Hey, how are we all? Just curious at the moment I’m just using the cheap Microsoft headset and an edifier 5.1 surround sound, I was wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on headset audio quality compared to surround sound in thinking of buy the turtle beach elite 800x but I don’t want to fork out $450 aud just to find out forza sounds better on a stereo. Any advice from someone who’s preferably used both would be greatly appreciated!
You get what you pay for but a great headset is plenty for most people.
A 5.1 or 7.1 sound system will cost a lot more than a great set of headphones if it needs to sound better than headphones.
If you have neighbors or family around maybe headsets are necessary.
If you also watch Blu-ray or 4k movies AND you have extra cash to spend, a good 5.1 or higher system (up to 11.2 with Dolby Atmos but I doubt Forza has that level of audio) can be much better than headphones. You also need the space to place the speakers, look up Dolby/DTS speaker placement. I have a 7.2 system.

I have a tiny house so the 5.1 I’ve got is perfect there’s no way I could fit the 7.2 as much as I’d love to. And yeah I mostly play after my parter is asleep so it would be pretty hard to justify making it louder which is really one of the best parts of the game I love the sound of the cars screeching around the corners and hammering along the straights so I think I might go with a surround sound headset it’ll be much easier to justify as a win win I can play loud and my partner doesn’t wake up thinking a car just smashed through the house hahahah
