Bit new to the forza drift scene
Not a total newb, but still green
Current situation- my AE86, can’t seem to decide on a proper drift tune. Ran a series of power, and low power attempts. Have a solid S669 set up that seems to be ok. But really been trying to create a high A class drifter using my AE86
I managed to build an A570 AE86 that seemed to fit my style and was still fully capable on longer bends like the Mugello first turn or the Maple Valley first turn. Many people say high HP and such really provides the power for those longer bends. But isn’t it truly the power to weight ratio that helps that? And if so, many of you know an 86 is very light which could mean I can run a lower power. I saw a drift tune calc on here and was planning on using that set up as a baseline
I guess ultimately my problem is I want to understand a better way to tune up this 86 while still being a sub S class and still be able to complete many of the longer turns. But if it is almost impossible to do so without the HP, I’ll gladly ramp the power back up. Any help is appreciated.
I’m just looking for small help here and there gentlemen. Not some big tutorial on the dos and donts of drifting
As I think you are trying to say, you need to find a well-rounded amount of horsepower for certain tracks. For me personally I wouldn’t run the 86 on maple valley, maybe the '89 Z/28 with the stock ZR-1 motor, but the AE86 is a very capable car none the less. The car is well rounded at about 300-320hp on tracks such as iberian mini and Tsukuba Short for tandeming and just a bit more for the longer tracks (still for tandeming). For points though, just max out the car and research into setting up the car for points, like -5 camber on front and rear and +5 toe on front and rear (that the most commonly used camber setup for points). For me the only thing that I vary for points is the gears and the dampening depending on the track. If you wanna mix the two together, attempt to run around 400-450hp and use a tandem tune. This should help you get around the longer tracks but be mindful. The 86 doesn’t pack a lot of power and it doesn’t matter about the power-to-weight ratio for points. Power, distance of the drift and angle is key for points.
Hope this helps decide where you want to go with your 86.
