I think he was refering that ‘barriers’ are part of track limits having unpredicted behaviour and that’s annoying if you want to score good times . I’d say FH2 is the worst in that sense.
Sea of Thieves was basically the same. “Everyone’s friends”, so there was no competition in the game.
Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if PG got told to make the multiplayer this way by the same guys at Microsoft who told Rare to release Sea of Thieves without a competitive element.
Interestingly enough, Sea of Thieves sold well and has a dedicated fanbase, however small it is!
I’ve been a part of these forums since early 10’s, I have yet to see your club or anything of it, also, shouldn’t you know that you don’t create a new thread for a topic that already has a dozen other threads? You know what’s repetitive? This post.
You and your buddy need to get that “I CoNsIdEr MySeLf A kNoWn ComPeTiTiVe DriVeR” attitude out of here.
Joining posts is a concern of forum’s admin. And if it’s necessary to open Turn 10’s eyes to the awful thing they have done to the game there will always be a post related to it. I’m always against arrogant people even when it comes from great players, but if you don’t know FRF you certainly don’t play Rivals mode in a competitive way.
Ooh this is a juicy one, let’s see what’s in that first post.
I too feel the “lore” has run its course. At this point it’s merely an excuse to let you do whatever you like in terms of running events.
I’m not sure how important the lore would be in a racing game like this anyway, but if there was some sort of story I’d like to see a future title try out something similar to the original Forza Horizon, where you have characters who challenge and taunt you, and it’s your goal to evolve to beat them.
As it stands the narrative structure of Forza Horizon 4 is built on emergent gameplay experiences and while this has its benefits it’s not the type of thing that somebody who desires a traditional storyline would go for.
Refrain from calling things “cancer”; it’s immature.
The avatar customisation is a neat little curiosity and probably appeals to a newer generation of players. Those of us who focus on racing however probably don’t pay much attention to it but this is a game that’s attempting to cater to everybody so I don’t see much harm in it.
What would you suggest be given out as Wheelspin rewards instead?
There’s a limited amount of things that can be done and I don’t think the decision makers want to remove them as they can be seen as a good recurring engagement tool for a lot of players.
You have the freedom to race however you like as you can choose your own seasons for Blueprints and private Team Adventure.
Consider Horizon life as the “hub” that allows you to get from A to B, however with Fast Travel and good menu navigation you don’t need to experience the open world at all.
The goal is to “do whatever you want”.
I agree that the map gets cluttered however. Filters are nice but they reset every time you start the game.
If you race in Custom Routes all of the Horizon barriers are gone. Roadside environments are something you’ll just have to drive around.
Fortunately they’re more destructible than in previous titles so even if your momentum decreases you won’t come to a complete stop.
Don’t buy them then.
Once you’re turned off Caps Lock can you succinctly point out what “made Horizon good in the first place”?
These games evolve over time and in an attempt to increase the playerbase some new things get added and others get retired.
No single player is expected to do “everything”. Pick the bits you like and focus on those.
It’s hard to balance a game’s economy when some people play for 50+ hours a week and others can only manage 50 minutes due to life/work/family.
If you’re a hardcore player you’ll eventually get to a point where you have so much Cr. that everything may as well be “free”. At that point you can ignore the progression system and treat the game as a sandbox.
They’re a neat curiosity and provide a nice choice of backdrops but other than unlocking Perks there’s not much reason to purchase them.
I think that may be down to a number of factors but one that stands out to me is a simple UI design choice.
The notification number is green. If it was red it would stand out and more people may be inclined to act on it, thus helping to bring race requests to peoples’ attention.
In game development nothing is really a “quick fix”. A minor change in one area could break something in a different part of the game and thus checks and balances need to be fdone before a change is enacted.
This isn’t goood, and one of the reasons my team doesn’t bother with Ranked right now.
I’ve noticed some slow manu navigation at times too; not enough to make the game “unplayable” but it can be noticeable.
Drive to Event was replaced with Freeroam Rush, thus making it competitive.
Horizon Life is essentially Online Freeroam from previous titles, which didn’t have “drive to event” either.
A ghost lobby would be good for those that want it, yes.
Don’t text and drive
I use and enjoy the feature quite a bit, but it’s hard to pick a phrase when I’m in the heat of battle.
There is a skill to environmental navigation but I do agree that in ranked it warps the metagame in favour of offroad cars. I wouldn’t take a Track Toy into Ranked unless it was converted to AWD and had Offroad Suspension installed.
I have a feeling they wanted to phase out Rivals entirely (since “serious play should be done in Motorsport”) and this was the first step before it vanishes in a future title.
What would you suggest?
I suspect for a subset of players the Leaderboard climb is enough of an incentive, but with the negative racing experience right now I don’t think that’s enough of a carrot to chase.
I too would like a non-Team Online Adventure but I have a feeling that individual performance is not something the decision makers want to promote with this game; that much is clear when you look at how other parts of the online experience are structured.
An automated system is tough to implement (even Motorsport struggles with this) and I have a feeling that Horizon titles aren’t “meant” to be taken seriously so i don’t think this is one of their design priorities.
Can we hold you to that? Check in with you in 2-3 years’ time and see if you’re buying Forza Horizon 5?
God I hope not…because some of us think that rivals/hotlapping is fun. “Serious play”…what has this world come to, lol.
That being said the rivals in FH4 is a joke and I can see how they would say in the next title “The player count in rivals was so low we felt the need to eliminate it.” since they set it up to be seriously limited right out of the gate. I mean why would I want to run one type of car or single homologation at any given layout? Just takes away a great change of pace option from the game.
I would just add my opinion. Even when I agree on some of the problems the thread opener has… on many of his points I’m on the opposite side of a fence. The thread title is meant as a fact, but it’s a single opinion. I absolutely love FH4. It’s a great game for me. Great map, great feeling to drive, great immersion, seasons are absolutely fantastic. Love the avatar customization. The use of avatars should go even further. Why no Custom painted T-Shirts? Yeah, it’s a racing or driving game. But like real racing, it’s centered around the driver, not the cars. We can discuss the overly “funny” emotes, the excessive use of glitter and pink, but… I like it.
Yeah sure, I’m only that 14-year-old kid… but like thousands of other likeminded kids, I’m trapped in that old body of a grown man. Wheelspins are fun. If you want to own a specific car, just don’t try to wheelspin it. Just earn money through races and buy it. Wheelspins are extra.
I would love to see an upgrade in rivals like FH3, because currently, they are too specific and I don’t like doing all of the combinations that are offered. I would prefer my favorite track in my favorite car.
Multiplayer team adventure is a mess in my opinions. There are a lot of things devs should do about it. Still don’t like the attitude and shape you have chosen to throw out your view.
Game has its problems.
Game is far from perfect.
Loving the game, while hoping that they will improve it to make it even better.
I played FH3 for 2 years after work to unwind and blow off steam, I don’t compete in serious racing - I just like to socialize and have fun in free roam with other people and drift drag etc
On weekends my wife and I did championships together so it was all good - if you can include your wife your OK to play as much as you want.
This game is more like work now, I log in, have to check my auctions, collect the money, farm some more skill points, collect wheel spins to win some more cars to sell, save all my money and then buy a frigging house for 15,000,000 - then another and another and another…
Now I have a real estate portfolio worth 30mil, I own a business that I have to attend and drive frigging cars I HATE just to make a living. THIS IS NOT UNWINDING AFTER WORK _ IT IS MORE WORK !!
To top it off there is no championships for my wife & I to do, so now she is not involved and she sees me as a slob on the couch and my time is limited each night - I get enough time to do the forza chores and that’s it - the Xbox gets turned off.
I guess the hardcore gamer or serious wannabe racer is not happy with whats happened to their world and assume its all aimed at the casual driver - don’t worry we have been screwed too!
No free roam to socialize - just an online pool of ghosts - yawns
No championships? seriously?
Whats with the level rating? I can watch mixer and get 10 stars? - some people do like to earn a level and be proud of their level as it means something due to hours of driving - not anymore!
Clothes and chicken suits? In a car game ? - Imagine how many more car options we could have had instead of clothes !!!
Houses you cant enter or sell and lag if you stay there to work on anything - also if you want to paint a car at home you cant see colors properly outside if it is overcast. POINTLESS
Seasonal championships great idea - IF WE COULD BLUEPRINT THEM TO USE CARS WE LIKE !
This was marketed as a car game right?
On a positive note there is no traffic in drift zones - unfortunately there is no people either so you have to enjoy it ALONE !
Another positive note the map looks good as do the graphics - very gloomy in town but accurate, wish my xbox one could keep up considering it is sold for the platform.
I did add the positive notes above so I am not 100% against the game (just 99%)
Sarcasm below
Can I suggest for FH5 we drop cars all together and any sort of competition and just focus 100% on Gardening and fixing your houses and give us the ability to buy and sell homes and rent them out.
Keep the clothing and business aspect because that’s the best part of it and put casinos everywhere so we can choose the machine to blow our credits on rather than just the 2 options for gambling away our life. We will also need some sort of re-hab for those who fail …
@pjtierney and gtodaddy73 - I could see them removing rivals but why? What harm is there including it? I know things change but I would not understand it being removed fully.
