This might be old…sorry but I am unable to move forward. I go to the festival and it tells me the championships are unavailable. How do infix this?

If you are very early in the game you may need to run the first Showcase event before it will let you resume running championships.
You may already be in the middle of a Championship and don’t know it. Look at the map of the festival and try and locate pink icons that represents incomplete Championship races (they should in proximity of each other). You have to finish those races first for the Championship icon to be made available.
The only pink icon is the festival. When I go there is where it tells me "championships unavailable. "
