Low Surround Sound Volume

Put this on the Support Page, but have no reply for 13 days so decided to post it here:

Audio plays though all the speakers, but the sides and rear speakers on a 7.1 setup are low (even when maxed out). This was not there with Apex, Horizon 3 and Motorsport 7. I have tried all the steps in the audio troubleshooting and this does not fix the issue. Sound comes out of the speakers, it is just really low. I know my speakers work and that it is an application issue as all other applications on the pc send sounds through the speakers at the same levels, just horizon 4 who has it very low.

When driving vehicles with a rear mounted engine, one can bearly here it, as the front left and right speakers drown it out (even when i amplified the rear speakers). The same is evident with the centre and side speakers which also gets drowned out even with amplification (which unbalances the setup).

Hey Everyone,

Still no news on my issue, sucks that it has been nearly a month and no acknoledgment of the issue

after carrying out some more investigations, i have found some more detail for the issue. It seams it is due to how the game mixes audio for multiple speaker setups. For example, when driving a mid/rear engined car with rear exhaust, on a 5.1 and 7.1 setup in cockpit view and driver view, the user can’t hear the engine or exhaust from the rear (it is very soft) yet you can hear the rocks being displaced or vehicles behind you, which are further away.

The same can be said with cars with front mounted engines, where now you hear the engines from the front speakers, but no exhaust again due to the placement of the “ingame microphone” and the leveling. when driving the same thing is seen, where there is no of very soft tyre noise in the rear, yet drit and rocks can be heard.

furthermore, one knows the sounds are there as when the user uses the chase camera, the same thing happens, but this time it is from behing the car (as the exhaust is not infront of the camera. Low rear and side audio, just like in cockpit/driver view).

finally, when we rotate the view 360 degree, one can see that the issue is caused byt the ingame audio channelling/mixining because, as the camera rotates, sound is lost when going to the side speakers or rear speakers (when looking back is in cockpit/driver and chase cameras, one can here the audio, engine, exhaust etc. from the front speakers, when looking to the side, again only the front ) this is i feel the issue lies within the games audio coding. as i have installed multiple drivers, tried all combinations and permutation of settings and driver combinations on my onboard audio solution (UAD and HDA drivers) and the same results. I hope this helps and that i can hear from the team on the issue.

This thread deserves more attention. The lack of speaker setup options in this game makes it equally bad for 2.1 sound system users. I feel that devs focus too much on headphone users, when it’s speakers that should receive priority.
