December Car Pack Thoughts?

As a Ultimate Edition owner, you’re very right and I feel this way too now.

November & now December put me off set with the future of this series. Is the car pass only for old ported cars, and reskins of current cars now? Cars like the Huarya BC, M4 GTS, Viper ACR, and honestly now the AMG GT R should’ve been in the game from launch. These cars are not at all very different from the cars already existing from launch. Simply updated/limited versions. That’s it. The October pack, while not very diverse. The only car that was an “update” version of a Vanilla car was the Huayra BC. I had zero issue with that because the rest of the entire pack wasn’t a port-fest and things were actually new. A bunch of my friends including myself were happy to see what the future holds with it the very day the October pack dropped. This attitude has changed for us.

Paid Car-port+vanilla reskin packs are normally what made me sour with Horizon 1, and these reskins are seemingly becoming the packs themselves as the Car Pass moves along. If you look at it also in a way, the Expansion Pack cars for Blizzard Mountain… are reskins/remodels which are two Lancia’s and the F100 we already have. To fear, if guessing the 2nd expansion pack is indeed a Porsche “car-pack IE more than 7 cars” Expansion… i’m sure we’ll see the same Porsche’s from Horizon 2 at this point.

I desperately want to see this game, with it’s DLC plans, to stop reaching back and dipping to already exists. Make the paid car packs something brand new and exciting every month. Even if they have to hold back some content… which i’m sure most of these Car Pass Packs are anyway far before the game even launches.

That’s what is on my mind, and how I feel about it. I love Forza to death. But surprise me, and others of the community with actual new things - you’ll have a different reaction from your paid users and community.

I know this is all personal opinion.

I think your definition of what is a reskin is way too wide.

The cars in the Blizzard Expansion are way different from their base models and in some cases the base model is not the one already in the game anyway (AFAIK).

I built, tuned, tested and retuned the AMG GTs. I expected them to be similar but to me they are different enough, it is not like they have identical stats with just a different year.

I believe overall they should be praised for a move away from rehashed cars and towards new stuff. Obviously now they have shown signs it is not a 100% move but maybe that is because of cars requested in the wishlist to make a comeback.

On top of that the F-100 isn’t even a reskin, its an entirely different year.

Opinions and feedback are always welcome. But I feel compelled to chime in when folks post things that just aren’t based in fact. Two things come to mind:

  1. “reaching back and dipping” - Every car released in monthly DLC thus far in FH3 is new to Forza, new to this gen, and/or listed in the community top 100 wish list tabulated by ManteoMax for us last year when we deliberately set out to learn exactly which cars the community wanted most. Below, you’ll see how many of these cars have been ticked off the list in the first 3 months of DLC alone. There are still 3 months of packs in the Car Pass to come, and it’s a good bet more cars from that list may find their way into these packs.
  2. As for holding back content from the main game to put in DLC later? We shipped every single car in the base game that we could by launch. One that didn’t get done in time to make launch, the 1994 Nissan S14 the community has been asking for since FM4, we chose to include for free as a #Forzathon reward car. A couple of others we originally intended to include in the base have found their way into the game as free DLC barn finds.

So, to thing #1, let’s examine the first 3 months of DLC to see what “reaching back and dipping” we did versus building what the community literally asked us to build

OCTOBER
-2016 Aston Martin Vulcan (New to Franchise, community top 100 wish list)
-2000 Lotus 340R (New to Franchise)
-2016 Pagani Huayra BC (New to Franchise, community top 100 )
-2010 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (New to Franchise, community top 100 - and cop lights!)
-2016 Spania GTA GTA Spano (New to Franchise)
-2016 BMW M2 Coupe (New to Franchise, community top 100)
-1976 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade (New to Franchise, and just the right car for the outback if you ask me)

NOVEMBER
-2017 Acura NSX (New to Franchise, community top 100)
-1998 Nissan Silvia K’s (New to this gen, community top 100 list - “Where’s my S14? Where’s JDM???” posts, we even rolled out a free 1994 S14, and both came with different wide body kits)
-1990 Mazda Savannah RX-7 (New to this gen, community top 100 list - “Where’s my FC??? Where’s JDM???” posts - and a widebody kit too)
-1967 Ford Falcon XR GT (New To Franchise, pretty much all generations of Falcons are in the community top 100 list)
-2016 Dodge Viper ACR (New to Franchise, community top 100 list) - yes, there’s a base 2013 Viper GTS in the game, but saying they’re the same is like saying a Hellcat is like an R/T, or a NISMO GT-R is the same as a base GT-R. Remember the “Where’s my Hellcat???” posts? This is why we make cars like these.
-2016 BMW M4 GTS (New to Franchise - and kind of like the above statement, is not your stock M4)
-1979 Talbot Lotus Sunbeam (New To Franchise)

DECEMBER
-2015 Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept (New to Franchise)
-1965 Pontiac GTO (New to this generation, Community Top 100, and an answer to “Where’s the Muscle Cars???” posts)
-2017 Jaguar F-PACE S (New to Franchise, new in the real world too)
-1996 HSV GTSR (New to Franchise, and because ‘STRAYA)
-2014 Morgan 3 Wheeler (New to Franchise)
-2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R (New to Franchise, new in the real world too)
-1992 Toyota Supra 2.0 GT Twin Turbo (New to this gen, community Top 100, another JDM classic, and with a widebody kit. Yeah, the round brake light clusters aren’t lighting up the square lens cover properly - sorry about that, we’ll look into fixing it. A lot of effort went into up-rezzing this car, but this old bug still got through).

It’s certainly expected that not every pack has every car everyone wants - can’t imagine that will ever happen- and the forums are a place where everyone can freely praise or complain about each pack…but you can’t say we’re not giving the community the cars they’ve been asking for.

So far I have bought 1 car from 3 car packs - The Morgan (and nearly bought the 2 Aussie cars). Even so, I can’t complain about the variety offered just because most of the content doesn’t appeal to me personally. There’s no justification in complaining because what’s offered doesn’t appeal to you. Jonk and team, keep pumping out the Aussie content and I’ll be a happy camper indeed.

P.S - The Morgan is slow, but a real joy to drive.

Cheers, for providing clarity.

I am very aware I hold a season/expansion pass and I am not going to get the cars/content I want, but as the community want them. But there was a lot of, “Hey AMG-GT R… why use the AMG GT S anymore? It’s not far from the default stat but with a adjustable default aero.” M4-M4 GTS & Viper-Viper ACR were felt about this too, although I prefer the non-ACR Viper personally. This sort of thing.

I’m going to go back playing the game. Look forward to the next 3 months and technically both expansions then. Cheers again JONK1969 for the quality post response.

Jonk, thanks for chiming in. Just a quick question, what is preventing DLC in Forza Horizon 3 to be released on FM6? I know nothing of the programming, dev part, so thought I’d ask.
Any new DLC for FM6 is welcome in my opinion, what better way than to make them available for both titles. (and not to confuse anyone, buy once, enjoy in both titles) This would also stop any “this car was in FM5 or FM6, DLC in Horizon??” type posts.

Licensing issues most likely, along with the fact that Forza 6 is no longer being supported.

Hey 10! Packs are cool, even that i don’t like some of the cars. What about FH3 PC performace fix? and patch notes for updates?

Wow, very well written. It seems like the community is getting what they’ve been asking for. Just not as quickly as one had wanted, but we can’t please everyone so may as well enjoy the game for the greatness it already is (minus the bugs lol).

Did you know, some people have differing opinions? And the morgan is 2-3 years old not 70, and its beautiful.
I think T10/PG are doing extremely well. If the follow this format, an austrailian car, a quirky car, and offroader/suv, a performance car, jdm, etc, they cover a large audience well and give sone people a chance to broaden their tastes. Good work guys, you have done well

Somewhere in Byron Bay there is a street race at night and as I started it I pulled to the left to get past traffic and low and bold standing in the street, not the pavement, was a person that I ran into, yes, ran into. The impact was of a soft thud and sparks flew but the person remained unmoved and unhindered ! LOL! I have to locate it and make a small clip of the situation. Is this something new or has this always existed?

Whereabouts in Byron Bay was this?

Wow, the salt on here is real. Can’t you kiddos calm down?

I’ve been with the series since Forza 4 which arguably had the best DLC in the entire franchise- 12 packs of 10 100% new to the franchise cars each, plus Porsche, free Viper and Hyundais too.

I also was around to see the DLC from the first Horizon which was 75% rehashes of cars that were in FM4, probably the worst DLC for these games (though maybe it’s tied with FM5, which was similar).

The DLC we’ve had for FH3 so far has been okay. Actually I’d say that the first few packs were really good, giving people cars that were high-rating on the wishlists for ages. GTA Spano, Vulcan, Crown Vic, NSX, S14 Kouki, CJ5.

In my opinion (three very important words) this pack is less exciting than the first two. But I don’t take it as some sign that from here on out the DLC is going to be garbage. Far from it. We know many of the cars that are coming as DLC- check the “complete car list” stickied at the top of the forum. I know I’ve got some favorites in the pipeline. I don’t see how this pack has inspired such vitriol, maybe not so much in this thread but in some of the others.

I didn’t get everything I want for Xmas, but I thought this was a pretty good car pack. It had a little for, if not everybody, most people. I prefer my tricycles to be more prone to rollovers, but hey …

I do agree about the tire widths of classic muscle cars. With the games PI system, upgrading a front tire width costs a lot of PI, and a big, powerful car like the GTO sitting on 195s up front just doesn’t look right. I think I may have to sacrifice performance to not have to look at those skinny, skinny tires.

I like redskins, best candy ever

So far I have found at least three cars I sort of enjoyed that came in this pack which was the Supra, GTO and the Commodore Despite the fact it looks like something a young Australian did to his parents Commodore after watching the first Fast and Furious.

The Morgan and the others weren’t my cup of tea but I guess someone out there probably liked them.

I like most of these, but I dunno how the off-road supra made it past anyone internally with that ride height. Real shame because I really like the car, and the widebody is otherwise cool and acceptable to me, but why must it come with a ride height increase?

It’s doing nothing to help my theory that turn10 and PG both just target cars I like specifically when they’re looking to make mistakes, lol. At least it looks good without the kit, too

Instead of complaining or writing an essay about it I’ll keep it short and sweet.

Nothing in this pack interested me whatsoever.

It seems you guys aren’t satisfied by nearly anything.
