No matter what I do, I cannot get the controls to revert to default. My son wants to play the game and he needs it to be in automatic. When I try anything, restarting, any various default options, anything at all it just stays in manual mode. Can anyone help me with this situation?
You need to go into settings and change the difficulty option for shifting to automatic. Changing the controller scheme will only alter the button bindings.
Shifting Mode, Traction Control, Stability Management, Antilock Brake Systems, Braking and Steering Assists, and AI Difficulty are found in the Difficulty Settings.
Control Bindings - such as which button is used to shift, or what you press to change camera view - are found under the Controls icon.
