Bug Info: Hide&Seek, pinging hider failing for no apparent reason
Platform: none of those listed, I’m on Xbox One
Edition: Deluxe (whatever the top one was)
Account: my account and my purchase, not on my home Xbox but whatever
PC GPU: n/a
Peripheral: Xbox controller
Settings: accessibility default, hud/gameplay mostly default, video default brightness, motion blur long
Xbox Settings: shouldn’t be parental controls (I’m Gen X), not from quick resume
Attempted fixes: none, really, other than playing again it’s hard to see
Content Update: do not recall
the following videos were in the same game (!!) of hide and seek
I have another video and I’ll try and remember to record other events
this one is completely crazy

I can confirm this behavior.
I had a lot of similar occasions when nothings happens despite the distance is definitely below 50 meters.
This happpens analogly with the Chasebreaker as well.

Does it really happens with chasebreaker too? Haven’t noticed. Chasebreaker isn’t blocked by trees or other unbreakable objects. But chasebreaker has a shorter range than ping. Maybe that’s why you thought it happens with chasebreaker too?
I played several hundreds of Hide & Seek games and yes - it happens with Chasebreaker, too.

Saw all your videos - and I unluckily do not have one from my incident yesterday evening:
In Playa Azul I spotted the Hider parking next to a building. So I drove right behind him without touching him. He was not moving as I was not moving. Then I Pinged while us both were standing still behind each other - my Ping was wasted but no Hider detection. I could not believe it. So I waited right behind him. I think he was not even noticing me!
The Detection Bar was filling up while I stood firm directly behind him.
After some time somebody else Pinged him from farer away and that was when he was indicated as the Hider on the map.
Sorry that I do not have video but this is exactly what happened.

completely believable, unfortunately, I had a few more but can’t be bothered to upload videos - I really doubt anything is going to happen about it

Again I fully agree with you! I really wonder what is misprogrammed and causing this issue.
We are reporting all the bugs - and there is a Gazillion of them in FH5 - and they are celebrating themselves for the very few (mostly unimportant) issues they solve with each new season.
Ridiculous!
With FH6 we then are nicely asked to report the copied over issues again. Exactly like it happened from FH4 to FH5.
