Haha serious talk. I put a few very frustrating 50 lap sessions in at the very start of FM5 it was quite a process. Definatly not a natural track for me.
increase your front down force a little. it’ll keep your front wheels that you steer with better planted. and it might slow you down just a tad which is a good thing if you are consistently over shooting the same turn giving you a faster lap time. don said you can tune, its easier to tune the car to the way you drive than it is to override your instincts and drive to the way the car is tuned. still the mini? another tactic might be to start slow and increase your speed by about 1mph per lap giving your subconscious time to adapt, adjust, learn, etc… you are going to be much faster once you let your subconscious take over. let me guess? the turn you keep messing up is the left after the corkscrew? its because its on a down slope to start minimizing your cars weight making the front tires not grip as good. you need more front aero or to slow down until you get to the uphill half of that turn then get on the gas harder. and calm down. you are going to be at your best when you are relaxed.
if the game is stressing you out and making you unhappy maybe its time to get rid of the xbox. if the dogs are uncomfortable its probably making the gf uncomfortable too. if shes the one shes worth giving up the xbox for. i only continue doing something that stressful if i’m getting a paycheck for it. real money not virtual credits. the point of the xbox is to cause fun not stress. if you find stress fun get a crappy job that pays good because nobody else wants it, maybe pumping septic tanks or something.
I have a few controller dents in the side of my head too. Like most people have said, slow down and go with the car rather than trying to push it.
Sometimes turning off the HUD can help as well. It stops the random number gazing rather than focussing on what you’re doing, and also gets rid of that ‘oooh look at the splits’ rush of blood and anxiety that has ruined the last sector of many a lap. Takes the adrenaline away at bit as well, but hey, you can’t have everything.
The original poster speaks to this matter as if it were an issue. To me, this is all part of the challenge and the gift that Forza presents when it comes to playability. If you are a racer or a hot lapping enthusiast, the amount of time spent in the Rivals feature is everlasting. Obviously, for others the game is a matter of complete and move on; but, for those between Forza titles, we racing fanatics get to test our abilities which create so many riveting moments and thrilling memories of failures and successes. Keep up the practice and your efforts will pay off.
Light as a feather, Mick. Just giving my two cents on how great Forza is in the aspect that it tends to punish when we try too hard and rewards when persistence is followed by honing our driving strategies.
steady and smooth, it happens to the best of us, i was doing a rival the other day did 10 laps pitted (new tires) 10 laps pitted (new tires) then when i beat it i was like 3sec faster and was like YEAH TAKE THAT MOFO!!
Private chat someone while you are racing. I find that over-thinking the lap removes your concentration. I personally learn the best speed for a corner and try to memorize it. If I am doing that, and trying really hard to visualize the speed as a number in my head, and then concentrating on the speedo, I lose it. I find that having a conversation with someone to break my concentration, and focusing on the conversation, that I tend to do much better.
My main issue with the 360 vs ONE, is that I can no longer stream music from my PC or Zune while I am playing the game. This single missing ability makes actually racing in this game, vs Forza 4, feel more like a job or a chore, and less fun due to no tunage… no distractions from the fact that I am driving around in circles for no apparent reason.
Hopefully Microsoft can figure out something to get MP3 streaming going again… Ditching the Zune App was the dumbest thing I have seen MS do in a VERY long time… it almost equals dropping the FAT file system.
when I was hotlapping it took me about 10 laps to run a flying clean lap. I know its annoying getting dirty laps but its the same for everybody, 75% of it is just time.
I would say you’re over trying. It will come to you and once you do it once your mind will like flick a switch and you’ll be able to do it every single lap afterwards!
Crav is right, when that switch flicks it’s like some kind of epiphany! I always used to struggle with turns 7-8 on Catalunya, either cutting the left kerb too much into the turns, or going wide and out over the gravel on the right hand kerb. Then one day I nailed the turn and since then it’s perfect time after time. I must have run hundreds of laps over the course of a few weeks before I got that one right.
Keep persisting and eventually it will all fall into place. One thing that was mentioned above, watching your speedo trying to get the right speed in every turn can be counter productive. I find once I have really learned the track for a particular car I go faster when I turn the hud off as there are no distractions.
That’s a great idea with the HUD. Never gave that any thought. I did mention I was half Polish right
I get distracted by all kinds of stuff on the HUD. Its a never ending battle for me to not look at the stupid splits. Yet, I look all the time and they distract me like crazy, especially when they are green.
Don’t know why, but I chose to let laguna go for a while. Sometimes when I get in a rut, It seems to help if I forget about it entirely then come back to it another day.
I was hot lapping my favorite track (Alps Festival) this morning in C class and really made some nice improvement on my times. I had to end it, but took a quick a look at the leaderboard before shutting down. I’m exactly .02 seconds behind GRD 4 3L. I know exactly how to make that up too. Later today you’re going down my friend Seriously, I will be honored to move ahead of you on the leaderboard…
For those that asked, no it wasn’t the Mini. I need to drive some other cars or else I’m going to end up driving everything like a Mini and I notice a difference. I’ve been running a 190E a lot lately. Mostly in C class, but I use it in B too. It wasn’t one turn either. It seemed like it was a different turn every lap. That’s why I said its just lack of focus on my part.
Try dividing the track up into manageable sections. That’s what I do or I get overwhelmed and lose focus. I spend the first 3-4 laps driving conservative to learn the car and set a base clean lap.
On a track like Alps festival (since you mentioned it) I divide the track in unequal quarters based on my weak spots. From start until the left hand corner that goes downhill is section 1. Section 2 is going downhill until the tunnel since I struggle there. Section three is from tunnel until the last turn since I’m confident there and section 4 is the final turn until the finish line since there are a bunch of fast lines to try and see what works. I’m also known for choking there so I place extra emphasis on it.
I take 30-40 minutes to complete a track which is long, but this method keeps me focused on the task at hand. I have a difficult time staying focused and paying attention to my inputs so maybe a piecemeal approach to hotlapping may work for you?
You get block the same at most activiites that are learn actions. Look at the golfers and tennis players who have crashed and burned when they should have easily won. The pressure on the final 6 holes gets to them and they end up swinging a club like a noob. I imagine its the same for a hot lap if you let it get to you.
Your experience for what it is worth is EXACTLY like mine. However, while I get frustrated I am one of those people that seeks improvement. I enjoy this process because it is well outside of my comfort zone and normal area of expertise. I am more about long range precision rifle shooting, ensuring my company that provides risk and information services to companies in odd and often ugly parts of the world so sitting down to get good at a driving game is something I wouldn’t have dreamed off doing 5 yrs ago.
In fact to be honest I looked down on folks who did it and now I envy those of you (nearly everyone) that is much better at it in all aspects.
My point is you are frustrated because it matters to you, you are striving to be better and if it didn’t bother you you’d not be good at it and you’d not be doing it in the first place.
Your frustration just means you want to be better at it and in life that is a good thing if you apply it to everything.
