FM's monthly content plans

I’m guessing it might be kinda like Horizon where all the different categories of events (campaign/story, multiplayer, rivals, seasonal, etc.) & car sources (dealership, auction house, playlist reward, gift, etc.) can seem overwhelming at first when you haven’t completed anything & aren’t sure what to prioritize, but later it probably starts to seem trivial & routine after completing so much that there’s less remaining to manage & you know what to prioritize (or even skip).

Agree with almost all of what you said, except am not that good in the “skip” department.

Yeah that was my thinking too.

In particular early on where you have the whole Builder’s Cup there to do, plus qualifying for an initial Driver Rating for multiplayer, then actually doing multiplayer, rivals and what not, THEN these time limited series to get reward cars…

The initial months look very busy.

The pace will probably slow once you get the Builder’s Cup done and you’re only doing the newly released chapters as they update the game with new cars and tracks, and whatever new time limited events, if you’re even motivated to do that or are off doing your own thing with multiplayer or whatever.

Should be more than enough to keep people busy if they want.

The new tracks will be added to your career…They have discussed this

Thank you Live service!

:crossed_fingers: for the quick addition of proper classic American cars in-game in one of the upcoming monthly updates! Woulda been nice to see the '58 Plymouth Fury for October due to the connection with the horror movie “Christine” but oh well…

It’s fun logging in to earn newly added cars. Makes them feel more limited & special, it gives you something to actually work towards, & keeps the game feeling fresh. Not the least bit surprised to see that you are being pessimistic about it, once again…

Shouldn’t need time-locked content to keep a $100 (ish) always-online game fresh. That’s the point, and the more players enable this practice, the more devs (and their parent-company CEOs and pencil pushers) are going to milk the you-know-what out of it.

I’m not getting the cons of adding new things to do & new cars to the game in-post. Y’all just want it as is from now to 2026-2028 or however long this game lasts?

Then I’d sincerely tell them to not buy the game until they think it’s worth the $60. Even as it stands I think it’s a solidly $60 game. So anything added on top of that is just more bang for my buck :+1:

I would prefer that as content is added, it’s available to all players from that point forward instead of only being obtainable within a limited-time window.

At least (from what they’ve said recently) FM2023 will have a longer window than Horizon’s typical weekly seasonal rewards, but it’s still limited-time availability.

People who buy the game later will have missed out on rewards from earlier events/playlists, getting less content/value for their money, and potentially being put at a disadvantage if those earlier limited-time reward cars were particularly competitive.

That is very fair! If not, hopefully with the longer window & more people attaining the cars, they won’t be so scarce or expensive in the auction house like so many cars are in Horizon at the moment.

I look forward to new tracks being added as permanent features, but limited time FOMO events in games have worn out their welcome for me.

“Limited time FOMO events” — nailed it!

And whoever mentioned that “not all games need an RPG element” is also right on the money. Look at GTA; they kind of started going there with the need to feed yourself etc. in San Andreas but have kind of backed that off in subsequent releases. If a game like that is rolling back RPG elements, then I see no reason what a game based around CARS and RACING would need to go in the opposite direction.

Know how I know you haven’t played the last two Horizons nearly enough? Because you said this.

Months of stupid decision after stupid, listless, meandering decision will sandblast the fun off of anything like it made John Kramer very angry.

Strongly agree on one thing here: A clear roadmap is crucial. Maybe not revealing cars all ahead of time, (I like some surprise) but things like tracks, DLC, features etc. need to be road mapped so that people don’t play the game aimlessly awaiting for their favorite old feature/track to return, get tired of waiting & then move onto something else. Which as things stand, is a huge possibility.

Theyre not going to release a road map because they would then be bound to it.

After the digital foundry video on the graphic quality i must buy this game. I know that turn 10 will be support the game with tracks events and cars. Some critics are flawless, because if you watch the details about the “new” maple valley and mugello you will see very nice improvements.

How else should we look at the years of radio silence and then the overwhelmingly mixed reaction to CarPG? To be honest, I might be more generous in describing that last part than I should be, because a direct quote from HokiHoshi, one of the least critical voices on the subject so far, is “None of this makes any sense.” Yeah, that’s a real banger of a quote for the rear cover.

That’s going to hurt this game far more than it would have just to avoid the live-service folly and release a complete product. The game’s starting off on a back foot and is telegraphing punches that don’t read like heavy hitters. How many updates of “…We’ve seen this before” will it take before the dopamine hit wears off and reality sets in? Remember, there’s an entire year of that ahead of us.
