I took the liberty to investigate this errorcode that alot of people have with FM7, here is what i was able to find so far.

This thread is not for windows store download issues/xbox issues/crash at sign-in/splash screen/press enter to start.
This is pure for the random crashes people get while racing and in the main menu’s.

In some cases the game simply crashes because of a memoryleak bug, this happens when you do alot of cosmetic stuff in the menu’s of the game.

Before trying any of these steps, as always, i recommend backing up your windows and important data.

Error Details :

Along with the crashdumps and xml-reports i found this line

That D3DError happens with overclocked cards, even factory overclocked ones. and some other causes like hardware-issues, overheating etc. in my case i used ASUS GPU Tweak II on OC-setting, after 1 hour of racing i crashed.
Also The GPU crash may be related to microsoft’s Timeout Detection & Recovery(TDR) feature. you know the famous “Display driver amd/nvidia stopped responding and has recovered”.

What i found on the Unreal Engine Forums.

Additional notes :
Also found a “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\TdrWatch\TDR_RECOVERY” registry key and
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\DCI\Timeout” registry key (Not sure what they do)

Make sure your PC-BIOS settings are not overclocked in any way.

How to disable Nvidia GPU Overclocking :
Simple, go to Nvidia Control panel - at the top select “help” - enable “debug mode”, that’s it (make sure you closed all other overclocking tools).

How to disable AMD GPU Overclocking :
Open Radeon Settings - Gaming - Global Settings/Global Overdrive(Wattman) tab - Reset and Global Overdrive should be disabled
Open Radeon Settings - Gaming - Select Game - Select Profile Overdrive(Wattman) tab - select “reset”

Wattman Removal Method :
Uninstall your AMD Driver, all of it, through DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). Then reinstall and untick every option in Custom Installation. ONLY Tick Display Adapter and HDMI Audio.

Powersettings :
Turn off “Game Mode” - “Game DVR” - “Game Bar” in Windows Game Settings.
In Windows Control Panel - Power Options - High Performance Plan
In Nvidia Control Panel - Power Management Mode - Prefer Maximum Performance
AMD Crimson Settings -

  • Compatibility Mode/Power Efficiency off in your radeon settings,
  • Preferences - Radeon Additional Settings - left side various poweroptions
  • Frame Rate Target Control?
  • Radeon Chill Software?

There are probably alot more options to try, like disabling anti-virus/anti-malware packages, screensaver, disabling tasks in task scheduler or basically anything running in the background that might interfere with the game.

Yeah, they could. But it’s either trying workarounds / possible fixes for now, or wait for a patch / update of FM7, pick your poison.

Didn’t mean to sound like a dick I appreciate you putting this info together. Will wait and see if there is a day one patch tonight before I start messing in my registry.

No problem, i hope they come up reasonably fast with a patch too.

I’ve found my game to be stable after giving the folder where Forza 7 is installed in Full Control.

So navigate to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ and add/modify the group “everyone” and give that “full control” (make sure to apply on all subfolders and files)

Also I have disabled realtime protection from my antivirus (windows defender in my case)

If you ask me it’s more to do with Microsoft crossplay. Same thing happening with me on Gears of War 4 game is crashing with 50% GPU load.

I think with Gears 4, it’s just not well-optimized with Ryzen. It’s actually a really well done port.

But it’s not just on the Ryzen systems. I’ve got posts in gears forums and nvidia and I’ve also read forums in the EVGA forums both intel and Ryzen builds are having the same issues. Hell I even had to give nvidia support a link to their on forum about it.

really? I cant even OC my GPU?

What kind of game it is.
rocking a 1080 now, I maybe not the one needed to OC the most, but I always OC my stuff, from day one.

Keep in mind that none of the tips do actually work “conclusively” and the attempt to figure out exactly what causes the crashes is just guesswork. So while all those changes might have a effect, there are no actual reports/test that we can duplicate or even compare to get a somewhat definitive answer to why FM7 is crashing this often. I followed all the tips and notice no difference in how often FM7 crashes.

Can we get this game to work being a forza gamer I think its terrible from fm7 and Microsoft and the PC!

Forza Horizon 3 same problem… It’s global problem from Microsoft & Windows Store games.

Is it really that bad on Forza Horizon 3 ? I mean for F7 you can’t even view the car store or customize your car without crashing.

As of today the crashing is still persistent and after spending a good chunk of my evening fixing other Teredo related issues I’m about done with this already. Microsoft has become lazy af even with the updates considering how massive they are (yes I know that 4k texture files do take up a good chunk of space). You’d think with a major brand like Forza that they’d have more dedicated support for the port considering they want to keep adding games here and there to the “Xbox Play Anywhere” list.

I bought this game recently and the problem still persists.

It’s really discomforting to know that you’re being hustled every opportunity there is by big corporations.

Only thing you can do as a consumer is to remember this next time you buy any product from this company and it’s affiliates.

Has this 0xc0000005 error been officially fix by the Forza team?
