Inability to play the "FH4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle" on PC

Hey, so I recently made this post on Reddit about a problem that I have been experiencing regarding the Microsoft Store and this seeming ability to “play anywhere”.

As I stated in the original post, I purchased a physical copy of Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Edition back in October, but for whatever reason the Microsoft Store says that I own a version of Forza Horizon 4 called the “Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle” or “Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle for Retail”. And as you can see, I am unable to download these versions of the game on my freshly built PC.

If you scroll through the comments, you will see that I am also able to download most of the DLC, however, (excluding the Car Pass and Storm Island), that my Xbox and Microsoft accounts are indeed linked, and that I do not own the base game as this seemingly special version of FH4 is a totally separate item.

Has anyone come across this before? Know of a fix? Or why Microsoft set this up in such a manner to allow this to happen in the first place?

  • Play Anywhere is solely for digital download editions. It does not apply to disc versions. If you own a disc version and not a digital version, you cannot play the game on PC. If you’re seeing Play Anywhere references on your disc case, make sure you read the fine print.

  • “Bundle” means DLC. Presumably the code you installed from your Ultimate disc version is being listed as the Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle (or you have it from purchasing that DLC separately) , but the bundle itself is DLC only, not a game version.

  • The fix you will need in order to play on PC is to purchase the Standard Edition of the game as a digital download or subscribe to Game Pass for PC. Once that’s installed you’ll should be able to play on PC and use the Ultimate DLC collection.

Well, it doesn’t say ‘Play Anywhere’ on your disc case, does it?
Comparing images on ebay and online it seems that microsoft is very clear and strict about what each version applies to.
