Even if the game used the best Ai possible they would have a Plan B for no Data available. They would use a default car setup. I’ve programmed Ai, I’ve even programmed Neural Networks which is the best Ai there is.
they wont stop crashing into me, landing on me, and knocking me into the rock piles, and most of all they keep knocking me out of bounds right the check points. what the heck!!!
That’s not happening to me. I had one bump me once in 30 hrs play.
Just do your best to avoid contact with them, they will let you win at the end anyway. They cheat, don’t have to go through checkpoints, etc. Right at the end they will split apart and slow down, just drive between them and don’t worry about beating them during the race.
I don’t know what’s been said but my biggest issue is with the cross-road events, mainly 4x4 racing trucks/pick-up trucks etc.
The AI behaves differently to everything else I’ve come across. In every other vehicle type & event, i can win fairly easy on expert with all assists off. However the cross road 4x4’s seem to be way faster then my vehicles when they’re identical. Even if i turn assists on, they just easily pull away no matter how perfectly i race. I have to turn the difficulty down 1 or 2 levels with the way they seem to have a completely unfair advantage.
So I did all dirt races including the Gauntlet today in B class against Highly Skilled. Used my B700 Pontiac GTO '65 and managed to win them all at first attempt. Now I’d consider myself a moderate driver who just got back after taking a couple months break from driving games. Was trying to race fair and avoid collisions. Used rewind occasionally when I misjudged a corner (or couldn’t see it in cockpit view due to corner placement right after jumps.
It was stressful at first: new controller (Elite2, using paddles for shifting), no route knowledge, different AI, different physics, first race was me test driving the new tune…) but got groovier as I got into the mood where driving feels grounded and relaxing.
My findings: at all starts I got outrun by all drivatars, which never happened to me in FH4.
Drivatars are incredibly fast on straights and carry way more speed through tight (90° or tighter) corners than they could in FH4 and sometimes more than I could.
Drivatars seem to brake less when approaching super tight corners, resulting in them ramming me (sometimes outright dive bombing) ever so often as I hit the brakes before corner entry.
Other than with each race start, they can be outrun in corner exits quite often but recover from such attempts quickly if a longish straight awaits after the corner.
Drivatars tend to brake irrationally at minor sweeps occasionally, where zero braking is needed and in fact full throttle would be in order instead. This can be caused by weird driving/braking lines - I wouldn’t know, never use driving or braking lines.

Tl;dr: It will take me a good while to get back to beating Unbeatable on a regular basis again.
Except the joke isn’t even funny.
On FH4 I tended to play with Unbeatable difficulty. That had its inconsistencies and problems that I wasn’t pleased with, but usually I would be competitive with first place.
On Pro, they were usually just a little too easy. I would consistently take first place before halfway through the race with no problem. Now let’s talk about Horizon 5…
It’s ridiculous how broken it is, and it doesn’t even seem to be a difficulty setting issue.
Rubberbanding is painfully obvious, seeing the Drivatar in last be capable of producing laps a whole second faster than first place.
It’s extremely inconsistent, meaning they might be uncatchable in some races, and really easy in others.
They don’t seem to notice the player car nearly as well as FH4, remaining on their line, and crashing into you despite being well on the inside of a corner.
The difficulty system sometimes seems to have no effect on the performance of the Drivatars sometimes, either. This is a BIG one. I’ve been playing on Pro, and can race for first place on most Road Race or Street Scene events (it’s still unbeatably quick sometimes). Cross Country though - which was definitely an issue in FH4 - is unbearably messed up.
I tried races in Pro, Expert, Highly Skilled, and even Above Average for some races like the Baja Scramble, and the Drivatars remained at the same difficulty at the front of the pack. The top 4 drivers were just as fast as on Unbeatable, and only the bottom pack had changed their pace. Keep in mind I always played on Unbeatable in FH4, and always play on Pro in FH5, and I was getting walked by Above Average AI.
I assume others have had issues similar to mine, but what I just experienced was game-breakingly bad. There’s been other glitches I’ve been willing to look past, but this one isn’t cool. Playground Games needs to fix it. Opinions?
You’re absolutely right. The AI in it’s current state is game breaking, at least for the racing portions of the game. Right now I’m considering just completing the non-racing portions of the game or even putting down the game entirely until it’s fixed. I don’t want to have to go through the entire game and have to worry about whether the current difficulty is even a possibility for my skill for each and every race. You should be able to set the difficulty to what you feel you’re comfortable with after a few races, and then forget it, like in FH4. It’s an absolute chore to play otherwise.
Glad I found this thread, because I was losing my mind with the AI. Agree with all what’s been said here, just wanted to add my experience into the mix.
Drove a modified S900 Huracan RWD full aero in Playa Azul Track. Got 6th place tops. On Unbeatable.
It always seemed like AI drove like hell in the straights, so decided to change the car, maybe that could help.
Drove a S900 R35 GT-R (2017), also full aero, but a bit more power, and ofc AWD. Won the race with some rewinding, but it wasn’t super hard, overtook the leading drivatar mid last lap.
Now is the best part. Won the race in GT-R in 3m:15s
Got barely 6th in Huracan in 3m:13s
I WAS 2 SEC FASTER AND COULDN’T WIN BEACUSE OF THE BROKEN AI
Playground Games, pls fix
May I add that I want hard, but fair races, and all those people who say “jUsT lOwEr YoUr DiFfIcUlTy SeTtInG” are either incredibly butthurt that someone who drives better than them finally has to strugle like them, or to stupid to realise that this is actually bad for the game itself, I don’t want to flip between difficulty settings all the time to find the perfect experience for each race.
Hello, I’ve been reading this forum a bit since FH5 was announced and released. And some are heavily arguing against the new AI levels and stuff, with some claims that seemed weird to me.
So I gave it a go, got all the accolades for beating unbeatable and now made a little Guide on how I did it. Might be helpful for some I hope:
So,
I don’t believe the Unbeatable AI is actually cheating or rubberbanding. And it is beatable in some circumstances,
Have my own theories on how the Dravatar AI actually works and how to use that to ones advantage to get all those Unbeatable Accolades.
I’m just casual player who play without problem on highly skilled difficulty on FH4 just for completing races for points in seasons, but right now I can’t even outrace anyone on this difficulty.
That’s very annoying.
FH always was for me fun arcade games, now it don’t.
They don’t care about players physics too much and it’s normal. It’s the same in other games.
I can confirm that the difficulty is very dependant from the cars used.
Today I completed all the street scene races with my A800 bone shaker with unbeatable drivatars.
I won all the races with a confortable distance.
I’m a good driver but I think that, as in FH4, the bone shaker should be banned.
I really hope they adjust the Drivatar difficulty. I played FH4 in Pro and as long as I had a tuned car I usually did not have any issues winning races, and they were competitive. Now in FH5 I’m consistently getting 4th or 5th. The 1 through 3 cars just seem way faster than me and take turns perfectly every time. When I do happen to get up into 2nd the car in front just seems way too fast to catch. I don’t get it. It’s going to be very hard to get enough points in the Playlist if I can’t win the Seasonal races in Pro.
You can’t play the seasonal races in Pro, only in Highly Skilled. The game automatically changes it.
Best drivatar for standard controller?
Mine’s set on “Average” but the drivers are all like Schumacher or Hamilton.

I have had very very mixed experiences, one map the AI seems reasonable, on the other they are absolutely mental. Ive used the same car, same tune and the race layout (mix of corners and straights) are very similar.
So I dont really know what it is but it sure seems weird to me
I have tested A and S1 races mostly with drivatar difficulty of Unbeatable, Pro, and Highly skilled.
I’m quite new to Forza Horizon series. I started FH4 with steam release and I’ve being playing it since 2021 April. Within 4-5 months, I was able to turn off all the assists. except steering - normal, driving line and damage. I used to play against unbeatable AI and win all the races, also achieved the horizon superstar by completing all the star cards. I didn’t to much ranked races because my rank was bugged. It always resets to lvl10 even though I won the race.
Few days ago, I started to play FH5 with the same difficulty level and assists. It was way more harder than I expected. Unbeatable & Pro AI have a huge speed boost, more lateral Gs and breaking power. Catching up with the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place AI is really tough. Even with perfect cornering and breaking it’s lot more harder to win. I also tried to cut through corners and use a better line than AI, which I usually do in online adventure. But I could clearly see that, each time I try to take the better line, the AI whose in front of me getting a speed boost. This was very significant in road and street races.
But weirdly, It’s not that much tough in cross country and dirt races. I was able to beat unbeatable AI. But it was inconsistent. Sometimes I had to retry the race couple of times. The crazy thing is, if I lose the race in my first attempt and retry, it will be quite easy to beat the AI in the second attempt. For now, I turned the difficulty to expert.
