The game cheats with the physics, and I’d rather they just used real physics, and change the Ai intelligence instead. Also A800 to S1 changes grip as well.
I have to agree, real physics over this ‘fake/failed’ AI would be highly appreciated. What happened to all that data they stated AI use to drive like human players, or was that another PR stunt?
I deliberately held up the 12th place AI in one of my tests, and was a good minute behind the other AI when I released it, guess where it finished… 1st (w’'.?) How was that even possible in a 3 lap race? On another repeat test, it came 3rd. Again how?
I’m wondering if these cheaters online have tapped into this, and are using that to jump in front of everyone? (not talking about lag etc, but simply the fact they can increase their HP by 100x normal levels, just like the AI can).
We all knew the AI was wonky (if that’s the right term for it) in previous versions, but this is a whole different ball game. I’d have FH3/FH4 AI over this anyday. Even though I found unbeatable easy to beat with a well tuned car.
As part of testing a track, level, PI… stock cars were supposed to be able to win without modification in the hands of a good driver against the AI at any level? I remember this being talked about a couple of years ago in early FH4 monthlies and was a deciding factor for Trials. Remember the track competition, and how we had to design it around certain criteria etc. What happened to that concept?
Anyways I’m rambling, but I 100% agree that AI need overhauled there is a vast difference losing fairly and losing to an AI that’s cheating. This rubber banding on all levels of difficulty, is a complete joke, it’s that bad at times the AI cars look stuck together, bumper to bumper.
I have noticed the same without deliberately doing controlled tests like yourself. Thanks for doing this and confirm it isn’t just my imagination. FH5 continues to disappoint.
No probs, you’re welcome. I’m at my wit’s end with it all.
i have no issues at all with seasonal championships other than cross country, but i have noticed they are faster than they should be. with cross country i basically have to never hit the brake and cut every corner as much as i can and i just barely win, usually i have to retry a dozen times just to get the right line for a close win. i literally spend an hour just doing this one series and i just dont know if i have it in me to do that this week.
Maybe give this tune try, it pretty much stays glued to the ground and takes the line I want it to on offroad. Only the last race is a bit tricky with a few turns I need to brake early because of the rain and since it’s on stock brakes.
Not only that, but instead of tuning 1 or 2 cars and testing, you now need to find the perfect car out of 20+ cars for optimal handling, speed and acceleration for a chance to win against unbeatable AI.
What makes this even worse, you add HP the AI adds 1.5x, add grip the AI adds 2x and so forth.
The AI should have the exact same as you in unbeatable, same HP, tires etc and of course abide by the physics we have to. The AI don’t need to worry about screen flair, fog, rain or tire smoke as they can’t see it, unlike us (an instant disadvantage).
What irks me the most about rubber banding is being forced to pick certain cars to win an unbeatable AI race. Quickly gets boring if I always have to use the same few cars and leave hundreds of others in my garage collecting dust.
For giggles, I kept doing an unbeatable B700 race over and over again the other night. I was using a Shelby Daytona on stock tires tuned for maximum speed and minimum drag. No matter how I tuned the car, including exiting the race and changing the upgrades, the AI in pole position was always another Daytona. No matter what I did, I couldn’t beat it. The cleaner I ran, the more it would rubber band ahead of me. If I got close, it would quickly pull away like I was standing still, taking corners like it was glued to the ground with enough power to be A800 or lower S1.
It’s a problem the devs REALLY need to fix if they expect FH5 to be popular for the next few years.
You somehow managed to nerf the AI in the dirt race into 1 type of car. The AI becomes dumb since the same car shares just 1 driving line and slows each other down.
Shows how much the AI lacks polish, and so much for anything goes championship programming.
Biggest issue are horrible tunes. Most offroad tunes for example are unstable, slidey bounching bunnies or ones that take “suspension should absorb it” to another level by making sure car comes to complete stop after landing.
ha ha
theres one cc course that ends with a huge jump to the finish line (at Meluge iirc) The number of times i got to that jump in the lead of race and then just come to a stop and be passed, before i had the sense to turn rewind on
It’s not a suspension or tuning issue. It’s a landscape-related bug. Your tires are going below ground and getting stuck. Try it in the GMC Jimmy. Your tires go all the way below ground up to the Jimmy’s frame and you’re permanently stuck.
With the Bel Air race, and a few other seasonals this week, does it seem like the AI has become even more ram happy than previously?
I mean, there’s one sharp turn on the first race for the Bel Airs, where you really have to slow down to stay on the track, and the AI simply doesn’t do that. They’re charging straight into the woods, then flying out of the woods like they didn’t do anything wrong. I had to keep doing rewinds like a dozen time to get one where they AI didn’t ram me like 6 times in that turn.
The Bel Air race wasn’t too bad, actually. I won at least 2, and did well enough in the 3rd that it didn’t matter.
I tried to do the cross country races in the Toyota Baja truck, and it did not work out. Switched to the Bronco, and it was like night and day.
The Hypercar race was a struggle. What is with that hairpin on Chihuahua circuit? I did a dozen or so laps in Rivals, and hit it clean every time. But in the actual championship, almost every lap, the car would suddenly lurch to the left for no apparent reason in the braking zone. Exact same car, and same tune. Only the track conditions were different. And if anyone thinks that the AI are on rails, and only follow the racing line, no, they do not. I can tell you definitively, that they will swerve across half a track to try to ram you, and if they can get just a little bit ahead along side, they will press you against a wall, or try to pinch you between another car to slow you down.
That’s what I mean, there are races where just at the starting line, the AI has bumped into me, from my right. The AI has really gotten aggressive with ramming.
The most dumb thing AI in this game does is if you are drafting an AI car, it suddenly gets 500 HP boost and it starts to overtake other AI in front of it like crazy keeping gap between you and it the same and gives up after few seconds and lets you overtake it at next bend.
Not only can they rocket boost past you, but they can also hit you in the back, slow down, and still rocket boost past you after they have decelerated.

Is there some jump that nobody else is using?
Yeah think there is a ramp on right side
