Car Divisions & Homologation

Motorworldhype’s video of the car list shows the Ferrari 375 in The Birth of Grand Prix which makes me think the Alfa 158 will be there too, but it’s clear they didn’t have the final build, so things could be changed.

Ah. I saw the “presumably” line next to the car, so figured it wasn’t confirmed.

If the Ferrari is in there, then it’s more than likely that the Alfa will be too. Though I think it’d make more sense for those 2 to be in their own division.

I believe that the new system is gonna be really nice with more than just PI hoppers but also car class hoppers, the only issue i can see with this is the forza horizon S2 PI issue, that being that 80% of the players only race in S2 class and no one in D class for example.

I’m afraid a class like hypercars or supercars is gonna be extremely populated but slower classes will be really empty.

Sounds good on paper. I am looking forward to this, the old method wasn’t working any more.

I think that it is an interesting attempt.
Online will create leaderboards with more opportunities for a wider variety of cars, and in the private lobby it will allow more different possible races.
It is one of the elements I have been waiting for.
However, I’m stumped that they applied this system to single play.

What I recall is the unfriendly career mode of FM6.
The PI of the race did not know until purchasing a car, and most of the cars already upgraded in the garage could not be used with that.

They probably make a proper explanation in the game, and my worry will be not necessary. I want to believe so.
However, it takes a little time to organize emotions.

I get the impression that Car Divisions will be the primary focus of Multiplayer Hoppers, and not open Classes like before. That plus Homologation (if Turn 10 got their balance numbers right for each car) could mean that there is no such thing as a “Leaderboard Car” in Multiplayer Hoppers.

Rivals will likely be Class-based so expect Leaderbard Cars there, but with Hoppers focusing on Divisions we should see less people complaining about car balance in general.

I am super unsure about this. I am just worried that we will not be allowed to use the cars we want to use and tune them the way we want and mod them the way we want either. Maybe i wanna ride through career in my slammed 400hp civic? Lol.

Also by the looks of these divisions you can BET YOUR SWEET JIFFY none of the Hoonigan cars will be usable, same with none of the “funky” cars and half the DLC cars from FM6 which were not usable in FM6 career mode. I swear if they do this again I’m going to be upset…let me sodding race what I WANT.

Anyone who has raced at TORA might be familiar with this, since it’s similar to the events they’ve run with open builds that have certain part restrictions or ranges for power and weight.

I thought one example of homologation would equalize performance of our GTLM cars to match the GT3 cars in the game (Corvette GTLM, Huracan Super Trofeo, and Mercedes SLS AMG would all be able to play nice), but nope…

The good news is that this (with leagues or specific hoppers using homologations) might force people to drive something besides the same 2-3 cars online all the time and get exploring the other 700 cars in the game.

I DO however really like that it kinda forces people to use more cars like you said, so many players are sticking to 2 or 3 cars and would never try something new

Having trawled though the car list I am pretty disappointed to actually find so few cars I’m keen on driving. I’ve been playing this sort of game (and more defined motorsport games) since 1997. I remain unconvinced at this time that the multihopper ‘douche’ tunes and leaderboard cars won’t rapidly materialise. I can see myself playing the game but whether it delivers the longevity of FM4 is something I will judge as we go.

I like road cars because they are vastly more popular in motorsport. By this I mean all the club racing and more minor series that exist around the world. Trying to cater to every topline taste is a fools errand because you can’t offer the depth for any of them really. I mean you have one, one! F1 car from Renault. Yet the company has been building serious hot hatches and quick cars for decades. Almost none of them are represented in the game. Five or six years ago T10 had it nailed leading the car game market. Sadly someone parked it down Dodgy street and now its sitting on four piles of bricks. This is my opinion and I know many will disagree.

Sounds interesting. I hope we can downgrade certain cars such as the FXX K or P1 GTR to allow them to compete in R class and such, that would be neat.

How would you propose downgrading them?

Some of the tuning option on certain cars had a restrictor plate option as an example only say the restrictor plate lowers the HP by 125 so you loose 40 PI. That may put it in a lower class and still let you add a few add on’s till that class is maxed out still being below the original class.

my only concern is whether I will be able to do all races in stock cars, I don’t like upgrading cars in racing games

Free-play seems pretty refined this time around, you can choose PI ranges, allow upgrades, weather patterns, etc, so you can play the game how you want.

It doesn’t seem like it, but then again we don’t know for sure.

If this means Frankencars/missile builds are banished from public hoppers it’ll be one of the best ideas Turn10 ever came up with.

I guess overall I like this, even though it’s not quite as I’d imagined it. I was hoping there would be a nod to homologation IRL, wherby certain production cars get turned into race cars by meeting specific requirements; something more along the lines of “Works” conversions in Shift 2 Unleashed. This seems a little more like a effort from T10 to curb missile tunes, P800 Vipers and the like.

They already gave us a whole pack of frankencars with the Hoonigan pack.

I like the game, but am a little nostalgic about starting with my Civic EG in D spec, and building it for S spec races, but this way I will try the rest of the cars. Although it would have been nice to simply have a Homologation button-Off Option

I’m really thrilled by this. It should theoretically solve the P and GT class problems.
