So I excitedly purchased fm7 for pc a week ago with full VIP access, and some alarm bells went off for me right away. Firstly the VIP rewards were misleading, but they are making good on that, so i won’t speak on that.
The issue I see here is that fm7 has lost its soul, it’s meat and potatoes so to speak. As a tuner, painter, and top 20 driver there is almost nothing here. Where is hotlapping? Where is my storefront? Where is the individuality of making a Datsun 510 destroy S class supercars?
The things that have made forza not just another gran turismo clone are gone, stripped away for what? I am legitimately curious?
Forza has always been about customizing, making every day car into beautiful art pieces, and super car destroyers. This has been thrown to the side for homologation? Which clearly isn’t working, if you view the “leaderboards” for the career races you can clearly see “leaderboard cars” rising to the top of the heap. So the PI system which has been in place since fm1 was scrapped for a boring, overly restrictive, and I will call it now INNEFECTIVE system. Which does nothing more than limit creativity with tunes and builds.
Forza was always about the passion for cars, and car culture. It was the advertising platform for FM2 for gods sake. FM2 and FM4 nailed this, and I think you will find these are the two most highly regarded additions to the franchise. Not because they were pretty, or because it rained more often than it does in the pacific north west, but because you could take a Datsun, or a Honda and destroy a Ferrari or z06. Or if you got tired of racing you could go take a spin at car soccer, cat and mouse, or tag. The games had soul, and I genuinely hope forza 7 finds its soul in the form of patches and revisions to put the forza back in Forza Motorsport, because right now it’s just Motorsport, and a hundred other games offer that.
100% accurate. Forza 7’s core gameplay is so far separated from what makes Forza Forza that it may as well be GRID running in the Forza engine. That’s essentially what it is.
At least with GRID you could fill your custom lobbies with AI cars and set up a basic championship series. Such a simply feature, and it added tons of replay value.
Same. I even still have this lenticular-printed poster that they had up in Gamestop for the promotion of the first game that I made my friend who worked there give me at the time, where it looks like a regular NSX from one angle but a JGTC NSX from a different angle. I’ve loved this series since day one.
Now go back and play Forza 1 on the original Xbox and just compare the vibe of the two. I don’t even recognize Forza 7 as a Forza game in anything but name, which really makes me sad. Forza 7 is a great racing game, but it’s not a Forza game.
I think they made a good move with the homologation, at least the proper car classes are racing each other now. Previously you had Jeep Willys beating Ferrari’s and Lamborghinis and such, that sounds even more arcade to me.
Homologation improves nothing. You can restrict races in FM6 by division as well. All they did for F7 is create a new class (call it H for homologated) and then remove all the other classes. You could have homologated races in FM6 just by picking the division restriction and the class (or even PI, HP etc) in multiplayer or free play. Turn10 has simply removed options for FM7, thereby screwing over all the hotlappers and many others as well.
Been here since forza 2. Haven’t played competitively much at all until 6 but a lot of this makes sense. I played every game: FM2 - FH1, which were the good days. I remember my days from FM4 which mostly consisted of tag, and that was a total blast. CPLs really helped me play the game for hours and hours per day too, they took that out for whatever reason.
Now Forza is just ‘stick a bunch of random and sometimes retarded cars into a game and call it motorsport’. This homologation thing, it would be cool but it doesn’t fix the problems of leaderboard cars. It would’ve been better to outright nerf and buff certain cars. Doing one or the other will only shift the positions and do nothing, really.
What T10 needs to do is stop focusing on this 4K 60 FPS SICK GRAPHICS BRO 700 CARS thing and focus on what made forza great in the first place.
You had diversity, fun, and good racing when you wanted it. Now most of that is gone.
This thread is worrying me. I played all Forza’s from FM 2 to Horizon 3. I have not bought FM 7 yet due to bad internet and the download is so big. But this thread has me really worried.
It sounds like PI and customization is gone ? Or not working well ? Can some of you guys please go into a bit more detail of what exactly is gone now that makes you feel it’s not Forza anymore.
As a prospective buyer and huge Forza fan I will appreciate some more details.
The main problem is that in singleplayer (career mode) and current multiplayer you can’t just pick a car and upgrade it how you want and than drive or find a race online. As example i’m a GT-R fan and was lucky to get two versions as a level-up reward. Now i wanted to play some multiplayer and to my surprise there is “currently” no lobby that will allow me to use any GT-R. The only multiplayer division that’s available and interest me is the “modern hatchback”, where i could drive a 2016 honda.
The main change is that every car in the game is attached to a specific division and has extra upgrade restrictions called “Homologation”. This means not only is there a PI restriction for each division car, but also tire type, tire with, PS. So you have very little room to upgrade or do some crazy stuff and drive those in single-player/multiplayer. The only way to-do this currently is via “Free Mode” for single-player and private races for multiplayer.
So for some strange reason they have 30+ car divisions, yet only 5 are playable in multiplayer. So they need to add more divisions to multiplayer and also allow custom matches where we can use more open rules (just PI based). I liked the public lobby’s in FM2 and to this day have no clue whats so bad about them that they have removed them for so long.
Np, just a little addition. I think if they finally solve the crashes i will be quite happy with FM7, if they just add the divisions of my favorite cars. I understand the appeal to buy a cheap ass car and upgrade the hell out of it and than drive it in a S class race. However that’s not what i personally did in previous games, so i was actually looking forward to the new system, hoping to get more balanced races. So if they at least add all divisions to multiplayer i will have quite some fun, but yes ultimately i also can’t understand why they not just simply added the division system on top of the old PI based lobby’s.
I really hope they change this for multiplayer in the near future.
Don’t listen to them. This board in particular is full of complainers. The game is fantastic and the driving has never been better. Contrary to what OP said, Forza always has been and always will be about driving…and again, the DRIVING has never been better.
As a top driver in this game…and every forza game. The driving is ok, not particularly standout-ish not bad. So no if its not about the features, and content just fire up FM6, FM4, FM3, or FM2 and save your money, because those games drive just as well. Done and done.
They really don’t - the “feel” of the cars is vastly improved compared to previous games and they seem to hold the road better/more realistically than in previous games. I never played FM2 (late convert, I rode the GT train for way too long) but FM3, FM4, FM5, and FM6 don’t feel nearly as good as FM7.
I mention the top driver comment as a point that I am serious about the “driving experience” as you put it. As someone who knows the driving in forza on a very deep level, almost exploit-ably, i can tell you the driving is good, its not earth shattering, nor is it a stand alone selling feature. As I said you have a whole line of Forza titles at your disposal for that. You buy a NEW game for NEW content and features. Not for some stripped down Gran turismo clone.
Really why are people never happy for months on these formus there have been many many post about the changes need to make Forza 7 a game you want to many to name but will name some.
Do something about the cheating rammers
Stop people from doing V12 swaps with skinny wheels
Make the cars more balanced
Fix the badly broken PI system
And the list goes on and on and on
Well guess what a whole bunch of you got just what you asked for so will quote one of Australias great Multi Gold Medal Olympian SUCK IT UP BUTTER CUP
