Is there a way we can find out whether the motion blur can be disabled on Xbox for this game? Is there a way of asking the developers maybe? I played Horizon 4 on my Series X, but you can’t turn the motion blur off and this effect makes me nauseous, so I have to play it on PC instead.
I’d really like to be able to play Horizon 5 on console but the trailers so far have all had intense motion blur. Accessibility settings like this are becoming more common nowadays, almost all the PS exclusives I’ve been playing have it, so I’m hoping Playground don’t let me down again. It would be nice to know whether I can actually look forward to this game!
Motion blur is the worst, and it costs resources to do as well. Everybody hates it, and I’m convinced at this point the only reason why developers keep forcing it on consoles is because it can help hide frame rate dips sometimes.
I’ve played Forza Horizon 5 on the PC until now with motion blur off. All was fine. I finally managed to buy a shiny new Xbox Series X at a local store today and was looking forward to enjoy the game on the new console. Alas, the motion blur is so bad, I’m getting incredibly nauseous and can’t play it for more than a couple of minutes without getting sick. That said, I am rather sensitive to motion blur and there is only a handful of games with a motion blur implementation that is tolerable for me. Alas, Forza Horizon 5 isn’t one of them.
The effect is the worst in Quality mode but also bad enough in Performance mode.
It would be nice if we had an option to turn it off, like one can on the PC version, otherwise the game is unplayable for me on the Xbox, unfortunately.
By the way, no matter whether I turn the motion blur on PC to the “Short” or “Long” setting, it isn’t quite as bad as on the Xbox Series X. I’m playing on an LG CX OLED TV (with the latest firmware that allows for 120Hz Dolby Vision gameplay on the Xbox Series X) with the latest updates at 3840x2160@120Hz with VRR, by the way. HDR10 on the PC, Dolby Vision on the Xbox Series X.
Good luck with that one. In case you have never watched Digital Foundry’s videos on these games: motion blur is built in to game engine. It is the reason whyForza Horizon games look smoother at 30fps compared to other games at 30 with their own motion blur.
If you can’t stand it get newer console or switch to performance mode which btw still has motion blur.
Holy… wow that’s the most ignorant comment I’ve ever read. I assume you’ve never played on PC, because on PC it’s a simple toggle to turn motion blur off.
It isn’t ‘built into the game engine’ if it can be turned completely OFF on PC which it can, it’s the first thing I do in any game which has it.
(edit - just seen above post making the same point)
I feel sorry for the people who haven’t played Forza on a PC, they don’t know how much they are missing out on. This should be fixed but with these stubborn devs… yeah probably never will be.
Seriously, how is this NOT an option? It’s an ACCESSIBILITY ISSUE. Motion Blur causes nausea, and also makes it harder to see in general, let us disable it!
lol I missed this gem. Don’t be silly. Doesn’t matter how powerful it is anyway, if it’s forcing motion blur on people who don’t want it. Playing the console version is like having vaseline on the screen compared to the PC without motion blur.
It can, though I personally doubt it will ever be more than a gimmick this gen (or ever). We can already see that cube mapping is good enough in Forza unless you really pixel peep closely.
