Forza Motorsport - Motorsport Simulator? Far from it

They promote the game as a Motorsport Simulator, but its clearly not this.

Flawed and broken penalty system
No visible damage bar some “paint scratches” even if you smack a brick wall at 180mph.
Class Specific rated Multiplayer that doesn’t actually uphold the restrictions

Player Reporting requiring scanning of QR codes, making it a tedious exercise.

Pit feature, which is redundant as its never needed in career mode, and barely used online.

The game is broken, and not as advertised.

It simply is, a newbie friendly, heavily flawed and broken game, with some nice base visuals.

I like the game for what it is, but it isnt what they say it is. And considering how long its been since the last Forza Motorsport game, ITs shocking how “rushed” and “bare-boned” it feels.

What they NEED to do is.

Fix the broken PENALTY system so it actually penalises players who are actively being a nuisance, and stop giving stupid penalties to drivers who are the victim in an incident.

Give the players some proper damage, at the VERY LEAST, have a windscreen smash, or a bumper, wing, sideskirts fall off, smash some headlights, lose a wheel… Smashing a wall at 180mph and only leaving some minor paint scratches is pathetic, i want to feel like my poor decisions in a corner have some visible damage.

Fix the clearly broken aand currently abused Class Rating system for featured Multiplayer.

Fix the Replay system so people can save and view replays with friends or online games

Allow drivers to adjust the speed of window wipers in the rain, because the current way it works is shocking.

Allow Driveatar AI to feature in Private Multiplayer to flesh out the field.

Fix the Replay system that doesnt work - which is hilarious considering the lengths you need to go to to report griefers and unsporting players ect…

The game honestly feels like a Demo as it stands. Unfinished, bugged and not as advertised.

No one promoted it as a sim. Simcade.

turn on full damage and hit the wall at 180. yes, the game will let you drive back to the pits at a very slow pace but game isn’t going to leave you stranded on track. same thing with running out of fuel on track, the game will let you creep back around to the pits in 1st gear.

The pit feature is used for the medium-long online races

Fully agree. The game is a demo, I am not even excited about upcoming bug fixes, that’s like cleaning up Trash from a Desert.

Sounds a bit harsh, but sadly, there’s lot of truth in there.

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like this game has no real identity. On one hand they’ve put only “real” racing tracks in the game…on the other the whole GTR roster is poor at best with outdated cars. As for real racing liveries we have to rely on tbh awsome artists to deliver. What again is strange as TC and GT are they only one permanent hoppers in mp. I don’t know how much of it is that AC Competizione is official GTR product and ofc some licensing problems but I would imagine they could’ve make it work if they really wanted to.

They could have added the division Modern GT into Spec Series by making their own homologation. About licensing, even though ACC has SRO license, all other sims are adding GT2, GT3, GT4 cars not as soon as they launch but 6 months to 2 years in. The newest GT3 car in FM 2023 is 2020? Is that not when FM7 was removed from store…

Forza was always a simcade and it won’t change any time soon

It will probably never change because GT is its main competitor not Assetto Corsa or Automobilista e.g.

You look at the billing of this game as the “most technically advanced”. Yet there are parts of the game that are not even up to the standards set by FH5 and FM7.

FM7 you can view your car when adding wheels or spoiler.
FM8 you can’t

FH5 you can scroll wrap in the vinyls selection area when putting vinyls together for your car
FM8 you can’t

Simple little things like this that should have at the very least been carried over into the new game. Or in a game billed as the most advanced they should have been made better than the older games. Not steps backwards.

Nobody said is was a simulator. Ever…

The game has believable and consistent physics and car handling. But that is all. Thanks God for that.
I have iRacing and ACC when I want to play a sim.

I’ve done A/B testing between FM7 and FM8. The “believable and consistent” physics of FM8 are identical to FM7. Running a same car on a same track and there is absolutely zero difference between the two games. Except some tracks look better on FM7 and some look better on FM8.

@leetorts , if you do a Google search for Forza Motorsport as a Sim, you will find several sources directly calling the game a Sim.

And with all the negative publicity on all the internet, T10 continues to rave about their great achievements with the game. Their statement directly from the Turn 10 website says it all, “This is by far the most realistic console racer ever made, and it’s hands down the best racing game on xbox.” But they do pull up short of calling the game a sim.

But the point is, several in the industry, outside of T10, do refer to Motorsport as a Sim.

Even that dude Rossi that is in forzas school videos calls it a sim xD

I would personally call it a high end arcade game with a tendency towards sim abilities if you are willing to adjust your game play style and strategy. An Arcsim.

Forza Motorsports has never been a sim.

Never.

Ask any ACC, iRacing, or driver with real life experience.

Your opinion is invalidated if you haven’t had any real life experience to compare to because how the hell do you know what a simulation is then? =P

Now, ignoring the obvious stuff I just pointed out above, the game is absolutely marketed as a sim considering it has MOTORSPORTS in it’s title. But every Forza game has had very poor FFB. My experience with a sim rig is restricted to the CSW2.5 and Podium DD1 but it doesn’t matter what I’ve used. Compared to real life, this game behaves like it was not playtested by real drivers at all.

If we ignore the fact that using simulation gear results in a very poor reflection of real life, and instead focus on controller usage…well, then it’s a 8/10 or something. And this is where the majority of players are because only a very few (they’re all on iRacing and ACC anyway) are going to blow $1000+ USD on a sim rig.

And that’s okay =)

Not sure if you’re Smackin me down there, or trying to agree with my post. Or even referring to my posts at all. I personally never called it a sim. As for real life experiences, I know what I’ve done in real life but you don’t. So don’t go there blindly. Maybe inquire first. Then you will be better qualified to go forward.

I know a lot of gamers with zero motorsport experience irl try talking about what is a sim and what isn’t…with zero irl track experience on even GoKarts. This includes journalists and marketters.

This is how it is related to your post. Even if marketers or whatever call it a sim, anyone with real experience can make a far more accurate judgment for themselves. This game is not a sim.

But hey, if you wanna talk about real life stuff: 2008 GSXR750, 2008 335i, 2008 GT-R for track experience. Tracks I’ve done irl include Laguna Seca, Mosport, VIR, and Calabogie. There are other tracks but they aren’t known.

Most of it was done on the GSXR750 because I don’t own the other two…just have some very nice friends. There’s a 1000 HP Civic in there somewhere that I could not control very well too and did not want to risk launching it off track and causing thousands in damages lol. I’m also not very fast irl, mid pack yellow (average of average.)
