My friend and fellow Forza Motrsport youtuber/community organizer, Erratic posted this video.
I do not agree with him on the number of hoppers being too much, but he does strike at a problem that I feel goes deeper and really fruistrating the community and content creators. That is the small lobbies. I’ve already posted about fixing the matchmaking/rating system, so I will just leave a link here to that discussion at as it would at least fix the issue of filling lobbies based on the entire population participating in an event.
The crux of the lobby size issue though is caused by event overlap within a single hopper. For the most part, open versus GT hopper vs TC hoppers are different players and don’t affect the others significantly from my experience. However, right now in the Endurance hopper, you have 4 races running concurrently without rally enough time to get into the 5th race once you leave the 1st one. I checked the others, and medium/long races cause you to miss 2 race events, and short races cause you to miss 1 race event. This takes 10 hoppers, and turns it into 27-37 separate events based on how quick a player might join the next event or wait because of low remaining time will mena an even smaller lobby.
That is a lot of concurrent events splitting the playerbase that is honestly quite limited right now. Steam numbers are not accurate because it leaves out console, pc xbox store, and gamepass players, but when Motorsport is 1/20th the amount of Forza Horizon 5, that is a problem as that likely carries over to the other ways of playing.
I recommend eliminating race ovarlap at all. I should have enough time to get into the very next event once I leave the one I am in. At the very least I would eliminate overlap in short races (pracitce could still open while the previous is going) and defnitetively elimnate it for endurance, and then limi overalap in medium/long races to 1 race event. And make sure I have enough time to get into the next event without having to rush, like at least 3-6 minutes before joining an event ends. This would reduce effectively 27-37 playerbase split a 15 playerbase split.
To make this easier to see.
Open Class: 9 concurrent races to 5.
Spec racing: 9 concurrent to 6
Featured: 9 concrrent to 4
Obviously elimating it altogether reduces total concurrent events down to 10.
