Forza is still not a serious racing simulation. The courses are well realized, the cars and the driving characteristics are ok, but the AI is unfortunately the crux of this game.
The behavior of the AI is simply atrocious. Especially shortly after the start, it’s still jostling and shoving like in an arcade racer. No adaptive or situational abilities. The AI still brakes on straight stretches or at acceleration points. As before, the AI pushes the player off the racing line and does not act in a fully responsive manner when trying to overtake.
As long as nothing changes in the behavior of the AI, Forza will never come close to other racing sims.
@Helsing1971 , Forza isn’t a “serious” racing sim. It’s a moderate cross between an arcade racer and a simcade. A little more sim than the NFS and TC2 games, but just not yet a simcade.
It would be nice if they could ramp it up to a full simcade. But I personally don’t want it to go full sim. But this version isn’t going to get to full simcade. Possibly the next version, “if” the developers will really really really listen to the player base and start implementing more of the suggestions.
The developers also need to take a more positive approach to quality and pride of workmanship in the game.
@Helsing1971 , part of the problem of forza and the failure of simcade is in the ability to upgrade cars. Take forza aero for example, arcade games like NFS offer more “pro” aero options than forza. Some versions of older NFS even allowed for the rear spoiler to be custom adjustable for size. Forza community has been asking for changes to the forza race aero for several generations of the game. And nothing has been changed or added.
Currently, forza aero is now at the number two highest voted item for changes in the shub. It would sure be nice if someone would let us know if there were any changes coming in the future. We know there are people from forza support who have some presence here on the forum. And there is a community manager who should have an ear to the studio and be able to at least tell us is they are or aren’t doing anything. If they aren’t doing anything, it would at least be nice to know if forza aero is one of those “working as intended, we’re not changing it” things.
Anyway, here’s the link to the suggestion if anyone hasn’t voted yet. Please go vote and make sure your vote is heard.
I completely gave up saying this was an awesome franchise.
This stemmed from when they FIXED the aero wash in like update one. They did a 100% reversal of how aero wash afected the two leading cars. This showed me they have zero interest in actually making this a realistic game. When you can arbitrarily change values to have the game operate how you want it to versus how it should. Absolutely lost all respect for the game and the people behind it.
Forza 23 is a joke and I don’t think they can ever get it to be a AAA game like it was lauded.
I don’t know if there is a “real” simulation driving “game”. The NASA flight simulator is something like 23 stories tall. How big of a home grade consumer oriented driving simulator do you really want?
I know forza or GT or even NFS are not real (as we gamers define them) driving sims. But they work for me. Well, forza is still rather broken. And I don’t have GT yet. But you get my drift.
I can always fall back on FM7, FM6, a pinch FH5, and get my driving fix.
Exactly. That’s why it always seems silly to me when people complain about mass-market retail video games not being “serious simulators.”
Anyone who wants a “serious simulator” needs to look into buying (and/or building) some “$erious” hardware.
And clear out the junk from their two car garage. Cause they’ll need the space for all the equipment to power the hydraulic actuators and the room for the equipment. I’d also want at least four TV panels front rear and sides for a realistic view. And plenty of speakers and a big sub woofer.
If Forza doesn’t want to be a serious race sim then I don’t need the penalty system either. Even if the game wants to be a mixture of an arcade and sim racer, you should still implement an AI that is able to react to situations such as overtaking maneuvers or lapping.
I have now played over 85 cars to level 50 by myself. Preferably on SPA and LE MANS. The AI is atrocious, even for an arcade racing sim. Personally, it seems to me that the AI just does its laps mindlessly and doesn’t care what happens to the left or right of the AI cars.
For example, the AI just pulls over even though you’re half a car length next to the AI on the racing line. That’s not fighting for position, it’s reckless in any kind of race except Car Crash Derby. The behavior of the AI in the first few corners after the start alone is catastrophic, and that’s without the player having to do anything.
The AI’s braking on obstacle-free, straight stretches is also absolute nonsense. There is no reason for the AI to brake other than the car behind it crashing into the back of it.
As I said, I have leveled all my cars manually and things happen that have no place even in an arcade racing sim. It doesn’t matter as I drive 80% of the race in position 1 anyway (on the highest difficulty level - starting position after LI), but it’s extremely annoying at the start of the race and completely takes the flair out of the game.
Yeah, the AI in this game continues to astound me with how inept it is.
Started a race today in Free Play, D class Vintage Touring Cars. I was in a mildly upgraded Cortina, starting from 22nd place at Road America.
Against level 8 AI, I was up to 12th or 13th by turn 1. It was like the AI were all dragging anchors behind them. By the end of lap 1, I had made it up to P2! I’m not even that fast of a driver (I’m generally somewhere in the top 10-20% of the few Rivals LB’s that i try my hand at)… so if I’m having this easy of a time, the really fast guys must be bored out of their skulls.
Not to mention the AI’s complete inability to battle for position. If i go into a corner 2-wide with the AI on the outside, it’s practically guaranteed that he’s going off the track and into the nearest tire wall, even though I’ll have made no contact with his car and have left plenty of room.
I compare that to the AI in something like AMS2 where I’ve had loads of close, hard-fought, back-and-forth battles all race long, and it’s just mind-boggling how FM23 got it so wrong.
Yep since the changes made in the last update level 8 are no challenge, they now feel like level 3 and absolutely pointless to race against.
The latest FOMO 6 Cylinder challenge I just wanted to be over so would start position 3 with the 97 M3 Class A and blew straight passed 1st & 2nd off the line like they were standing still in every round, then on Suzuka the last round by lap 3 of 4 the distance was so great that when existing the main straight 2nd place had not even started entry to the straight.
So on a 4 lap race at Suzuka with the A.I set to the highest level 8 I finished the race with a 15 second lead. Just pathetic stuff smh
Modifying the A.I so they don’t make as much contact or 1st place running away should not be done by completely taking any challenge out the game, of which Turn10 have done.
I hope when the next update drops that Turn10 have found a way to make the A.I work as what we were sold in the leadup to launch and we can get back to racing.
As of now the only interesting part of the game is Rivals
If it’s impossible for you (Turn10) to get the A.I right at least add levels 9 & 10 with a disclaimer for those that are upset with the A.I running away that they shouldn’t use these two levels, Simple!
