How do I make my photos look more realistic?

the top photo is stock while the bottom photo was edited by Google photos (if I’m not mistaken ) and also on Reddit I see people share their Forza Horizon 5 photos and they look ultra realistic and also how are these photos from my previous post I’ve been taking y’all’s advice on taking photos further away from my car so how is it since then?

This will help.

Ok thanks I’ll try it out later and I took a screen shot of it for me to easily remember it

Overall there are 3 key elements that make a picture look more realistic, and those are: Composition, Lighting and Editing (when it comes to external apps instead of the in-game editing settings).

Composition: it’s basically how you position, angle and frame your in-game camera, in this area the best way to improve is to look at other real life car photos to be inspired. Usually, the car is much closer or bigger on the image, but that mainly depends on what is your vision

Lighting: Another quite simple element, its how the sunlight (or Other sources of light) impact your image, this will depend again on your vision of it and where are you in the map, a quick suggestion I could give is that you must not take a picture at noon, as that’s when the sun is at its highest point and can make it feel like the lighting is flat. (Fh5’s photomode let’s you switch to different times of days and weather settings, so make sure to try a few combinations)

Editing: This may be more complex and harder to learn due to its learning curve, technical difficulty and its accessibility, however it’s not “needed” for great images, as I’m in the belief that, whilst a bad photo with great editing may be serviceable or good, a great photo with bad editing may be better and put you on a better position.

As I have said previously, there isn’t a single answer for a lot of these, and the same applies for editing, maybe a realistic look might gave you darker images with less colors or vibrant places with a balance of colors that are fitted to said place, for these individual situations you may want to look up tutorials and attempting different things. Another thing I can add to the editing topic is that, while Google photos can be good to an extent, there are better free options on your phone like VSCO and Lightroom Mobile (the latter being the standard for a lot of fh5 virtual photographers)

So basically there’s not a wrong or bad methods of taking photos in the Forza Series as a whole then? Also I just want to prepare myself for Forza Horizon 6 but another reason is that on Reddit some people’s photos of Forza Horizon 5 look like it’s in real life or close to it but your answer does give me a huge sense of relief and also I do have VSCO on my phone so there’s that

While there isn’t an objective way on making your images realistic, there are a few patterns that seem to help out in some ways to that style, like the desaturation of certain tones, an increase on the highlights of the cars, a small usage on texture and clarity, aswell as in-game things like a medium to high aperture when you are far away from the car (and you are zoomed in) or a low aperture when you are closer to the car/subject, a proper usage on the zoom and attitude of the camera and so on
