When the game was released, everyone was talking about license issue but now some games have officially these brands in their car list (Grid Legends, Granturismo). So what happened to them? Do we still have hope about their return or we need to start thinking we need to play another game to see these brands?
If past history is any indication, VW was not ever included in Horizon 3, but returned in Horizon 4.
On the other hand, Porsche was excluded from one of the Motorsport games at release, but returned as an add on pack later.
So, you never know. Just because one gaming company is able to negotiate a licensing agreement with an auto company does not imply that every gaming company will be able to.
I imagine Lancia and Alfa are only in Gran Turismo 7 and GRID Legends because Polyphony and Codemasters got the licenses before the Stellantis shake-up. In other words, they got the licenses early before the games were any where close to release. Playground Games, meanwhile, made a bit of a mess when it came to announcing which manufacturers and what cars from said manufacturers made it into the game before launch. For example, BMW’s inclusion was announced very close to release, and the Lancia Stratos was seen regularly in prerelease footage before later being edited out. Most likely scenarios is that Playground Games probably get the licenses for the cars last (which is kind of stupid if you ask me if this is the case), and with no one being in the Stellantis European licensing offices at the time due to in-company restructuring, Playground couldn’t get the licenses for Lancia, Alfa, Abarth, Fiat, Citroen, and so on. Hopefully, as Doug mentioned above, all of those manufactures will return later as “new” content, and will hopefully come all at once as free car packs instead of being drip fed through the Festival Playlist like Toyota was in Horizon 4.
You are right, they did make a mess of unveiling. Respectfully though, everything else you mention is just speculation. Who knows why what brand was announced when, BMW or otherwise? That the Stratos was seen in an early clip is as about as useful as the Jeep Grand Wagoneer that spotted in an early clip of Horizon 4 that didn’t make it into H4. Early clips are early, not all cars/licenses survive to the sequel. There’s just nothing else to read into there.
What do you mean, ‘last?’ Last, in comparison to what? I agree, that would be stupid, to the point that it makes no sense. PG is on record disclosing that it can take years testing (whatever that means, grains of salt there) and readying before they greenlight a car for release into the game. That 6-wheeled MB thing was “in the works” during production of Horizon 3 and we didn’t see it until well into the life of Horizon 4. Point is, we’ve no idea how licensing is negotiated and prioritized, whether it’s more license-per-release or license-per-term/year/length of time; I suspect it’s a bit of both with varying degrees by manufacturer.
How do you know nobody was in-office during Stellanis restructuring? I’ve weather two business mergers myself, one hostile, and not a soul was ‘out to lunch’ during either. If anything, it’s more all hands on deck because everything has to be perfect. And remember, contracts for licensing for appearance and likeness such as in our case tend to be relatively welcome and not as difficult as the only heavy-lifting the license-holder has to do is open their hand to accept payment.
That’s not to say that exclusivity, which is very desirable in uses like this, doesn’t come into play. We have no idea what manufacturer is going to agree to an exclusivity clause to what other game or when, could happen at any time.
I decided to buy FH5 premium in pre-order mainly to race with old Lancia Rally Cars and hoping to see some of the NEW Lancia models included too. Like the Stratos remake, Delta Futurista, Delta “LaSupra” 1000hp, Delta Hillclimb, and the new 037 Kimera. The teasers showed more than once, at least the old Lancia Stratos, so I had no reason to fear those cars would be excluded at release.
It’s a scam. No excuses. This will be the last time I purchase a game tagged PG studio, also after seeing how they botched horizon open.
Sadly, that probably won’t happen.
I don’t know about PG, but at least MS only cares about exploiting our time, not pleasing us.
Perhaps we will see such a travesty on the Let’s Go! live stream in a few months.
“Great news!” Alfa Romeo and Lancia are coming back!"
“These cars can be earned as playlist rewards in Series XX!”
Isn’t the DS3 in the game? And isn’t that a Citroen Brand? It is reported that the old cars like Stratos, Delta, Abarth 500 are even in the Forza Horizon 5 game files. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the lazy devs just keeping all the old stuff from the previous literations of the game and just hide them instead of proper removal and programming. I mean there are bugs in this game that are known for more than eight years now - come on really?
They promised us all new modelled cars - but still most of the older builts that were available since FM4 or FH1 are still XBOX360 models - just try to open the bonnet and you know for sure - if you cannot open it at all than you have a pre Forzavista model in your garage… that was most likely modeled after photographs and not through 3D scanning.
I agree with the observations to some degree. Yet, there is none to blame for speculating so much. There is no Community Manager, no PR that cooldowns concerns or give answers to questions. As matter of fact, there hasn’t been even an AMA. They keep doing previews on youtube to show how cool they are, while they are so out of touch with the community.
If they do ever make it into H5 - You can bet your top dollar that, that is the way they’ll be reintroduced. H4 Toyota all over again.
I was pretty disgruntled with the way they handled that. Since they had the decency to re-include Mitsubishi via a free car pack in H4. I was stupid enough to think they would show the same decency with Toyota… Lmao, nope. Plus it still sits bitter with me that even in H5, some previously available and non-available Toyota’s are Still being held hostage behind the playlist.
Jesus. Do people ever search for a topic before making a new one? The cars are coming, they’re already listed in the credits, meaning a licencing deal has been done. Just be patient, and learn how to use a search engine.
Be patient! Yes of course. I did buy the game with the taught that it would become a decent game in a couple of years. I will of course be there playing and hating the game until it finally springs out and becomes a beautiful red rose. YOU Think,?..
