So I finally installed the game after 4 hours. And when I went to play it. It got itself stuck at 0% sync before crashing. I open the game again and then it gets stuck on the “Loading… Please Wait” screen for 20 minutes before crashing. For some reason the game just keeps breaking trying to get past the menu screen. Note I am running it on the Xbox App (Windows 11)
It crashes on me when im looking for a new livery for a new car everytime.
As im scrolling the liveries, itll stutter, then scroll again, stutter then crash and back to the xbox dashboard.
Its actually done it multiple times in one go, it can take me a few gos to scroll down all the liveries available.
Ive also sometimes crashes while im downloading a new livery too.
Occasionally itll crash when im designing a livery too.
Main problem is that it crashes every time I try to get passed the main menu. Whether it crashes immediately or 20 minutes into loading
I was reading the update 17 patch notes & it looks like they have fixed both problems.
So fingers crossed
Edit 2:
The issue has returned and Forza Horizon 4 can only be started immediately after rebooting the PC.
Edit 1:
I was able to workaround the issue by uninstalling all local DLC licenses (except for the expansions) by following the instructions in this support article:
The game still makes a brief pause for a few seconds when loading, but now at least it does load instead of stalling indefinitely. It has not however fixed the underlying cause, which seems to be a problem with retrieving the content licenses for certain apps.
Why the above solution has not mentioned by all the MVP bots anywhere they’ve responded around the web beats me.
Original post:
Now it’s happened to me on a brand new system. FH4 ran fine for a month, now it suddenly freezes at the “loading, please wait” screen. Twice it was able to start up after rebooting the system, but now even that is impossible. It still plays on my old PC.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it has to do with the most recent Windows 11 update as MS has a habit of breaking their own software.
What’s annoying is that I’ve already gone through all the normal troubleshooting steps to no avail. Most of the tips online are some MVP bot posting boilerplate nonsense. There are no hints to find out what is actually going on with the app, to monitor its interaction with the rest of the system and see where it fails. There’s not even anything in the Event Log to help determine the issue.
The only remaining solution seems to be completely wipe the system to get rid of the errant files, but that’s like throwing out all one’s furniture and refurnishing the home from scratch because a light bulb has gone out. And even then you don’t know if it will even work because the fault might resurface.
It’s not an acceptable solution. Redownloading and reinstalling several TB of software right after I just finished doing that on my brand new PC? No thanks.
Update to the above post:
I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps Forza Support have provided and they have not resolved the issue. I have also done a repair install of Windows 11 and in addition to the issue remaining, now Forza Horizon 3 and 4 report that the graphics card is unsupported.
It is apparent that Microsoft seems to consider Forza Horizon 3 and 4 obsolete and have no intent of keeping them playable on current PC hardware. ![]()
