Eliminator - Discussion Thread!

Here I am approaching the finish line… impossible to lose from here, right?

Sadly not… it turned out I missed it by a cigarette paper’s width.

Is there no way to make the finish ‘zone’ a bit bigger? Also, when you are just about to approach it, the ‘line’ disappears from view altogether, just when you MOST need to be able to see where it is! Why?

I think all players would benefit from a few tweaks being made here and there.

How do I on PC map the car choosing controls correctly? There are no buttons assigned for it so I can’t choose which car I want when I win head-to-head races because the circle is completely empty. I’ve seen other people on Youtube have the buttons present and correct but when I look through the controls menu there doesn’t seem to be any options for this.

I have played Eliminator multiple times and am tier 6, the highest car drop I got was a level 8, the highest level cars I had were the level 10 Aventador and the Pro 2 Truck. Looking forward for more content for the future, maybe a level 11 that is all FE cars and Unicorn cars would work well.

Well, initially I did not like “The Eliminator” very much, but this was mostly due to the fact I was struggling to complete the two most difficult achievements.

Since I eventually completed those achievements, “The Eliminator” seems to be a little more fun, albeit still very annoying when heading in the wrong direction most of the times a H2H starts!

So, if anyone is hating the game mode, give it a chance.

Same, I originally intended to quit after getting the achievements but gave it another chance and it’s okay. Not great but okay. It could be made closer to great if they make a few little tweaks.

As for the mode being a casual’s dream, more so the opposite I imagine - you need to be pretty good to compete at this mode. I imagine casuals getting frustrated quickly, especially with the often underpowered and un-grippy cars on wet hills etc. I don’t really understand the rationale for making the cars like this, when the ability exists to easily tune them to make them much easier to drive. It only serves to make it a mode for the more skilled / patient, and put everyone else off, it seems to me. Which surely isn’t the intention.

Keep an eye on the map circle direction because most of the finish points are toward the center of the circle and challenge everyone that is heading the wrong way.

It is fine to be heading the wrong direction sometimes looking for better vehicle drops but when you see someone coming for always start heading away from center circle. Yes, I know this sounds dumb but be ready to stop and turn around. Kinda like bait them in, try to time it so you get the jump on them. The time it takes them to slow down, turn around, may give you enough of an advantage.

Just to confirm level 10’s do spawn but it must be incredibly rare, I got my achievement for driving one through a car drop, it was a while ago but I’m sure it was just before the arena shrinks for the last time and it was near where the Eliminator logo is.

I stopped playing after getting all the achievements, fun mode but without any incentive I don’t think I’ll be going near it again.

I’m predicting GTA Online will rip this off in the next few months or Fortnite will turn the tables for once and implement it in some form.

Rocket league seems like it would be a natural fit for this sort of gameplay as well.

Aside form sounding like a broken record with the main things about this mode existing and in general, there are a lot of other issues that need to be addressed. Some feedback below.

  • Do not have any matches at night time. You can’t see anything and it detracts from it. I will intentionally lose when it’s night so I can get away from it.
  • Events. I know it’s early days but I’d like to see special limited time events, like everyone spawns with a level 10 car, or something else actually fun.
  • Trees trees trees trees trees trees. I swear 99% of games I play, the arena is always centralised around the Lakehurst Forest region. I don’t know about you but having a racing game where almost every race/game I play I’m driving through forest really kills the experience for me.
  • Asynchronous game starts. You see, everyone is supposed to start at the same time but I never do. I’ve seen people getting car drops as I spawn in, I’ve seen car drops right in front of me with no one around disappear as I take control because other players have been able to start playing before I was. I’ve started a match in the timeout zone because the ring shrunk past me before I could start driving.
  • Head to head quitters. Why am I still racing a head to head when someone quits out? It’s a waste of valuable time to just race 2 minutes to a location by myself. If a player in a head to head quits out, end the head to head and award the player still in the game with the win. How this is a thing is beyond me.
  • Final area/final showdown head to heads. I was in a level 9 car, in a head to head. There were less than 12 people left and the ring was shrinking so I needed to win before the ring reached its final size. I did, I got to the end and it even brought it the UI to tell you you finished and was about to win. But because the ring shrunk to it’s final size during this process/cutscene, even though I won the head to head before time ran out, I was awarded with a blank screen for a while before it told me I lost head to head and no level 10 car awarded. I think if a head to head is 75% complete then let them finish it before the final showdown. It doesn’t matter if there are less than 12 people in the final showdown. If it’s such a big deal then head to heads should be instantly stopped at 12 players and the ring instantly begins shrinking to the final area to immediately start the final showdown countdown.
  • Level 10 cars. If a player has a level 10 car, I think their marker should be gold on the mini map. Why not make them a target for having the highest level car in the game.
  • Arena size. I don’t know about you but most of my games are as follows. Spawn, maybe find a car drop, drive around for a few minutes chasing markers, looking for other players to head to head, have the worst luck finding people, repeat. Even if I spawn in the middle of the map I can’t find anyone. Make the arena one size smaller initially but double the time it takes the outer ring to shrink to it or something. I rarely can find anyone to head to head in games. And that’s multiplied by all of the trees because I always have to drive to the forest. :expressionless:
  • Have more higher level car drops in the game. I think it might already do this but if it doesn’t, have them respawn into the new arena if they are outside of the arena when the outer ring is shrinking. I think there should be 2 level 10 drops in every game, 3 level 9 etc etc. It’s more fun when you have a chance to pick up fun cars. Hell, if no one has gotten a level 10 car drop, mark it on the map for everyone to see. Battle Royale games do this all the time with high level gear drops, why not do it here?
  • Car drop timeouts. I’ve seen high level car drops just disappear as I (and others) have gotten close to them. No other cars around or anything. That leads me to believe that if no one has gotten a high level car drop after a certain period of time then it respawns somewhere else. Great, but it should respawn if it’s outside of the arena and no one is around it. If a player sees it and is heading towards it, stop the counter or something. To have a level 9 car drop disappear 10 meters away from you because you’re trying to get up a mountain in a level 1 mini, totally not fair or fun.
  • Rear wheeled cars. Cars like the Supra and Galant should never be in the mode. All wheel drive cars are the only viable cars in this game (FH4) so to have rear wheeled cars in a mode that forces you to not take roads and go up hills and go through forests 99.999999999% of the time, why?
  • The reset position still is not good enough. Let me press the rewind button to reset my position, the amount if times I’ve been screwed over and still have not been able to reset my position myself. Or if I’m rolling down a hill and know I’ll be respawned back to the top, why should I have to wait, why can’t I just manually reset myself? I genuinely don’t understand.
  • UI blinding your. The UI is far too large on screen. When you start, when you have a head to head, when you start the final showdown, when you win a head to head, everything, all of it, it’s awful. You can’t see a thing when it’s on screen. Redesign it to not cover the centre of the screen. Have the text at the top and other elements on the sides, or something else, just don’t cover the middle of the screen. It’s ok if you win the entire match or possibly a head to head as well, but all the other times, no.
  • Maybe randomise the season as well? Just so there is some variety with matches. I know that this might increase load times getting into matches but it would be nice.
  • Initial spawns. With the mode as it is, we shouldn’t have to spawn on a road. The mode forces you to ignore all roads already. It would be nice to not be locked into spawning on a road initially. I know that again, it’s more work to develop someone outside of what the game can do but developers should be focusing on the player experience and user-friendliness, not what’s easy and can just be pumped out. Quality over quantity.

That’s everything I can think of right now, whether it’s good feedback or not, I’ll let you decided. I would at least hope that my feedback and the feedback of the rest of the community isnt falling on deaf ears.

Although I do agree with some of you niggles, I have found “The Eliminator” more enjoyable since I completed the two most difficult achievements.

I also do not like:
Night Matches, Trees and the UI blocking your view.

I have also noticed the way some players seem to get instant car drops, but I wonder if this due to each user selecting their car and spawn location quicker.

Maybe an idea to fast travel to where you want to spawn prior to entering “The Eliminator”?

Has there been an update to rectify the need to finish a H2H when your opponent quits? Just that recently, my H2Hs have finished before I get to the finish line with “You’ve Beaten You Opponent”.

So maybe that has been fixed?

What I have noticed recently is that I seem to be winning “The Eliminator” a lot more over the last few days.

Now, this could be that there are a lot of seasoned professionals have give up after winning endless final races or that there are a lot new players (AKA lambs to the slaughter) who got FH4 for Xmas.

I dunno, but I went from struggling to win a single game of “The Eliminator” in the first week, to winning around 7 in the last few days.

Maybe it’s not the above reasons and I’m just getting better at avoiding trees or sticking to the road more.

But give it time, it will get easier.

My strategy (if it is one), is to spawn on the coast near to “Arthurs Seat” and head South as there are often 4 or 5 car drops and you are bound to get a decent level car.

As with with all car drop locations, they are random, so won’t appear all the time, but worth a shot.

Then get down to H2H making sure you have your back to the perimeter.

Then when unsuspecting player approaches, gun it towards them and challenge them. Normally an easy win, even with a lower level car.

Then just keep levelling up and get to know where the rough finish points are for the final race.

Position yourself and time your run along the longest road out of the arena to coincide with the countdown, so you are hitting the perimeter flat out as the timer reaches zero.

This means 50/50 you’ll be facing the right way (if you are an optimist) or 50/50 the wrong way if you are a pessimist!

Despite my normal dislike of all things Battle Royale, I have to take my hat off to Playground Games for giving this to the players for free, well over a year from game release.

Even just won it with a L5 Focus when there were a couple of L10 cars in the final 11 and I’m pretty rubbish to be honest, so it can be done!

I have been playing too much Eliminator. I drove about 400 miles to visit family yesterday and kept scanning the side of the highway for purple smoke.

It just did that thing again in a head-to-head where I’m in the lead, the opponent is out of sight behind me, it says I’m 1/2 and then it says my opponent beat me and the game ends. That’s happened twice now in about 30 hours of play and it appears to be a bug. Either the opponent is really in the lead but the game doesn’t show or tell me, or it’s handing them the win undeservedly even though they’re miles behind. I don’t know which.

I seem to do a lot of Eliminator games in a row, I can’t resist pressing A at the end of them all. I like the game, they should switch off the night time mode. I wish the purple smoke allowed you to take the car or upgrade +1. Also why is the game filling up my garage with cars that I already own, because the wheelspin collects the car?

Oh man I just had something very maddening happen. I get challenged by an R8 just before the final circle. I race to the opposite side of the zone, win the race, go to upgrade my car. Upgrades me outside the zone, I get timed out in 5 seconds. Seems unfair right?

The taunt ‘what’s the matter, scared?’ must have been coined with this game mode in mind, it was never so apt… the number of people who run away from you even early in the round, even if they’re in a faster car and you’re in a Mini… wow.

I’m guessing someone has already created one of these, but cannot find one anywhere, so attempting to create my own.

Just wondering how many actual “Final Race” finish point locations there are?

So far I have got these:

Firstly created the map from many many screen captures, loaded in to editing program and painstakingly pieced them together to make the full map (this is just a small version of the actual map).

Then took a zoomed out screen capture during the final race of 7 of “The Eliminator” events and overlaid them onto the original map, so all those points are 100% accurate.

How many more is there?

I had one in Edinburgh.

Yeah, I have too, before I started screen capturing the finish point in order to overlay it onto my map. Not had it since.

So far I have managed to get 11 finish points captured and hope there is not many more.

Also started to capture the final arena to try and figure out the “Best Road Out”, but only got six of those so far. :frowning:

This is all in the hope the finish points aren’t random for each final arena.

That would suck immensely! LOL

…and suck immensely, it does!

Just played “The Eliminator” out of “Broadway” as the final arena and there are at least two destinations I have discovered, one being “Greendale Airstrip” and the other being “Tarn Hows” (South). :frowning:
