Need a help with a car for John’s March DLC Challenge? Look no further.
If you have a build or tune that is shared, feel free to post information here so others can find it easily.
If you’re in need of a build for one of the events, feel free to share and I’m sure there are racers out there who would love to help you and can pick it up.
As I do the events, I will share my builds and information here. Please use them, and please do many, many laps so I can earn some CR while we beat John.
Ridge Sprint - Beetle GRC '14 - S2: JOHN RIVALS - runs sub 2 minute times all day long. It’s currently sitting right around #70 and close to the 1:54 mark. It can still go faster though - SatNiteEduardo ran a low 1:53 and there is a GRC at 1:52. Good luck folks.
North Ridge Street Race - BMW 850 csi - B: JOHN RIVALS - Right now this car is at 100 with a time of 2:27.749 but I’m hoping to improve that a little bit. The car sounds nice and it may be “too luxurious” but it’s definitely no slouch.
Look for JOHN RIVALS 2 - it’s a no aero version, and much quicker. It’s sent out its fair share of Love Letters tonight and is definitely the fastest B-Class BMW on this course; (until someone faster gets in it) but it’ll still be the fastest BMW. Right now it’s #14 at 2:21.843.
Riverbed Cross Country - Desert Dingo Beetle - C: JOHN RIVALS - I’m not sure I am entirely happy with the gearing just yet, but the car drives well and is fairly easy to do so. Just ignore the fact that at times you’re banging the engine as fast as it will go Also don’t feel bad bumping into things - it will still have less dings than the real car. The build is the fastest beetle on the course.
Grande Sprint - Subaru STi '15 - A: STABLE - Some thought the car was too loose in the rear so I made a build and tune that ensures otherwise. It has the stock motor, it’s still AWD, and it’s stable and fairly good. It may not be the fastest Subaru on the leaderboard for the challenge, but it’s stable, easy to drive, and it will run around the 2 minute mark all day. One run landed it at 2:00.955. If I can’t put it in the top 15, look for a faster tune eventually. UPDATE: I tweaked the tune a little bit, and reshared. It’s sitting at #11 with a time of 1:56.618. Enjoy! There is 1 Subaru ('05) a tenth of a second faster on the leaderboard so that makes this the 2nd fastest Subaru but that doesn’t mean someone can’t take the spot.
Highway Sprint - Jaguar ''15 - A: JOHN RIVALS WIP - It’s a stable car, not too rear happy, and fairly neutral. I know I can still push some faster times out of this car but I may need to make improvements to the car, not only my racing line. Still, this combo here is good for a spot in the Top 100 if drive it well and take a couple unusual lines.
I’ve also made an AWD version of this car that is pretty darn zippy. The file name is JOHN AWD RIVAL and it’s a little heavy but it sure can scoot, right up into the 2:01.2 range and if I didn’t mess up the last corner, even quicker. The only thing with this car is to keep in mind the AWD induced understeer when braking and turning - especially if you cut through the trees on the last left hander of the course. Don’t bounce around the trees like I did.
—> This car does well on races where it can keep up he speed and stay in a higher gear. It also favors the more sweeping turns and things at a higher speed. It’s not bad in some of the shorter or slower races, but it’s not as strong of a car there. I did some of the circuits in Castelletto with it and chances are that against humans the car may not be quick enough or the races long enough to pull out a win. For these kinds of races, use the RWD version or a different car.
