Car Divisions & Homologation

The ability to upgrade your car from one class to another has been severely nerfed in FM7. You can still do the upgrades, but in most cases, even minor upgrades will quickly take your car out of the homologation division it is currently in. There are currently no places to race cars outside of their homologation division aside from free play, and I think, one hopper.

So, no you aren’t stupid, and there’s no secret - the core of Forza is not present in FM7. Homologation would have been a nice addition to FM7, but for some reason Turn10 seems to think that homologation should be the only game in town. This is the primary reason I refunded my copy of FM7.

If you upgrade your car, you will have to keep it in the homologation guidelines or you cannot race it in that division. There are “open” races in career though, that you can run any car as long as it is in that class I believe

Once your car exceeds the homologation limits for its body style it will be ineligible to race in its class. It can be used in the A class hopper online and in free play. Most cars have various upgrade paths available that keep them within their Homologated class. I was able to fit the Raptor race truck with the NASCAR V8 and still run it in the trophy trucks championships. Not every car can handle engine swaps but a lot can without breaking the division restrictions. Get used to using street tires on almost everything unless it’s a race car.

If you go to upgrade an set default on the cars you buy, you can build the car yourself. I do with every car and most of them have enough room to fiddle about and normally I manage to get the car build as I want.

No sure what you mean by set default. I essentially baught a car choosing stock upgrades. As soon as I added a turbo or upgraded mani, I was promoted by the ever familiar orange warning that pops up notifying me of a break in the class/group.

I get the homologation for specific classes but I would still like to race a C class car in a higher class by upgrading the car.

It just doesn’t seem very well thaught out.

I like the new system, it means the tune is now the key to a quick car not just a stupid list if upgrades, bolted to a landy 90 or a bloody Jeep.

Makes for great close racing in the same way leagues have strict PI and upgrades, this makes it about the driver.

I like the new system too especially for online play, career mode not so much. BUT, I would like rooms where you CANT use leaderboard tunes and find out who can actually tune their own rides

Sure, it would make for a great option. Not the only way to play. Upgrading out of class has been a Forza staple. IMHO, it’s a defining feature of what makes a Forza Motorsport game something other than a generic racing game.

I agree with you regarding the game being more about the player, but I would have liked a little more freedom when choosing cars and being able to cross classes by adding upgrades, especially in story mode.

The homologation group is certainly a great addition but as previous posts have said, it shouldn’t restrict the game.

So, still no news on if this would ever be fixed? I’m still holding out on buying this game because of this and a few other things…

wouldnt it be better?
for example have looked to the Nostalgic Drag Racers group with 7cars in it
1 in E-Class
5 in D-Class
1 in C-Class
but they have all to be homologated to B-Class
so i think some of them would be a bit overtuned or not? the E one
in this group there are not much cars as in others but wouldnt it be better to race E vs E, C vs C, D vs D. so they could get more races in career and we could drive more different cars
then it dont have to be such restricted and the cars could be tuned to the max of each Class like in older Forzas without getting overpowerd or under stocked
or E to D and so on but not E to B; in other groups there are cars like the Civic with an extra to turn down the power of the Motor so its lower than in stock just to race in the restricted group😔
then there are the old cars with white rings on tires i like them but when they get homolgatet they are gone cause the race tires havnt the rings and you cant take the stock tires cause of the restriction to the race tires

I have a unique way of breaking down the divisions in this game. I’m not a fan of some of the arbitrary names that were used, so I decided to come up with my own system using acronyms, much like how racing classes are named irl. First, I group divisions that have similar overall performance attributes and body styles, like formula cars and offroad vehicles. Then, I order them by PI index. For example, Sport Coupes are in a similar division, but perform better than Vintage Sport Coupes, so I label them SC1 & SC2 respectively.

I realize there are a few in this list I could name differently, but this is how it makes the most sense in my mind:

I much prefer the flexibility of the FM6 class system to the Fm7 homologation system. The new system is far more restrictive and stiffles creativity and variety. Please bring back more class hoppers and the ABC’S. I’m deeply unsatified with the hologation system.

I don’t mind the homologation system, but it was poorly executed. There should be both homologation divisions and the regular PI class based divisions. The glaring issue in all this is the absence of hotlapping in Rivals. We need the FM4 system back where leaderboards were abundant. The game should be centered around upgrading and tuning cars so one can attempt to post the fastest lap possible. That is what Motorsports is about. Overall leaderboards, class overall and track specific leaderboards, and homologation division overall and track specific leaderboards should all be present in this game. The decisions T10 continue to make with each iteration of FM leaves me dumbfounded at times. Stop fixing what isn’t broken and removing core features…

So far the most asinine of all is the Prototype Race Group where 60’s prototypes race against Can Am cars. You can limit Can Am horsepower to ludicrous low levels but those HUGE WINGS and dive planes are still there and WORKING! Seems mighty unfair to the poor Ford GT or Ferrari P4 driver who has less horsepower AND no wings.

This is one of the disadvantages to the system they’re using right now; cars are competing with others they were never meant to irl. This is most glaring in the Forza GT division where you have about a half-dozen racing series represented. I also feel this is why the Audi R8/Bentley Speed 8 prototypes were cut. They are too new for Early Prototype Racers, but too old for Forza P1. The way they’ve grouped most of the production classes is fine though.

I believe all divisions should have multiple class restrictions where possible. For example, Major Micros only allows a PI of E250. I think if you exceed that, the game should be able to bump you up to a higher restriction, like D400 etc. It would at least diminish some of the limiting factors of the current system.

I also agree that open classes should be available everywhere as they have been from the beginning of Forza time.

So how many of us are out there? How many people feel like homologated divisions is a better way of doing things than the class based system seen in previous forza games? Seems like homologated divisions is only lambasted but I want T10 to know (I’m certain they’ll never read this) that there’s people out there that’s all in favour and absolutely prefer this. I can still do everything I love doing in forza. Namely upgrading and tuning a car to get the most from it and then running it on some leaderboards. Now it just all feels more close, real and just better. I can’t see any reason why people can’t enjoy the game as they always have. Now rather than choosing your favourite class choose your favourite division. There’s other problems with the game for sure but with regards to homologated divisions vs classes…imo T10 has done a good thing in forza 7.

That said, there is no reason really why they can’t do both at the same time.

I love the homologation system. But you should have the choice!
