Game is Stunning BUT....those jerky shadows [Mod redacted - D]

Love the game, love the graphics, love the handling, love the community, BUT the only thing that ruins it for me, is the jerkey shadows, surely they can smooth them out. Other games seem to manage it… Am I wrong?

Ive been waiting for graphics like this since I was a kid (50 now lol) when the original Bat n Ball (activision tennis) came out. Then we had atari Tanks. Then came first 3d games like Battlezone and Elite and Revs and stunt car racer. Then half realistic graphics like doom and unreal tournament. Then Amiga stuff like zennon and flood and speedball and cannon fodder. Then the flightisims and my first PC., at 286. Then need for speed porsche challenge and counterstrike. and the big RPGs, and battlefield.

Now im playing stuff like AC Odessy and the sea is superb, using a 1070 i7 16gb, supercomputer specs really. An VR is mainstream. We are on verge of having flying cars (thanks uber).

So please please fix jerkey shadows and some how smooth them out or add more steps. Not alot to ask

Peace XXX

I’m not much younger than you and I know EXACTLY what you mean. It feels like my entire life I’ve been waiting for each next gen, hoping it will finally get the graphics to that real truly immersive level, but each generation never seems to quite move things on like I’d hoped. But I really do feel like we are getting very very close now. I also know what you mean about those shadows, and agree - they are totally immersion breaking.

I would love to see this too. It would be sweet if they can solve this, at least in future titles.

The reason it looks like it does is probably because of the game being developed primarily for the Xbox One X. There, spreading out rendering of the shadow buffer over a few seconds frees up a substantial amount of power for other tasks.

But on a PC, limiting it the same way even at the highest settings is unnecessary since a high performance system could transform and render the shadow buffer at much higher speeds.

As far as soft shadows go… that shouldn’t be impossible on PCs either.

Do you only notice it when sitting still?

I notice it particularly bad when I’m going 180+ cross country, and especially bad when I hit that giant hill from the East side heading west and land about on the blacktop a 1/4 mile away. When I’m up way high in the air, I can’t seem to find an angle downward that allows me to see my shadow, cause that’s really all I care about at that point in time, what with the realism of height and length of distance I’m travelling in the air, it just ruins the immersion.

Yeah only notice it when stopped and admiring the view. I play alot of modern games and only FH4 has the jerky shadows. Would be nice to have the option to make it smoother depending on hardware capability. XXX

The XBox one S has worse problem than the shadows, the background disappears when the car goes faster than 230mph. Should be called Fuzzy Horizon 4… lol.

But the shadows don’t bother me.
