IMSA-Tudor Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC) 2.0

The IMSA Tudor Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge Series (CTSCC):

Exhibition race date: 4 June 2017, 9pm (2100hrs) EST, USA.

A Forza 6 based race car series, loosely based on the real life (RL) race series of the same name is coming your way.

Do you like stock bodied race cars based on RL production coupes? If so this is the series for you.

CTSCC is the closest thing in spirit to the original Trans Am series in concept out there.

I know the Trans-Am racing series still exits, but in its current format, it lost some appeal to me.

Somewhere in the past, Trans Am changed.

Trans Am became dedicated race cars, with park-bench aero wings, and modified bodies, as seen here: 404 Page Not Found

CTSCC race series essentially uses actual production cars, stripped down, with mildly modified drivetrains.

It pits the best of 2-door coupes from America, Asia and Europe racing head to head, and door to door.

You will see two classes of cars on the track at the same time.

There will be 12 in each class (hopefully). So there will be a lot of interesting cars out there on track.

CTSCC GS class is similar to the old big bore class, and ST is small bore.

The CTSCC cars (obviously except for race livery) look like the performance cars parked in the parking lot, and driving down the highway.

Aston Martin Vantage, Camaro Z/28s, Mustangs GT-350Rs, BMW M3s, Porsches 997, Nissan 370Z,

Suburu WRX STi, and Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsports battle to the finish,

and at the same time, you also watch Mini Coopers, Honda Civics, Mazda Miatas, BMW M1s, and Audis kick each other around.

This series has an anticipated start date in the summer. Specific date to be determined.

I recently set and up ran a similar series in Forza 4. It was a lot of fun.

If interested, check this out: http://oppositelock.kinja.com/oppositelock-fourza-tudor-continental-tires-sports-car-1714833965

The series rules and principles would likely be similar to the set up used in the above Forza 4 series.

If you want to join this series, mention that below and we’ll send an invite on race day.

You can also send friend requests to my GTs: Robluvcars1 or EricIsDaywalker.

Come one, come all, first come, first join. All are welcome.

Race dates and time TBD. Stay tuned for updates.

As the series originator, I reserve the final say in which cars are allowed to compete, as I will need time to find and test the vehicle in the game, or a similar model.

I’d like to run the RC-F in GS class. What do you need me to do?

Hello, Made en Japan! Thanks for your interest in the series. For now, do nothing toward the build.

If you have not done it already, follow the link to the old Forza 4 series…you should become familiar with our strategy for how the league is set up.

Please stayed tuned to this posting, as I will be doing periodic updates.

I will have to conduct baseline testing on each available vehicle, so I can set appropriate build limitations to ensure all the cars are fairly competitive.

This will take a little time…

Rob

Anticipated start date: Sat, 16 July, EST/US. 4:30 pm, (1630 hrs)

Track Schedule:

Series season is anticipated to be only 8-10 races long, and races to be 25-30 minutes duration.

These are basically sprint races, as (the real series is for two and half hours) I am cognizant that

people have lives and have other things to do besides sit in front of their XBOX all weekend.

Get in, have fun, get your fix, and get ‘er done.

I will loosely follow the schedule for the 2015 season. Of course some tracks dont exist anymore…

The track locations, with the specific versions to be raced, will be provided before the season start.

The below dates and order of races are subject to change:

Sebring, 7/16/16

Infineon, 7/30/16

Road America, 8/13/16

Virginia International Raceway (VIR), 8/27/16

Maple Valley Raceway, 9/10/15

Daytona Raceway, 9/24/16

Indianapolis Raceway (reverse), 10/8/16

Road Atlanta, 10/29/16

Laguna Seca, 11/12/16

Watkins Glen, 12/3/16

May add versions of other tracks, if interested at the end of season.

Sound like fun. This is my favorite series for IRL, brought into the fold of Motorsport by ALMS, really grew fond of GT (GTLM) and with combination of grand am and alms got introduced to CTSCC and when I go to races - I make sure to see this. Like you said. This is real sports car racing.

I may want to go with scoobie. Compass 360 almost pulled off the win against z28 and stangs it was amazing. But may go with something else.

Look forward to seeing this develop as you do testing.

I’m interested as well! I’ll be following this thread as it builds up and more information is thrown out. Sounds like a lot of fun though!

This looks like an awesome competition and will be keeping my eye on it, at this moment I can compete in almost all of the rounds due to them being on a Sunday here in Australia (hopefully they don’t change or I will miss out in competing this awesome event). This is really the only championship currently that is perfectly set for someone living in the Australian timezone!

Thanks folks. Here is some more info about the series.

Of note, though I am lenient on using assists, I will encourage racers to use cockpit view.

After some very limited testing, I have determined GS class racers will have a S-class PI;

The combo of race tires, full race roll-bar and suspension, drivetrain, and weight reduction

puts these cars squarely in S-class!

For the same reasons as above, ST class racers will have a (B+ up to A)-class PI.

The initial upgrades in this series will be specific to each car to ensure competitiveness is equalized in the field as close as possible prior to individual tuning.

Please be aware that the upgrades for each car are required and non-negotiable.

NO FORZA Aero allowed except where specified. These cars are fast, and can be tricky handlers, so suspension tuning is paramount.

There will be no “Park Bench/Picnic Table” wings added as an ASSIST to ruin the beauty of the cars factory design.

Leave the wings and downforce to the open-wheel crowd.

Method: Lots of testing will be conducted with many variations for each car until the setups are as even as I can get them. The goal is to yield lap times within 1-2 seconds of each other, when I test them at the Grand Prix Circuit de Catalunya (I follow and use the braking assist line in the game. I tune the cars with NO ABS, but use the brakes like the car has ABS. Ex: I follow the yellow brake line, then squeeze and HOLD DOWN the trigger till the car slows down or locks tires while following the braking line apex through the corner). Of course you can tune your car as you see fit. This was just a note to anyone trying to understand the process of determining the specific race car builds.

The specific PI assigned to each car is based on the final build, which is determined by obtaining the same lap times, obtained by the same driver, obtained by testing on the same track. It is unlikely a car within a specific class will share identical PIs with another competitive make within the class. For example, in the Forza 4 series, the Continental Tires Sports Car GS class cars are at different PIs ranging from @S-620 to S-690; the Ford Mustang Boss 302 had a PI of S-637, whereas the 997 Porsche 911 had a PI of S-656, but they were within .5 seconds per lap.

Hi folks, more details.

In this series, as administrator, I set out specific build specifications for each car, using the above method in the previous post.

Then you tune it, and make the adjustments for your driving style. Also BOP will LIKELY be allowed to equalize the competition.

Balance-of-Performance (BOP) Adjustments

“The above mentioned upgrades are non-negotiable, depending on what kind of times you set, your car may feature more or less upgrades thanks to BOP adjustments. BOP adjustments will work same as they have in other Oppositelock series: A lap time is posted by me during the week prior to the race, and you take your GS/ST car out for about ten laps and see how you match the time posted; if you’re lapping faster than the time that is posted, remove some upgrades (starting with tire compound and width so you can still keep up on the straights) and if you’re slower, add some. The ultimate goal is to meet (but not exceed) the posted lap time. This will ensure maximum parity amongst the field. BOP adjustments should only be used as a last resort and are not a substitute for practice. I know the point of this series is to give everyone regardless of skill level a chance to win but it’s not fair to the drivers who put in the time to practice and to actually learn the track to have someone who spent less than ten minutes testing during the week show up and blow their doors off with a huge power handicap.”- SVTyler

SPORTSMANSHIP: All racers are required to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. We are here to have fun, therefore joking, and the friendly competitive ribbing associated with racing is OK. However, extensive profanity, name calling, fight words, and any behavior that that is inappropriate will cause you to be disqualified and banned from the series. (Unrelated. I once ran a Forza 4 drag race series; see the below link if interested in a drag series for a future series-http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst5…) This part is a deal breaker and non-negotiable. The current core group of racers are a knowledgeable, friendly, fun loving, competitive, group of racers. We have fun, we get along well, and we dont take this GAME too seriously. We like to win, but also realize that there is “next week.” There will be some inevitable contact between cars. If egregious, that contact usually will cause tempers to flair. If you dont feel like you can compete without exhibiting azzhat behavior (BMW drivers), do not come in and ruin everyones race with the childish tantrums. There is zero tolerance. Stay away. This is not “tool time,” and I will ban you from the series (just joking about Beemers).

“All participants are expected to follow proper racing etiquette and you’re going to have to be OK with the fact that contact will happen no matter how hard we all try to avoid it. Having the cars be as fair as they are means you’ll constantly be in traffic and battling for position and a bit of rubbing will be inevitable, as will more serious incidents. There will be races where you’ll get knocked off track or spun out by no fault of your own and you’ll end up finishing in the back of the pack that week; anyone who’s raced online will know that’s just a part of the game and these series will be no exception.”-SVTyler

  • That being said, there’s a very fine line between incidental contact (tapping someone’s rear bumper under braking, running a bit wide through corners, etc.) and aggressive and dangerous driving (divebombing corners, running people off the road, deliberate contact, etc.). Please don’t do any of that, drive smart and drive clean and you we’ll all have fun racing.

  • All relevant information (including pre-race, post-race, and other miscellaneous posts) will be posted at around 6pm EST here on Forzamotorsport.net; I hope to get my post-races up on Monday or Tuesday and have the pre-race post for the next round up around the same day the week after. Any other questions just post it on the thread here or reply to us directly and one of the braintrust will eventually get around to answering you.

  • Hopefully, we can get RoboRed or someone to stream races again via his Twitch account so even if you can’t race with us you can still watch the action. RoboRed also has the Vintage series, so be sure to check out his own sports car series too.

Race Info:

Please wear a mic/headset. That’s how we communicate in the race. Use it to minimize accidents when passing.

Time:

  • Since it seemed to work well last series, the lobby will open at 4:15 pm EST on SUNDAY(?) and races will begin no later than 4:30. Races will again last around 30 min-40min depending on what track we’re at that week. We will be in, out, and done.

Assists and Damage/Tuning:

  • Like last series, all assists are allowed, but should you to use them sparingly. You can take a lot of time off your lap just by learning to actually drive the car instead of relying on electronic help to guide you around track. You will find that the faster racers will have minimal if any assists.

  • Damage and fuel and tire wear will LIKELY be set to cosmetic. However, I am evaluating the simulation setting, as a Pit Stop will be required. Please avoid contact at all costs regardless.

  • Tuning is allowed and encouraged; we’d prefer you spend time tweaking your car instead of being lazy and just throwing BoP upgrades at it. Having said that, it is unlikely a Store Front tune can be built for this series; they are FROWNED upon and expressly forbidden.-SVTyler

Grid Ordering:

TBD. Last time we did the series there was RANDOM grid placement in each race. What do you think?

Scoring:

  • This will be a points-based championship series. PLEASE NOTE: Scoring is DIFFERENT from the other series. I used this in my F.A.P.S.D. drag race series, and it simply works best for me. It is like golf. The LOWEST score is given to the winner. Your score is the same as your final position in the race. Therefore the cumulative score along with number of races participated in, determines the championship. Scoring is as follows: 1 pt for 1st, 2 pts for 2nd, 3 pts for 3rd, 4 pts for 4th, and so on, with 16th receiving 16 pt. In the event we don’t have 16 racers we will score to the lowest position (e.g., 12 people so last place gets 12 pts). DNF’s will be counted as your final finishing position so if you get disconnected or have to leave suddenly you’ll still get some points just for showing up.

  • TBD. In the unlikely event that more than 24 people try to join a race, the lobby will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis and anyone who doesn’t make it in won’t be racing for points that week. Sorry but we don’t play favorites or save spots, so be on at exactly 4:15 pm EST when I send out invites.

I think a quick 2-lap qualifying should be used to determine the grid ordering. That way, the slower cars and drivers aren’t put up front, causing mayhem and a slow race.

I’m down to join in an Audi in the ST class if that’s ay-okay. I’ll have to buy a headset for the Xbox (darn them for not having standard 3.5 jacks!) but since there are several months until the race, I don’t think that will be an issue, especially since my birthday is the day before the opening weekend.

Thats not a bad idea, and I will consider it.

Great choice on the Audi.

However, in my experience, it will require more time and effort to do it that way, as it requires extra time to run a qualifyer before the main event. Then I have to review the results.

The biggest cause of race accidents that I have seen online, is the starting lap dive into the 1st corner.

It will likely also encourage more aggressive actions on the track, as you only have 2 laps to get a good time…and the 1st lap is on cold tires.

If everyone use The Mic, and practices discipline and respect for the other racers, it can be a non-issue.

Also may consider a 5 lap race on another night as a qualifier as a way to do it…

I do like the idea of a separate “mini-race”; I’d be okay with that. However, if you only have one 5-lap qualifying, I think there will be a whole lot of aggression. If that’s the case, you can just put the ones who cut corners/cause accidents in the back of the starting grid.
