As I’m made clear elsewhere, I think the Car XP idea is a horrible system. However, I’ve always been intrigued by how it works. It’s an odd situation that T10 doesn’t put points next to the level bar. It’s almost like it makes little difference what you do, although the game gives the impression that you can get points quickly by driving well.
I thought I’d have a quick test as I’ve always been unclear how the 10XP points for an overtake is awarded. Here’s two screenshots. The first I’ve started 12th and overtaken 11 cars, so gained 110 XP. The second I didn’t overtake anyone at all. Can anyone spot the difference:
Looks to me that the car leveling bar is same at the same track location even though the Acura time is 34 secs slower, and that overtaking not adding to the car leveling.
Do whatever you want guys, most important parameter influencing carXP is …driving time, and only driving time :-(…
No matter track length and design, sector time perf, overtaking qty…all those “feature” are only kind of placebo to make you think your carXP are justified and deserved thru your in-game action …
At the end, no matter which way you choose…time being glued to your screen will anyway be main key for car point leveling !..
Another lie to only hide an unfair trick used to artificially increase game length…
That was my conclusion. I think overtaking makes no difference at all. I completed the races thereafter, driving properly in one and ensuring that I got 1.0 in every section of the other. This did make a bit of difference over the two laps:
However, even here the difference is relatively negligible, bearing in mind the difference in driving. The vast majority of the bar is just completed based on driving distance, rather than (as the game suggests) getting perfect/good sectors. It explains why, when I levelled up 10 cars to Level 5, 9 reached Level 5 at exactly the same point and the other one checkpoint different.
i’ve mentioned this in multiple threads, because you need so much xp to hit 50 (something like 250k) and you get about 1000 per mile you drive, getting 10 per pass or 50 for a great segment isnt going to make much of a difference.
i like this system, and i don’t even upgrade my cars so its basically pointless the way i am playing, but i lik eit anyway. one thing i have noticed though is with stock vehicles the higher the class the more xp you need, its most noticable if you race a few laps with E class than do the same number of laps on the asme course with P class,
I used Lime Rock for testing because it’s easy to get consistent 50cxp at every sector.
For an A-class car I needed 72 laps of consistent 50cxp to level from level 1 to 25.
Letting the AI drive the car with rubberbanded ~30% throttle input it scored some 25cxp sectors and some without. It took 86 laps.
The difference is there but it’s not much. Simply driving is the main part which makes sense given the awful system is the only game play loop the game has.
On top of it the driving line doesn’t matter. If the car is good enough for the system to underrate it it’ll be easy to score 10s with bad driving lines. The system seems to only measure the time needed to run the sector.
