One of my habits on FM6 (all previous Forza titles as well), is to paint the car to match one you have seen in real life.
Does anyone else do this or am I just that weird?

Nope, you are not weird, I do it all the time, I will update this reply with a pic when I get in from work, as an example ![]()
I normally use color schemes close to or replicating the race livery it is most famous for if it’s got a history in motorsports, ie) a warsteiner E30 or a black and silver monte carlo
Not so much real cars, but many cars in Forza have been the inspiration or actual model used for many cars in movies/tv shows. I’ve done few paints such as:
FM4 had the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado, which has the same body as the Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1. (The car in the movie is a Miller-Meteor ambulance which was built with the same body panels as an Eldorado)
FM4 also had the 1980 Lotus Esprit, which has a similar body to the submarine car James Bond used in The Spy Who Loved Me. (The car in the movie is a 1976 Lotus Esprit S1)
The 1980 Esprit was also the model the 1980’s Inspector Gadget car was based off of.
The 1987 Pontiac Trans-Am Firebird has been featured in many Forza games. (A black 1987 Trans-Am served as the computerized car “Kit” in the TV show Knight Rider)
The 1982 DeLorean DMC-12 has been in Forza 3 and 4. (The DMC-12 was the time machine in the Back to the Future movies)
A staple of the Forza franchise, the 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno is the car Takumi drives in the Japanese manga and anime Initial D.
The original Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles TV show Turtle Van was based off of a 1966 VW Type 2 bus.
And just for fun I painted a Lamborghini Countach as an A-Wing from Star Wars.
There is also a live action Initial D if anyone is interested. It doesn’t Use CGI, It’s all proper drivers, proper drifting. Great movie.
But yeah, i’ll paint cars i’ve seen, but for me it’s either touring cars, weird designs i’ve seen, or the old subtle paint, where i want to match a colour. There’s a guy round here with a plum coloured Ford Focus. It looks so nice. Bright purple, but just looks so smooth and clean. My wife got me to match it. I’ll have to see if i’ve got it transferred to 6 yet.
Glad Im not the only person that does this haha. Maybe I will start posting up photos where I recreate a shot of a car I have seen and photographed.
I sometimes do this as well, but more for picking a manufacturer colour.
Back in 4 I had the 1992 Supra done up pixel perfect to my real life one, it was great
I would totally do it in 6 if it were to ever come back to the series
I tend to do retro designs from Aussie touring cars back in the 80’s…
Here’s my Peter Brock Holden Torana (but on the Abarth Fiat cause I didn’t have a Torana to play with)…
Good stand in for a Torana!
The Vauxhall Lotus Carlton could stand in for a VN Commodore, they’re closely related …
An opinion for another thread, but the Torana would be such a great addition in one of the car packs… imagine the battles with the XB Falcon at Bathurst
I do this for all the cars I have owned, and also for cars my friends and family have owned.
Brings back some good memories and also lets me do things that I could not do with them IRL (upgrades, tweaks, drive them on the Nurburgring etc). I think having my RL cars in these games is what drew me in to begin with, back when Gran Turismo was released.
Now they even have tracks in the game that some of us get to drive as well.
I have taken some of my cars to Bathurst, but I get to drive them a lot quicker in FM6, as there is frequently a Highway Patrol car sitting on Conrod Straight or there are school buses driving the opposite direction
It’s way more of a public road than the Nurburgring.
If I was not able to connect with these games, with cars I could relate to, I’m confident I wouldn’t get into them at all.
My 88 VW is painted to look just like the one I owned from 2000 to 2008.
My CRX and '77 Trans Am are painted to look like cars my friend Kevin had.
My foxbody Mustang looks like my cousin’s car, and my Escalade looks like my uncle’s (her father’s).
No, I’d say you’re in good company, sir.
I only use manufacturer colors.
