Lost game save after adding an external harddrive

I purchased an external hard drive as the 360 can now use one.
Having transferred my game saves to it and went to play Horizon only to find it started at the beginning.
No big deal I thought until I realised I had lost everything I had done or achieved including gifted and Unicorn cars and such.
Which I had not thought about till I went to the garage and it was bare. Also lost fast travel and treasure map.
O how I wish I had left well along.
Point is , Is there anything I can do to get any of this stuff back ??

Did you choose the right saving device? When I had my USB flash drive, it asked to choose between console memory and USB memory when after I pressed the “Start” button. Got the same thing now with my 320GB HDD. I always have to choose between HDD or console memory, gets annoying after a while. If that doesn’t help, then I’m afraid you lost your game saves.

I don’t get asked about the hard drive when I download anything ?
And Yes I did suggest external harddrive for the transfer.
What annoys me more is all the free and Unicorn cars I will never get back now
All my paints and tunes also.
Well all my paints and tunes are retrievable. Thats one blessing

I know it’s cheeky but would love to get the free cars in Forza 6 for having a garage full in Horizon

OK seems no one knows the answer to my original question so I will ask this one.
I had 271 cars on the original game save.
Now I’ve started over. Will my purchases add to that total or will I have to buy 271 cars again before it adds cars or am I stuck at the 271 total ???

You won’t - it is, at least, what I have noticed so far. Before I lost my gamesaves, I had almost 300 cars ; now, I have about 170, even though, when I check friends compare, it’s showing 536 cars. Forza is counting both of them, so I conclude Forza will count ALL the cars you had and will have in the future, without deleting the ones you don’t have anymore.

My info has updated on Horizon now, Just takes awhile. Be Patient and good luck.
Wish I had the game when the Unicorns were available.
