IGN Updates, Map, Initial Drive video, and Previews

Overall, I just want to start by saying the IGN reveals for Forza Horizon 6 have been awesome in general. Yes, there are a few questionable choices that I’ll get into, but all in all it’s always great to see new gameplay, screenshots, and explanations of how the game works.

From what we’ve seen so far, the teams at Playground Games have done a fantastic job with the city, the different environments and biomes, and the overall level of detail around the map. Of course, most of us are genuinely excited that the series is finally going to Japan, and I do feel for Playground with the amount of pressure that’s on them from the community to deliver. That said, the majority of what I’m seeing so far is positive, so hats off to them.

Now for the concerns… sorry to dampen the mood a bit… haha.

1 – Customisation

Yes, I’m aware we’re apparently getting a deeper dive into customisation next week. My hopes are high, but I also feel like they might not quite deliver everything people are hoping for.

What I’d really like to see includes:

  • Better wheel fitment adjustments

  • Tyre writing available across all tyre types

  • More body kits across the car list

  • Better Forza aero

  • Interior colour tint options at a minimum

  • Window stickers / banners

  • Exhaust tip modification

  • Headlight and taillight tinting

  • Better paint and livery options, including material types (for example let me make my cars glossy red carbon or blue carbon)

  • More wheel options

  • Tyre wall / profile adjustments for all vehicles

  • More realistic bullbar and lightbar options for 4WDs

Customisation has always been one of the biggest parts of Horizon for me, so I’m hoping they push this further.

2 – Gameplay / Endgame

I’d really like to see more detail around the gameplay and endgame plans for this iteration of the series.

So far it’s great that they’ve shown:

  • Wristband progression

  • Exploration systems

  • Adjusting races once completed

But the big thing I want to know is whether we can create custom championships. If that’s possible, honestly that would be the cherry on top for me.

3 – Houses

This looks like an awesome feature. I love the idea of displaying cars at houses, and having 8 houses confirmed around the map is great.

The one thing I want to know is the display limit at each house.

Because if they limit it to something like 3–4 cars, similar to Forza Motorsport, I think that would be a massive missed opportunity for a feature with so much potential. Hoping to have a minimum of 6-10 cars per house on display

4 – Online Racing

I’m really hoping to see improvements to online racing.

Mainly:

  • Reducing or balancing the meta builds

  • More variety in event types

Not just race class and type, but things like:

  • Manufacturer-specific events

  • Vehicle categories (track monsters, classic racers, etc.)

More variety here would keep the online side fresh for much longer.

5 – UI

Personally I didn’t mind the UI in Forza Horizon 5, although it was a little visually busy.

The one thing I would really love to see added is better filtering options.

Let players create their own tags and filters, not just “favourites.” Especially when jumping into online races, it would make it much easier to quickly find the car you want.

We should be able to create custom tags and assign cars to them. At the end of the day this is Microsoft, and it honestly blows me away that this still isn’t a thing.

Overall

Overall I’m extremely excited, just like I’m sure most of you are.

The main thing is I just don’t want them to stuff this up — I want it to be amazing. And realistically it should be. By the time FH6 releases, it will have effectively been in development for about 4.5 years since FH5 launched, and that doesn’t even account for work that may have started before that. With roughly 200–300 developers working on Horizon itself, plus support from Turn 10 Studios, expectations are naturally pretty high.

Anyway, just my two cents. I’m not a developer — just a very keen and hopeful player.

On what day is the Deep Dive coming?

Yeah also valid. I guess i have never really understood this though because i just have spotify playing while i game anyways?

I do believe they have stated that generic forza aero is being replaced with vehicle specific designed wing/spoilers. So I would expect more ducktail type and bumper fins etc. I think that’s brilliant as the generic front and rear add ons were fairly abnoxious. To have a car competitive in S class it basically had to have aero and on many cars it just ruined the look entirely.

The IGN coverage is fine by me, they’re not getting too technical, we all know digital foundry are the guys to do a full graphics and tech review and that will come probably 4 weeks prior to release. The IGN information is drip feeding to us which honestly I think is the best method to reveal the game and its features. I don’t want to see the full game until release.

Yeah - very valid points. I would assume Playground games is aware also that this “customization deep dive” will be a very strong tell factor for a lot of the community. So heres hoping they smash it out of the park

Yes. I’m looking forward to it!

This was a missed opportunity to show at least one of the fixed car models, like the Silvia S15 or the Skyline R32. Instead we got a glimpse of more recycled Xbox 360 assets like these Advan RGII wheels that debuted in Motorsport 3 and are clearly dated because they look so much worse than the related RG-D2 (deep dish model of the same wheel). Better yet, I have made an inaccurate model report in the past regarding these exact wheels, and they didn’t do anything!

Man, they’re not giving Horizon Japan any justice whatsoever.

Ok, so… The new Forza aero looks a little decent and much better than the Xbox One aero, but it’s not as great as the Xbox 360 aero.

I haven’t even watched this latest one yet, but from what I’ve read, that they couldn’t be bothered to include customisation their nearest rival has - for a game in Japan of all places - is unfathomable.

I shouldn’t have said we were back during the showcase reveal trailer. And they’d have been better off staying silent for four months, because for me, these IGN videos have been a disaster and made me turned off of the game.

They spent too long talking about Forza Edition cars.

The highlight for me were the revised paint options and additional paint slots (parts that can be painted). I’ll hold off judgment on Forza Aero and body customizations, because I don’t think the 550+ cars at launch will all get overhauled body mod options.

…which they showed off on like the third least visible body part, that was terrible.

Unfortunate place to showcase the new paint option, but I’m glad it’s there. They mentioned a new carbon fiber paint, which I hope is light/pastel color friendly, but part of me thinks it’ll be another dark color variant (forged or different weave pattern).

I like that they redid the metal flake options, but I doubt they revamped the gloss (no flake) paints, so I don’t have my hopes up for those.

Can I finally put a name on my touring car windows?

Honestly - only thing to say is let down… yeah there were some nice improvements but overall they just fixed some things and yes Forza aero but that’s about it?

No taillight customisation, no exhaust tip modification, wheel / tyre fitment still looks a bit trash and no real improvement… nothing to change on the interior… and Jesus the garages? Absolutley looking amazing - but that space could hold 10+ cars and they give you 3 spots plus 1 for when you pull up in whatever car it is…

so they hired a cultural analyst to find out that koi fish and shrines are important to Japan, yet they completely ignored the very heart and soul of car culture in Japan

It seemed important for them to make us understand that they want peoples to expresses their creativity with the garage customizations but yet, express your creativity on the car you like is too much asking.

Then they told you they had fun on building these Forza Editions cars.

Well, these cars are probably not the one i want to drive, and even if it was, i want to custom it myself, not to end with a pre build.

Livery on windows and different tires are great features, but we were already aware about it, so nothing new.

I would have liked to be able to change the colour of the roll cage for example. I just hope they’re a bit more they haven’t showed

I really hope they actually take on this feedback… they probably wont. Would be good if they seen the feedback and added some improvements over the next 2 months:

  • Update garage spaces (could hold up to 10 cars not 3…..)
  • Exhaust tip modifications
  • Ability to apply forza aero in separated sections - either the canards and splitter with no tow hook for example
  • I like the wing they added… however why not have height, width, base adjustment or 2-3 different forza wing options?
  • Wheel / tire fitment looks slightly better - however track width could be far more aggressive…
  • Still no option for customizing tire profile on all vehicle types..
  • No tail light or headlight customization or tint options
  • Add interior color customization as a bare minimum (seat, dash and roll cage)
  • EXHAUST TIP MODIFICATION - i dont want to build 1000hp honda civic with a pee shooter as an exhaust pipe

They showed us majority of this can be done with the forza edition cars…. but only by them??
