I purchased a copy of the game from my local Walmart store on the day of release. From that day I was beginning to have issues with the disc, it was taking forever to load and sometimes having trouble reading the game. Then a few days ago, the game would not load at all, the console kept telling me to “insert disc” and would no longer read my copy of Horizon 2. I contacted Microsoft customer support for help and they had me delete the install, reinstall, delete persistent memory, clear alternate mac address. At this point it did appear to be able to read the disc again. I played it for a few hours and took out the disc to play Destiny. I went and exchanged the copy at my store for a new one, and the exact same thing happened. For some reason, both of the discs appeared to look different than any others I own, they have an oily look to them, maybe this is the issue? I have no problem playing any other games, why just this game, why both discs I have tried? Maybe my local store got a bad batch somehow… it is Walmart…!? Help me out, I want to keep playing the game! Also, how do I go about contacting support, Xbox support told me to do that and maybe I can return my game and get a digital copy from the developers?
Below is an image is my copy of Horizon 2 (left) compared to Destiny(right).
The bluray drive in xbox one consoles is the new red ring issue. What happens is they start making loud grinding noises if you insert a disc, sometimes they do very little. Gradually they fail to read discs and eventually will never realise there is a disc in the tray.
For some reason this issue does seem to favour or not favour certain discs first.
Try the disc in another console if possible. Try a dvd.
take the paper out of the plastic case. it should have the info printed on the back to acquire a replacement disk. the game just came out, it has to still be under warenty.
For God’s sake, if the flipping disc has an oily substance on the back, use some sort of mild cleaner to get it off, then try again. What sense is there in putting a “dirty” disc back in to the drive OVER and OVER and OVER again?
Grab a decent microfiber towel…one that’s soft, not a cleaning one you find at your local Orange or Blue Hardware store, spritz a small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol on it, wipe clean, gently. DO NOT SCRUB.
A few passes should take the grease from where ever it came from off.
Mine started doing this about 4 weeks ago. Got it the day it came out. It’s a pain that it won’t work the first time I put in the disc, but I take it out and put it back in and it fires up.
