Hi all.
During this week’s Forzathon, players found out early on that the rewards for completing challenges were not working properly, and that the exclusive car which was offered as a reward was unavailable.
Once Turn 10 was aware of the issue they posted a tweet confirming that they’d investigate it, and later that day come to a conclusion that the car would not be available as originally planned:
Kudos to Turn 10 for the quick response on that on the day, and making it clear what players could and could not expect would happen.
That being said, it appears the message hadn’t gotten through to everyone, as the latest posts in this thread have indicated.
This got me thinking, why doesn’t Turn 10 use the in-game Message Center for such announcements, so that every single player (with an online connection) is made aware of the issue and won’t have any unfortunate surprises?
A tab exists in-game specifically for messages from Turn 10 / Playground, so surely it would make sense to post something there (image via Google):
We have seen in the past that Turn 10 has made use of this feature, as we all got notifications about the Forza Racing Championship broadcasts for example.
I won’t for a second assume that posting such messages are “easy” (their backend could be more complicated than we expect, or there are some non-tech reasons for the messages not being posted), but it does strike me as odd that Turn 10 has access to a platform that can make all 2,000,000+ players aware of any issues with the game, and doesn’t fully utilise the communication tool that has been developed. Not everyone visits the website, forums or social media, so putting such a message in a place where those affected can actually see it would make sense in my opinion.
