new to the game and i love it. ive been having fun racing around and i think its time to try to take it to the next level. i dont know if there is a good forgiving no assist car or something people recommend. any help or advise will be appreciated ty cold critt.
It depends what class, generally the leaderboard cars are the easiest e.g C class Honda S2000 or Mazda Miata, B class Merc 190e or WRX 05, A Ferrari F50 or a 360 CS, these are all better handling cars for there classes. Id say make sure you have a decent amount of handling at first but once you get to grips you can start toying with more powerful cars with less handling.
Some of the LB cars can be easy to drive, that much is true. But a few with a proper leader board tune can be absolute pains to drive, and absolutely not for the beginner at forza in a lot of cases. Using a slower car is far better to start with, as learning the tracks proper lines, and how the cars behave is far more important. A slower car allows you to work more on car control, is fast enough not to be totally boring, but slow enough to actually learn the tracks in the process.
Op, my advice would be to pick a car from D class; the AE86 is fairly easy to drive stock without any assists. It has a good balance too it, and if you want to practice counter steering (for those times the back end may break loose), its also fun to throw around on the fully open airfield via the tuning menu (no time limit, only other way to access it is in Tag mode).
Agreed - just stick to a C or B class car with lots of grip speed is not of the essence when learning to shift. TIP - be sure to change your button configuration so you can clutch and shift with the same thumb at the same time. Also change your dead zones if you havent already
Choose a lower class car that you currently are able to hit apexes and move around the track with confidence. This is important so you can feel the difference with the changes you’re making. Do not choose some random car you never drive.
Change your clutch to the A button. Press AX at the same time to downshift. Press AB at the time to upshift. No need to heel/toe, just mash 'em quickly at the same time and let go.
Adjust your accel/decel deadzone to 0-100 or 5-95 via the My Profile → Controller → X for Advanced Settings. This will allow you maximum use of the trigger for brake/throttle control. When braking get into the habit of gently pressing the trigger and slowly increasing pressure.
Head to a track that you enjoy driving and put in the laps. Lap, lap, lap. It will come to you.
Feeling frustrated? Perhaps learn manual w/ clutch first and then remove ABS. I started with ABS and Automatic and took them off one by one.
Good luck.
thanks for the info cbj. Merc 190 e class it is.
Try to hit up a good D class or C class car to start. I learned on a C class car and have not looked back.
BMW M1: Great car!
If you’re new to the manual with clutch setup, I recommend sticking with something grippy in a lower class, like a Mitsubishi Evo or Subaru WRX. Pick any track and run a few laps. You’ll get the hang of it and eventually it will become second nature.
Also, I don’t know about your button setup, but I like to use A as my clutch and shift with B and X. There are a couple other options, I recommend experimenting and finding what works best for you.
Good luck! No assists and manual w/clutch is the way to go, in my opinion.
Evo and scoobys have to be shifted right to be fast. There are to drive though. Like swere said '97 civic is easy
Mini Cooper with a good tune. I use TG Takumi’s. Mini Cooper is so smooth it feels like you are running with assists even when you aren’t.
97 civic and s2000 are easy mode cars that will also keep you competitive. Just download a tune from a good driver and you will be set.
Anything except for the XBow or the Atom.
