Forza Motorsport 7 was still in active development at the beginning of 2019, with substantial updates being rolled. However, in March 2019’s Forza Monthly, Dan Greenawalt announced that “we’re gonna shift our weight towards the next project, we’re still in the concept phase, and we want to involve the community”, which basically meant FM7 was nearing the end of its support.
Note Dan’s paraphrased words here (or watch the latter part of the video if you’re interested). What would eventually become FM was still in the concept phase. Concept is basically brainstorming, you don’t really have anything to show yet, as you’re still deciding which direction to take the project. He said this in 2019, which means that maybe something existed when it came to FM before that, but very little indeed, as the majority of the team was still fully committed to updating FM7.
It’s still 4 and a half years, give or take, which is a long time in development, but the whole “6 years” is being spread around by laymen who assume the next game always starts development immediately after the current one. It’s usually the case, but not always, as you can see here.
On top of that, Dan mentioned the community would be “more involved” in development this time. Well, it did… in a very secretive way. Few had access to the closed betas. The openness Dan promised never happened. It’s possible it was because of issues in development, but I prefer to believe it was just the usual corporate speak from Microsoft’s trusted employees.
I am glad that more and more people are pointing it
its become a fake news at this point, there has various and various videos and news that shows that the game at earliest had its development halfway 2020, likely devlopment starting around that july 2020 trailer
I would say that pre-production could well went into 2020, maybe it started as soon the post-covid reorganization of offices in MS had finshed
A thing that i am sure is that the 2020 first trailer was a clear “come work with us” type of trailer, but we wont known in detail about when pre-production had finshed until someone in production talks officially about it.
Otherwise we can use it as a good timeline of what happened in the last few years
Frankly, it doesn’t matter because the finished product doesn’t feel like an appropriate result of either timeframe. You might as well be arguing over who told the captain of the Titanic about the iceberg first.
I think it depends how you count “development”, but honestly it doesn’t matter. It could be ten years, it could be three months, I’m not buying development time, I’m buying a finished product.
Or, in this case, I’m clearly buying something else.
I wonder what’s been happening behind the scenes for the last 4 years. The product we ended up with feels like it was slapped together in a year with the number of bugs and simple mistakes, and the lack of the most basic QOL features.
Also the state of the campaign-- how much time and effort does it really take to make a tour? It’s not like they have some grand story with cutscenes and voiceovers. It’s baffling that with double the dev time of any previous game we get the lowest amount of SP content ever, and by a wide margin.
There were many falsehoods told to us,and they have already doubled down on them and the “gaming press” game them 2 awards … so far,for their efforts.I was tricked as well as many of you guys/gals were too,by the marketing campaign they ever so carefully created.I’m already on the hunt for a used PS5/GT7 package to purchase.I was looking for something the same as FM7 but new and improved and was tricked by the marketing into thinking that FM8 would fill those shoes,it doesn’t imo.My 3090 can’t make it look as good as FM7(from 2017)Maybe GT7 will fill that void,it looks very good, and I really like the menu system with the world map…very creative stuff.Selling off my XboxSeries-X and changing to PS5(just for gt7) I still play ALL my other games on PC.I’ve also dropped gamepass.I don’t like being tricked…
The design time does not matter because for the one who wants to criticize he will always find an excuse to do so without taking anything into consideration
Yeah I’ve owned AMS2 since EA,it’s pretty sweet now. With FM8 I was looking to play Prague and Rio,Bernese alps and all the weird tracks with the ‘made from the ground up engine’ and shiny new graphics. We all know how that panned out.AMS2 is one of my serious sims for ‘real’ racing moods…
I wont flag your post like you do with mine, because that is not my level. But please dont hurt my feelings with such comparisons where thousands died only to show your grumpiness with a computer game. That is emberassing and not proportionate in any form. Thank you.
In the end it seams pretty clear that something happened over the development of the game, either large number of experienced developers were pulled to work on other projects, or higher ups struck down on the direction game was going.
It’s hard for me to believe that T10 suddenly forgot how to make games.
Because if you put all the design ideas of the game on the side, all of things people may be subjective about, and only look at the game objectively, it’s simple. Game doesn’t work. So many game breaking bugs are still present, even for people on XBOX, it’s ridiculous. 2 months in!
It’s clear that us all that congregate here are very passionate about Forza… FH5 and Motorsport are pretty much only games I play… And all I see is downfall…
FH is always taking one step forward, two backwards, Motorsport was doing that since FM4… Only now they have taken roadtrip backwards…
Game simply looks like it was slapped together in a year at most.
It seams like I play it because I want it to be good, to come back, but with T10 attitude that’s not happening…
I sure hope so,but I will likely have uninstalled by then and moved on to GT7,this game is a barren shell of it’s former glory.I will just go back to FM7 for my Forza fix,and go full into GT7 on console…yuck
I think FM is great and a wonderful game. And they built it brand spanking new from the ground up. IT’S ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS!
Now, there, I did my part. How do I get on the payroll system with the OP and all the others blowing smoke up T10’s ??? Can I get a new PS5 for my payment?
Well I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, only had a little over a week to play GT7 before going back to work and already no lifed 145hrs into it lol. Love the passionate car culture that oozes from that game like it was back in the FM4 days for Forza.
I’m not 100% abandoning FM but I’ll be AFK driving for FOMO stuff until this game gets the features and fixes it deserves. Maybe some testing on Watkins every blue moon but that’ll be all. The better game is my main for right now.
