Seems like both the 488 and Cali T have new engine sounds, they’re significantly louder than the old sounds and it almost sounds like they have the DCT “Fart”.
The new 488 sound is now more agressive/louder, it joins the soundstyle of the R8 V10 who is now one of the best/accurate/natural sound I ever heard in a Forza. They need to continue with such great upgrades
I drive often in cockpit view and it’s always nice to hear the loud bass !
I think they are making vast improvements. But the Paganis for certain need a sound fix. The cinque sound is way too deep, and the higher rpm results in the most horrible sound I’ve ever heard. The backfires are great but the downshifting noise is distorted and low pitched. The Agera RS should have the One:1 sound and the huracan should get the new R8 sound. The new 2017 Ford GT is an audio nightmare. And the Urus doesn’t crackle or sound like it should. The 430 Scuderia sounds like a 458 and the 360 sounds like a high pitched Scuderia. The FXX sounds like a Laf and it really bugs me. The 812 Superfast should sound like the Laf and TDF but it sounds dreadful, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia sounds like an RB26.
[Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D] were they thinking with the crx? “Let’s just insert the Ford Fiesta sound into the car and call it a day”. Now we have the most unequal sounding lineup of cars in the game. Half the Hondas sound like a straightpiped beehive and the other half don’t even sound like their cars in the slightest.
Somebody please elaborate on what makes it so impossibly difficult to make the cars sound correct on this game and why car sounds cannot be reused from previous games.
I haven’t had too many complaints about the engine sounds other than the totally messed up Subaru 2.0 and 2.5 boxer engines, but today I discovered what might be literally the worst exhaust sound in the whole game…the stock V10 in any of the Vipers. I’m not even sure if that sounds like any real car at all. The worst part of it is that they did a decent job with the V10 in the R8, Gallardo, and Huracan, so how could they have possibly messed up the Viper so badly? I won’t even drive any of the Vipers because the sound is so annoying.
Because of all of the FH4 crashes in the last 2 days, I decided to go back to FH3 for a while, and I am totally amazed at the difference in quality of the exhaust. Granted, FH3 had issues too, but they got more of it right than FH4 has done. In FH3, the boxer engines are just about right on (I own an Impreza in real life, so I know what they are supposed to sound like). The stock V8’s in most of the musclecars are WAY better than those in FH4. In FH3, you can actually hear most of the cars while idling, but in FH4, they are nearly silent (there are a few exceptions like the noisy popping of the turbo rally motor). Honestly, we might be better off if they just tossed almost every exhaust sound file in FH4 and replaced them with the files from FH3. In my experience, engine sounds have been the worst part of any racing game, because no matter how good the graphics get, you just can’t seem to replicate real engine sounds.
Well don’t look now, but GT Sport is really starting to hit its stride in this regard. I’ve noticed that though they are rather quiet compared to Forza, all the sounds seem to extremely accurate. In fact almost everything in GTS’s cars is extremely accurate and made with tons of love.
That isn’t to say T10 doesn’t care, but I think T10/Playground have been rushing through their latest games to get them out. These deadlines and rushed products have made sounds of the cars an afterthought. I mean it only makes sense if you’re making more game in the same amount of time. I don’t know how many are on staff, but I would hope for the next game they take their time and recreate everything to the upmost accuracy.
FM4 had better sounds than what we have now, I remember watching that video of them recording the audio straight from the cars. It’s an absolute shame what the cars sound like now, especially when they did all that work to collect those accurate sound bits. Now GTS is using the exact same technique that was used in FM4 and it shows. Can’t imagine what will happen when GT7 has God knows how many cars with everything sounding and looking right.
Here’s to hoping T10 takes their time to get everything right for FM8 whenever that may come.
Everyone does that, mate. Do you think people conjure sounds out of thin air? Do you seriously believe Kaz has found a magic formula for sound recording? Go watch Playground’s recording of the Senna for this very FH4 in one of their streams, it’s the exact same thing everyone does, lol.
They’re redoing their whole sound bank. The sounds in FM4 had accurate samples but weren’t great, sorry. Everything has always sounded too digitized in Forza. There are many cars in both FM7 and FH4 with placeholders because they simply don’t have the samples yet. JONK came here clean in the forums and said they’re redoing all of the samples, yet people just refuse to search around and read. It’s my understanding that some of these samples could’ve been picked differently, but they’re limited to what they have.
If Gran Turismo fancies you more, then go play that. They do have accurate samples now (about time!), but the visceral feel is completely missing and the echo in the replays is terrible. Just don’t expect to come in here as even more of a layman than I am and be taken seriously.
It’s very disappointing to read people saying FH3 was better when there were many issues, including cars like Mustang which sounded too quiet while the LS swap was way too loud. M4 and Skyline R34 sounds were wrong in FH3 as well and I remember how much of a debate there was over it.
So after reading my post and some other posts in this thread I admit I was a little harsh in my approach. I’m glad to hear that Playgrounds/T10 are rebuilding their library and I’m sure it’ll take a while to get every car right. The cars they have worked on have all pretty much changed for the better. (People still complain on R34)
As for the Forza/Gran Turismo battle, I’ve made my bed in this generation lol. I’ve supported Forza and will continue to support until this gen is over. I actually just bought a One X for FH4, FM7, and the upgrade for FH3. Next generation is a whole other story though and that’s where my biggest concerns lie. I’ll probably end up getting both consoles next gen, but the one I buy first and support most will 100% depend on the quality of the first game in each series. Another FM5 or FM7 (at launch) won’t cut the cake for me, but I’m sure T10 have learned from the past. Let’s just say I’m pretty optimistic for the future, especially if they are able to take their time.
The viper was the first car I went to drive in this game. Literally drove it for ten seconds and have not touched it since (the FD viper is an exception, because they somehow got this right…still confused on that one). The viper is literally undriveable with the exhaust it currently has and it was the first car I mentioned on this thread many pages ago (actually, it was THE reason I first came to the forums).
The decisions this dev team are making are frustrating as well as simply confusing. They seem to be fixing cars that need just little tweaks, and not even touching cars that are drastically wrong such as the Vipers, Ford GT, Pagani’s (to name just a few) and oh yeah, the Hoonitruck (don’t even get me started). Those cars for me and many others are undriveable because of how inaccurate the exhausts are. It’s not a good experience. I wish they would focus on fixing these cars and then go onto cars that need little tweaks because those other cars are at least semi passable and driveable without absolutely raging.
Hi guys,
So I guess some of you already noticed that. While the general sound quality in FH4 is great and some cars sound really good, there is quite an inconsistency across the board.
Some cars just sound veery artificial and don’t come close to their real world counterparts or lack some sound characteristics of the latter.
My wish for either further improvements or the next FH game would be to really go into sound and make the sound as accurate as possible.
For example: The Jaguar F Type is an absolutely insane sound and crackle machine. Yet in the game the engine does sound quite artificial and the crackles often sound like some sound distortion. Or take the Cayman GTS. The overall engine sound is very accurate I believe. But it just lacks those accurate crackles. Although there is tons of material available on the internet to create a sound or a possibility to record real sound.
Or take the Huracan, same issue unfortunately. These little details like crackles just add so much to the authenticity of a virtual car. If all those cars had a really accurate representation of the real life sound it’d improve everything so much and also create a large difference in sound between the cars.
My wish would be that this is going to be improved in the future. Either for this game or for future games.
Hope someone reads this.
Please let me know your thoughts about this issue.
Ok so minus the tunnel effect. Racing is dirty, loud, and smoky. PG/T10 seem to think it’s clean and quiet. Shame too cos their physics are 2nd to none in this arena.
