In-game chat muted - where is the option to turn it back on?

Hi folks,

I debated which forum to put this in, and chose Forza 5 because it’s the only thing I play, and so have no idea if this is game-specific or not. When I’m in an online race I can’t hear anyone. I know they’re making noise, because I see the mic turn green in the lobby, or see their tag come up on the left side of the screen during a race, but I never hear anything. Full disclosure: I don’t use the Kinect, and race with a wheel, so don’t use a headset either.

There have been times I’ve been able to hear party chat, but not in-game chat. Any advice on where to start looking? I’ve tried re-enabling in-game and menu music, but that doesn’t help. I’m not sure where else to look …

Thanks in advance,
Toni

Never mind - I found it … not totally obvious, but still.

Can you tell us where you found it? I’d love to disable the chat.

From the XB1 homescreen go to Settings, Privacy & Online Safety. Under the four Privacy options, mine was set to Custom, so I selected that, and then the third option is “Communicate with voice and text”. I changed it from Friends to Everybody, and could hear in-game chat.

After a few multiplayer races I set it back to Friends …
