I agree with the OP that the career mode is not so much a career as it is a series of events related y car type or restriction. I also agree with others that the sense of completion of career mode is the thing that keeps me coming back. I’m not a big fan of online racing, too much drama, so single player is where I spend the most of my time. The Grid series tried to make a more engaging career mode and it is not all that different. Project Cars also tried more of a “real” career and it is much more of a grind than Forza in my opinion. In the end you get out of it what you are willing to put into it and no one is forced to buy or play any game if they are not enjoying it. There is a demo, it is an ok sample, the mods have possibility, there is league play and there is always the self imposed challenges to make your driving experience different. I’m looking forward to trying to acquire all the cars and reaching max affinity level for as many car companies before the next game catches my eye.
Yeah, a racing game where its all racing … I just dont know. I mean where is the platformy bits or the boss battles …and I still havent found out how to equip guns. Its almost like they went out of their way to make it all about cars and racing.
To be honest both schools of thought have valid and pertinent points. I think it’s a grind to many as they set the difficulty at a level they will win every race. I raced the demo in everything from newcomer to unbeatable and was chuffed with 14th place in Unbeatable
At the same time it is surprising that an arcade racer like Forza Horizon 2 has series championships and Forza 6 doesn’t. That really doesnt make much sense to me.
To be honest I found the career mode in FH2 far more of a grind than FM4.
Probably in a minority of one here but I quite liked the season mode in Forza 4, a nice mix up of races. The only annoying issue was that shine of them weren’t on the events list so didn’t get ticked off.
FH2’s one gets so boring after a while because its always set races in each location and you cant even choose what race you want. Add the fake award ceremonies and it gets boring quickly, online is why I pretty much play it to get to 999 lol.
But yea I liked Fm4’s one too, for example races with just cars from 1970’s or something, similar to FH1 where only FWD Hot hatches or 60’s cars were allowed, that was good fun imo, rather than just championships
Exactly. Forza 5’s “championship series” where a joke. You race in 10 events (sometimes having a “special event”) and get paid a credit bonus for finishing the series. Didn’t matter if you were in the top three in each race or dead last. And it’s not like you got a bigger reward for a series with a higher car class. I don’t care if the series is three races long, I don’t car if it’s twenty races. If it’s a championship series, let’s see some points, a credit payout that differs for each position, a final credit payout set by your final points position. It’s no wonder when I went back to Forza 3’s season play to raise my funds to get a higher amount of credits for Forza 6, I was actually enjoying myself. Third is great, second is nice, but first is winning.
Setting the difficulty level to something that is comfortable at first and then pushing it on a couple of notches works for me. I find having to restart races several times actually takes away the grind. I also found in FM5 that the drivatars often behaved better on a higher difficulty setting.
I’m hoping that the series championships in 6 are a bit more like FH2. If i want to do a “sports coupe” championship i dont want to be confined to only using one PI class or finding the only alternative is a catchall event with different car types in.
Racing does include points leaderboards / Championships ect ect the op makes a very valid post and a moderator responds with that.
Me I never see forza as a simulation of real life racing just way to many factors missing so it doesn’t bother me anymore, Forza is more about mainstream than true motorsport and I cool with that it’s fun.
Boss battles I don’t know about but while your on the subject at least we now have power ups.
Nope … you dont have to do anything except finish in the top 3 and then you just simply move to the next race and do it again . When youve finished a series it just simply puts a tick in the corner and says complete …THATS IT ! Each race has no bearing on the other and theres nothing to win atall except a bit of xp and credit after each one . Thers no Gold …Silver or broze for coming 1st 2nd or 3rd … No championship to win …No trophies …No Nothing . You may aswell just be playin free play …From what i can see , Theres absolutely no difference .
Forza 5’s career felt dull but that’s because it was laid out too simply. Like “here’s a body style, here’s a bunch of races for that body style” and that’s it.
FM6’s looks more interesting, especially with the addition of showcases. I just hope you actually need to win races to get top rewards in this rather than just finish in the top three, like FM5.
I don’t particularly enjoy driving in the RACE classes. If I were a pro racer, I would likely stay in the lower classes, simply out of enjoyment, rather than the paycheck.
The same applies to the game for me.
I have yet to finish the career in FM4 and FM5, simply due to the upper tiers of the career, requiring that I stick it out with RACE cars for so many races. I could care less if these cars are the best in the world, I want to enjoy racing, I don’t want to feel stressed playing a game. These cars have such a stressful existence, The fun slips away, the second you hear the 11k whine from the engines.
To this day, I find these cars to have the most annoying sound in the world, simply because of the stressfulness of driving them.
I think some people are missing the point as to what people, myself included, are missing from a “career” mode. In Forza 5 you would be rewarded with a gold medal for finishing 3rd. That doesn’t give me the incentive to go and race for the win. Especially when you consider that each even is just a standalone entity. Your result in event A has no baring on event B, C, D etc. You basically are just in free play, racing multiple events in succession. What is missing is a structured championship. A collection of races where points are awarded based on your finishing position, giving you the opportunity to battle with your opponents over a number of races, not just one at a time.
Personally my favorite style of career racing was the Forza 3/4 Event List option, I wish we would see that return- there were so many races to choose from.
