Matte and Regular vinyls - Can they be mixed?

Hi everyone; first time poster here, so forgive me if this has been answered in another thread. I recently picked up Horizon 4 PC and I’ve started playing around with the paint booth, creating some designs for my “dream” stable of old skool racecars. A common theme I want to apply to each is matte “blackouts” on the top surfaces [tops of fenders and on some, trunklids] of each car.

How does one get matte finishes for vinyls, as it appears only “regular” finishes are available in the color palette in the paint booth for vinyls? Does the paint editor even allow for applying vinyls with different finishes [matte & regular “glossy”] to same surface of a car? I know that it’s possible to paint the hood of a vehicle in matte finishes from Special colors section in the paint booth; but how does one get a matching vinyl or paint on neighboring areas, like the cowl and tops of fenders [or trunk] without having to color the entire body? My goal is to contrast the blackouts with a gloss finish on the rest of the car(s).

I’ve started perusing the tutorial threads, but any advice or tips would be appreciated. Many thanks!

Unfortunately not. It’s been an ‘ever present’ on Forza Wish Lists though…

Dang. That certainly answers the question I had about the metallic finishes I want. Thanks for the Info MIDNYTE DUBH.

Also Reddsun1, nice job on your designs! Keep up the excellent work. Keep toying around in the Editor and you’ll only get better with time.

@Reddsun … just so you understand how this works … any vinyls applied to the cars inherit the finish of the base coat underneath them. So if you paint a matte base coat, any vinyls placed on top of the surface will also have a matte finish. Gloss on top of gloss. Chrome on top of chrome. And so forth.

Many thanks for the replies, guys! I’ll of course keep playing around in the paint booth. I’ve even been able to make a bit of fun of it, getting my son to give input on my paints, and designing his own race car.

Pixelated Vinyls - what can cause this?

Me again, as I did not wish to start a whole new thread for this question. What can cause a vinyl to look pixelated when adjusting in paint booth? I’ve gone back to do some tweaking on my first–and favorite–paint, on my XB Falcon. When I did some adjusting on the vinyls underneath the side windows, I noticed they ended up looking pixelated in the showroom and in-game.

Could this be from “stretching” my chosen vinyl shape too much? Would trying a different, larger vinyl shape and compressing to the desired angle and size produce smoother edges? Once again, many thanks in advance!

It’s just one of those things that kind of happens. It’s called layer shifting and it happens a lot when resizing or moving decals that you have made on the car itself. It’s rather annoying but you need to move the logo a little bit and it will go away.

Okay, will give it a try. Thank you!
