Forza Motorsport hangs on a black screen when launching

When I try launching the game (Steam version) it will hang on a black screen after the intro headlights and Xbox logo. My mouse will still move, I get no audio and I need to go to Task Manager to shut down the game. I have been able to launch it successfully only a few times. When I do the game will also hang trying to quit and I need to sign out from Windows in order close it.
Solutions tried:
Correct region selected in Windows
Updating graphics driver
Windows on the machine has been recently reinstalled
Closing as many 3rd party programs as possible
Running repair on Steam
Clearing Xbox Live credentials

after each change/update to your pc, restart your pc using “restart”
never do shutdown + turn on, it would NOT cycle the system properly
that said, make sure to exhaust windows updates, with a restart each time new things popped up
this should take care of the .NET framework that is required for many things (sometimes needs a couple of update/restart cycles to get it all)

I always instal this from Microsoft: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe (visual C++ 2015-2022 x64)
IMO optional: this is the x32 version: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
steam often instals things like these, but I prefer to do manual + official source, and less 2nd guessing
(restart pc)

if its still not going, you could try an directX instal https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35 (restart)

if still? clear the game’s shader cache(because many changes happened)
follow exact instructions: https://youtu.be/MDcvc43yzG0?t=57 (controlpanel+disable+restart+clearFolders+cleanDX+controlPanel+set10or100gb+restart)

Comtrya! \o/

Yes I have turned off “Fast Restart” in Windows so it will restart completely.

“fast restart” is not a thing, restart always does full cycle
the “fast startup” is a “shutdown” function that hibernates/sleeps/parks elements of your session
hope/assume you avoid “shutdown” when making changes/troubleshooting/updating

Oh I meant “Fast Startup”. In any case doing a restart doesn’t fix the problem.

you have seen the other instructions? visual c++? directx? and clear cache?

Hi, I’ve had the same problem but on Xbox series X I’ve restarted the console and the game multiple times. It is still not working.

This is on PC

These are all installed:
C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86) 14.40.33810
C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) 14.40.33810
Microsoft .NET Runtime - 6.0.61030

on console it should just work, since all hardware and software is the same(ish) for all console users
if it was a common problem, you would see tons of people comlaining about it
try to find what is unique in your case, system update? full drive? corrupt game?(re-instal game?) stable connection?

if you have also done the clean shader cache, and set it to 10gb(to be sure)
and exhausted windows updates

do you have any programs running for security like virus scanners?
or any programs that could affect network conntections?
if so: try playing around with them, temp disabling is the easyest to check
if that gives you some conclusion, there are usually ways to add exeptions within those programs

maybe also: try only a LAN cable(then restart), or atleast not having 2 connections(play around with that if it changes anything)

No other programs running, just using Windows Defender for AV

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I’ve got a stable internet connection and I’ve been playing fine up until Monday of this week.

I tried reinstalling these but no luck. Forza Support has been unable to help either.

New here, but try End Task on XBox App, then start game, the next screen after the black is connecting to Xbox or Microsoft account. Mine did not work till I manually closed the XBox App on the PC. Most likely a bug on xbox app.

To be clear mine was titled
“Xbox Game Bar” it was a widget.

Yes this bug is all over the internet for PC user mostly us with Xbox accounts versus steam.

Hope you can enjoy the game, I’m having a blast now with my steering and clutch setup. I was very frustrated having laid down 100 for a broke game.

This video has some good suggestions. In my case I think it was setting the application to run as Admin that finally did the trick

I was troubleshooting for hours, I did that too compatibility mode and right click run as administrator method. Neither worked in my case. It seems like it hung up when it wanted to connect to the servers this happens. Hope they fix it because the reviews on game store front is reflecting this issue for many many PC players.
