So I’m currently sharing a whole bunch of photos I took over the last few weeks and came across a strange problem.
After about 20 photos shared without problems, I had a set of pictures featuring the Ferrari F12TDF lined up.
The first 4 went through normally, however for some reason the last one is blocked by the language filter and deemed “inappropriate content”.
I don’t really get why though.
It’s the same car as in the other photos, it doesn’t have a livery (regular blue manufacturer color) and the only info I put into the sharing window are make, model and the keywords, no description.
The language filters are crazy, and sometimes include strings of numbers that supposedly mean something different if you’re 12 years old. It’s just my opinion, but I don’t think “455”, for example, should be blocked just because eyes that want to see a 3 letter word see a 3 letter word. It’s not a 3 letter word, it’s a 3 digit number that can refer to an engine.
I don’t know exactly why your photo is being blocked, but can you call it something else or describe it some other way?
F12TDF could look like **sted which is probably blocked so it’s doing it out of caution. But yeah it depends on the exact filename.
Any combination of letters and numbers is usually blocked. Which is stupid in a game about cars whose names are usually combinations of letters and numbers.
My wife made a paint and it wouldn’t let her share it because the name was “Surf Abstract”. It would let it share with either of those words, but no both together. Still haven’t figured that one out. lol
I’ve had this problem in 5,6 and FH3, I’ll leave the form in its default settings, including the Forza file name, it just seams to be some glitch with something on their end,
Thanks for your replies so far.
The file name of the blocked photo was just “F12 2”, which is funny since the other file names were almost the same (F12 1, F12 3a, etc), no idea why the “2” is so worrysome for the language filter…
Even stranger is that I renamed it to a file name that I was able to share previously. Still wouldn’t work.
I really don’t get it.
Well I had no problems sharing the other photos that began with F12.
Actually none of the other photos had any problems despite being a combination of letters and numbers in the file name (C7, R8, M2).
It really is just this one single photo making problems…
Total guess here, but maybe it thinks the F is supposed to be a P, the 1 an I, and the 2s are S’s? That’s really the only thing I can think that’s even remotely logical, but it’s a huge stretch for something to be censored, IMO.
Maybe. When I looked at the file name in question, I interpreted the F as itself, the 1 an I and the 2s being Z’s, but that would spell “FIZZ” and there’s no reason that should be censored.
The language filter is courtesy of XBox Live, not Turn 10 or Playground Games, and has been in place since the first Forza title. There is no understanding it, or explaining it, or reasoning with it, or pleading with it. It is what it is and everyone needs to find a way to work around it.
I have no problems with a language filter being in place, I just don’t understand why it arbitrarily blocks one single photo from being shared.
To summarize: The photo in question shows the Ferrari F12TDF and opponents at the start of a race.
The file name was “F12 2”.
I had already shared photos named “F12 1”, “F12 3”, “F12 3A”, “F12 4” and “F12 4A” without problems.
For every photo I share I only declare make, model and the keywords, no description.
I tried to rename the photo to a file name that I was able to share successfully before. Didn’t work.
I tried to select a different make and model, didn’t work either.
I tried renaming it to “Forza” as someone suggested, still didn’t work.
I’d love to find a way to work around the language filter if there was one, but I can’t see one.
The only thing I can imagine that is still blocking the photo from being shared is either that the file name “F12 2” was so bad that it was permanently flagged as non-sharable or that there is some algorithm in place that checks the image itself for inappropriate language and falsely found something in the dark shadows of it…
Which would be a shame as I really like this photo…
I know genius, it’s a stretch, but everything that language filter catches is a stretch. It’s like some pearl clutcher basically tried to censor the whole alphabet cos words have power! lol
Kids play a lot of games and they would never make the leaps of logic that filter does. So i’m not sure who it’s protecting. However i’ve seen some extremely offensive gamertags merely by being spelled backwards. I’ve also reported each and every one. That makes things better, language filter, not so much… lol
@Hieronymus, Which book? The good one or the bad one?
