Hello everyone
Guys, please help me, I’m a bit confused.
Is it recommended to keep the stock engine or not?
Let’s say, as an example, Mercedes 300 SL
I swapped the engine, but it looks like all the A.i cars are far far behind me, 20( or more) seconds.
Could anyone please help me?
I’m playing mostly single player.
Thank you in advance
If you have the option to swap in a naturally aspirated engine that reduces weight, and if adding said option opens up the ability to add a centrifugal supercharger (CSC), that is typically the most ideal route for any given PI class
Even without a CSC, if you have an engine swap that reduces power (while ideally being lighter than the stock engine), it usually opens up more building freedom by lowering your PI points, allowing you to invest into weight reduction, grip, aero, etc where you otherwise might not have been able to
If sticking with stock engine, I think the ideal power adding priority path is:
-
CSC (if available)
-
intake and exhaust (only weight reducers)
-
anything else prior to camshafts (avoid camshafts in almost all instances)
-
save oil cooling/intercooler as a last resort option, same with flywheel upgrades
It highly depends on the stock engine, the available swaps and the respective aspiration upgrades. Normally centrifugal supercharger is the best aspiration.
A general tip:
Install the race transmission to level engine PI cost (not fully adjustable gearboxes can falsify the PI costs).
Then go for the engine with the best power/weight ratio and ideally lowest weight that fits into your intended class you want to bring the car to.
Say your stock engine is at A643, swap 1 at A675, swap 2 at A688. You want to build to A700. Bring every engine to 700 and compare power/weight ratio and overall weight.
Unfortunately there are no power graphs. With them it would be easier to explain.
Thank you so much for your reply, guys.
some engines are better than others. Some stock engines are better than others, It depends on what class are what engine swap options you have. All things being equal you want an engine that lower the PI of the stock one.
