Would love to see the Avanzato R, or the crazy AWD R4 model, which comes with optional LSDs and bunch of other crazy things (Avanzato R could also be had with front LSD). It´s really a rally car for the road, and 100 were imported into the UK, of which 20 have been used in Motorsport, also in rallying! It’s so small and light around the 700-800kg mark, and thanks to a low final drive ratio and optimized gearing it was .1 seconds faster from 0-60 than a 306 GTI, and about the same 0-60 time as a Turbo Golf GTi at that time. It’s so small and literally fun at any speed, like all kei cars. This is still one of the fastest kei cars, as weight had increased today but power limits weren’t increased to match the (still slight) weight increase. This gen of the Mira kept the general design of the previous L200 series, but with a more rounded look and (possibly) increased safety (weight has increased slightly as well, as well as height and wheelbase by a bit, but others remain unchanged). The 90s were the “peak” of kei cars, with real battles between the manufacturers. every possible tech has been crammed in these lil nuggets to make them faster, corner better, and whatever else. The TR possibly stands for “Turbo Racer/Racing”, the XX for something along the lines of extra or extra extra, the “Avanzato” was a better equipped version (Italian for “Advanced”. The car was called the Cuore instead of the Mira in export markets, which is italian for “Heart”, while Mira is latin and stands for something along the lines of practical), and the R for Rally/Race, and 4 for AWD. There was another trim level with a Turbo in this gen, the CL Turbo, which (possibly) wasn’t as sporty, but featured similar power figures. The TR-XX had a 4cyl Turbo instead of a 3cyl, called the JB-JL Turbo. The 3 cylinder turbo from the previous gen was taken over to other turbo models. Production ended in 1998, while it was sold till 2012 in Pakistan as the Cuore. Export markets generally received bigger 847cc ED engines, which weren’t turbocharged and produced around 49HP in their most powerful version.
