Only listened to the radio stations at the early start of the game when trying to harvest points for this / that or the other, then turned it off to focus on the driving side of things.
I think the only game where i’ve just cruised around, radio blaring was GTA San Andreas and that was purely for the country radio, would be nice if they had one on here.
I genuinely loved FH1 & FH2 songs, FH3 was still very good but not as much, FH4 was meh, and FH5 I have the music volume off and play Spotify in the background. That way there won’t be any in-game music playing through cut scenes and I still can enjoy the skill songs! I’ve also recently come back to FH1 and so the songs I listen to when playing FH5 are from there. ^^
If I had to choose the top 10, it would probably be these:
“Farewell To The Fairground” by White Lies (FH1 Horizon Rocks)
“Paddling Out” by Miike Snow (FH1 Horizon Pulse)
“We Bring an Arsenal” by Lostprophets (FH1 Horizon Rocks)
“Hot Mess - Duck Sauce Mix” by Chromeo ft. Elly Jackson (FH1 Horizon Bass Arena)
“Show Me A Sign” by Modestep (FH1 Horizon Bass Arena)
“Peacekeeper” by Bear Hands (FH2 Horizon XS)
“Come Closer” by Miles Kane (FH2 Horizon XS)
“The Wild Life” by Outasigh (FH3 Horizon Block Party)
“X Gon’ Give It To Ya” by DMX (FH3 Horizon Block Party)
“A Moment Apart” by ODESZA (FH4 Horizon Pulse)
As Runoff said earlier in the thread, he can’t stand listening to Lostprophets anymore because of what the lead singer did (Ian Watkins). Which is completely understandable.
If you don’t know about it, you can find his Wikipedia page, but take Runoff’s advice and don’t do so if you’re having a bad day.
I wonder if the ability to unlock certain songs in the Mixtape station necessitated sequential playback (with unique logic to avoid locked songs) instead of shuffling.
For those who may not be familiar with what I’m talking about, when the Mixtape station was introduced in FH5, certain songs could be unlocked by playing the Horizon History story and completing tasks during the Horizon Anniversary playlist series.
Anyway, I prefer the Hospital stations, FH4’s more than FH5’s. When I first started playing FH4 in 2020 though, I kept the radio off and played my own locally stored music from either a player app on the PC or audio fed into my PC from my smartphone. These days, I still occasionally turn off the radio (and enable Streamer mode in FH4 to disable most of the random music that plays before and after events) and play my own music. Although I have only played FH4 and FH5, I got a welcome taste of music from past Horizon games in the Mixtape station. I like everything from FH1 and FH3 on that station.
From FH4, my favorite Hospital songs are:
Sunrise
Let The Senses Clear Your Mind
Haltija
Dawnbreaker
Hot Wheels
Veloce
From FH4, my favorite non-Hospital songs are:
The Trials
The Storm
A Moment Apart
Blackwater
Satellite
Six Wave Hold-Down
RISE
Can’t Be Ignored
Shooting Star
Little of Your Love (BloodPop Remix)
Good Morning (Just Kiddin Remix)
Zodiac
Cheat Codes
Everything is Awesome!!!
From FH5, my favorite Hospital songs are:
Route 174
Nimble
Fly Away
Skyscraping
Boundless
Burn Out
Midwest Shuffle
Another Star
Naperone
From FH5, my favorite non-Hospital songs are:
Mars, the Bringer of War
Techtonic
Channel 43 (On a Wing and a Prayer Showcase)
Tulum (Horizon Apex Expedition)
Get To Know You (feat. Aviella)
Everything on the Horizon Wave station
Honestly, I have such a different taste in music that I do not enjoy any of the music included in the game, outside of a few of the classic pieces. I generally turn the sound off when it comes to the music.
In fairness, this is not a criticism of Horizon 5, since I do not care for most music in nearly every video game I play.
Now, if they would have a prog, jazz or big band channel, my thoughts would be different, but I know that won’t happen, nor would I expect it to.
Been playing FH3 lately and being reminded that the Block Party soundtrack is elite in this game. Really the only good version of this station imo. FH4 and FH5 are just terrible with the exception of a few really good ones (Intergalactic, Rappers Delight, and It’s Like That come to mind). FH3 on the other hand is just great all around. The Run-DMC and Beastie Boys songs are fantastic, Bust a Move is great, and X Gon Give It To Ya remains the best hype song ever. All of the other tracks on this station are great too, What’s Golden remains a favorite of mine to this day.
This game’s soundtrack as a whole is just miles better than FH4’s and FH5’s combined.
Magnolia Park, Derek Sanders - Feel Something (FH5 Epitaph)
Bring Me The Horizon - Teardrops (why would they pick an explicit song for an E-rated game?) (FH5 XS)
Nothing But Thieves - Unperson (FH5 XS)
DREAMERS - Fake It Till I Make It (FH4 Pulse)
Plague Vendor - New Comedown (FH5 XS)
Plague Vendor - Live More (FH5 XS)
White Lies - Come On (FH3 Vagrant)
White Lies - Farewell to the Fairground (FH1 Rocks)
blink-182 - Bored to Death (FH3 Vagrant, FH5 Mixtape)
Avicii - Levels (Skrillex Remix) (Original song is also good btw) (FH1 Bass Arena, FH5 Mixtape)
Galantis - Runaway (U & I) (FH3 Pulse)
Eric Prydz - Liberate (FH2 Bass Arena)
Chromeo - Jealous (FH2 Pulse)
The Black Keys - Lonely Boy (FH1 Rocks)
Jungle - Busy Earnin’ (FH2 Pulse)
Fred V & Grafix - Sunrise (FH4 Intro, FH5 Mixtape)
WALK THE MOON - Headphones (FH4 XS)
Pyramid, Willy Wesly - The Phoenix (FH2 Pulse)
And now, my opinions on each artist featured in FH soundtracks:
Thanks to FH4, I discovered STARSET and I Prevail, which I turned into a fan of their other songs. I became a Rock/Metalhead lol, it’s my #1 genre.
The Black Keys’ “Lonely Boy” is also in NFS The Run’s soundtrack, even their singer and guitarist of the duo band, Dan Auerbach, performed “Heartbroken, in Disrepair” for NFS The Run as well.
One of White Lies’ songs are in other games such as NFS Hot Pursuit and DiRT 2 such as “Bigger Than Us” and “To Lose My Life.” I even heard more songs from them, especially the latest ones.
Nothing But Thieves also had decent songs such as “I Was Just a Kid” in NFS Payback and “Life’s Coming In Slow” in Gran Turismo 7.
For Poptropicaslutz and Magnolia Park, I heard they collaborated to make a song together called “Catastrophe”. It’s so badass like a hard banger that they worked together, even if they were part of the same record group - Epitaph Records. Also, Poptropicaslutz made alternate versions of “Bittersweet Teeth” and they sounded great.
The Ghost Inside had one cool song from 2012, known as “Engine 45”, and they collabed with Point North with “Safe and Sound”.
WALK THE MOON has their biggest hit I listened to, which is “SHUT UP AND DANCE”, and as for its lead singer Nicholas Petricca, I heard his performance in Morxgn’s “Home”, which the original song is in DiRT 4’s soundtrack.
I listened to a few other songs from BMTH, Galantis, and Avicii.
I listened to Eric Prydz’s other song, “Pjanoo”, which appeared in GTA 4’s TBOGT.
For Jungle, I heard their biggest hit, “Back On 74,” just before I found out their other song, “Busy Earnin’” was in FH2.
Fh4’s Block Party also had “Award Tour” by A Tribe … and “Rebirth of Slick” by Digable Planets. And wasnt “Don’t Sweat the Technique” by Eric B. & Rakim in 4? Those are some throwbacks to high school and first year of college for me. Classics.
I used to work in a record store while in college (kids, ask your parents) so my tastes can be all over the place. The classical station in FH4 might be my favorite radio station in any of the games. In FH2, i remember bumpin “Klapp Klapp” by Little Dragon. In FH3, i was feelin “Go” by M83. In FH5 … maybe “Control” by Mannequin (ahem) P …
I remember “Debaser” by the Pixies in one of em. Maybe “Bug” by Wavves from FH1. “1901” by WA Phoenix in FH1.
But most of the time, if I’m going to drive to music, I’m going to be listening to one of my playlists … not the game’s stuff.
I bet the devs couldn’t find a similar type of music without profanity, so they had no choice. What’s even more worse is Industry Baby having the same situation. PGG be choosing explicit songs even if their game is meant to be rated E for Everyone, for all ages of course, especially children.
Btw for those who hate the looping of the songs , because i’ve read some of you say this, you can edit the RadioInfo file yourselves for each station where it says Trackloop and just set it to -1 and it won’t loop anymore
