Intermittent Freeze/Unfreeze

Aloha! I’d like to start by saying that thus far, I absolutely love this game. As it stands now, it runs beautifully! However, I have been encountering one particular issue consistently since I began play that occurs as follows.

Typically in any race, every 5-10 minutes I’ll encounter a random freeze which will cease after 4-8 seconds. The game runs extremely well, consistently above 60 frames @1080p, so I’m a bit stumped as to what could be causing this. There is no crashing associated with the issue, as it simply unfreezes after a brief pause, and everything goes back to normal. One can imagine how much of an issue this may be when taking the slalom turn(s) 3/4 @ Spa and suddenly BANG! Frozen.

My first guess was drivers, but I’ve moved to ATI’s latest, and have even gone the route of going to their Beta drivers, both to no avail. I’d suspect that a GPU heat issue/failure would result in a CTD/system crash (I’ve had this in the past, and ended up needing to RMA the GPU) but this doesn’t seem to be the case here. It may also be worth noting that the issues doesn’t occur during a replay of a race where the issue did in fact occur. A brief summary of the affected system follows.

Windows 10 x64
Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0
AMD 8350 Vishera
Twin Frozr 3 7970
32GB Viper III @ 1866MHz
OS is loaded onto a 500GB Samsung 850 Pro SS
Corsair RM850 PSU

So yea. If anyone has any ideas, or if this is something the devs would like to look further into as a potential bug, I’ll be glad to supply dxdiag, msinfo etc.

I can also supply footage of it occurring if necessary.

Cheers.

Buggy beta, anytime a thread needs work done it runs full speed with a high priority making all other threads stop responding so the game freezes.

Check out this thread for similar experiences.

The game was obviously highly optimised for the Xbox One and took advantage of it’s unified RAM, ESRAM etc. This has left PC’s struggling to keep up, along with a memory leak, stutters abound!

Ah roger that. I had read those threads and assumed that I was encountering a separate issue given that those folks seem to be having the issue very consistently and having it occur very frequently (in the above video for instance, the game looks hardly playable). I’m lucky in that I’ve had no issues with missing textures, and at best this occurs every 5-10 minutes of driving time. ie.) in a 25 minute, 10 lap race, it occurred twice. I suppose the frequency, or lack thereof in my case is likely due to having a more powerful system than the aforementioned. I’ve been running it on ultra with the game consistently at the v-sync 60fps which is what lead me to believe otherwise.

Still, I sort of figured it was a Beta kink, and it’d just be worked out in time. Will just keep playing and hope it works itself out post launch.

Cheers.

I run everything on ultra but people with similar systems to mine are having issues even running on low. That’s why they run beta’s in the first place to try and narrow down issues and their causes. All this will be forwarded to Playground Games so they can get ready for Forza Horizon 3’s launch this fall. But the syncing threads issue really needs sorting out sooner rather than later for many people. I get stuttering once the memory leak kicks in but up until that point it runs flawless. Which is why it’s a shame.
