It gave a purpose to earning more credits, trying out one off builds and gifting cars. I was annoyed at first but still buy auto show cars for duplicates and gifts.
Also AH is a reliable quick way for some players to make profit for people who didn’t get the early game wheel spins and superwheelspins. People happily pay more via AH than Autoshow so one can theoretically build towards the accolade whilst boosting credits.
It doesn’t take very long to buy a ton of the cheapest car in-game (a Ford Mustang for 15k) if you buy from the Car Collection section… Then again, what’s not very long for me could be an eternity for others. LOL
I think it does as a mate of mine was doing it last week.
Can’t say for sure though as I already own them all just through regular gameplay.

The only missing accolade I see is for the 150 cars.
Where is the need 400 coming from ?

Buying 250 cars was nothing… still haven’t figured out the buying or selling a multi-million car through Auction.
So the Sold Out accolade changes from just completing the Bulk Buying one to get another 250 ?
Just used a mate to do that - bought one for 20M, sold it to him for 20M then he sold it for 20M.
Both of us now sorted.
There should be one that is greyed out with the description saying to complete the 150 cars first.
Yeah - that’s the Sold Out one that’s grayed out. didn’t realise it wanted even more after just saying complete the other one.

bought one at the AH for 20m and started a new 20m auction for it right away
it was sold after a few minutes
an other funny thing: I already got the “Complete all Car Collector Accolades”-accolade in the hall of fame section while the “buy 400 cars”-accolade in the car collection section is still unfinished
at some point i got this achievement but i don’t recall how. i have a habit of buying new cars when i get an idea for a different tuning build. or sometimes i’ll reverse engineer someone else’s tune to see if i can improve upon it with a new car (easy to see what parts they used for the tune as nothing else is owned). after a while when i grow tired of a particular car i’ll either sell or gift it and start fresh with a new one. easy to rack up the buys this way, although i’m not getting rich in game credits by doing so…
I guess I was lucky, and a little obsessive compulsive 
After I had my original owner keepers from the autoshow I kept grinding away early in the game anytime I got a few creds together. Back in the day when you could buy a cheap Willys Jeep and throw some quick skill mastery in it for a wheelspin lol. Then trash them and go again. Usually in multiples of 10 with the quick buy button.
It was still a gawdawful pointless grind. Why did they think it was a good idea ? Oh yeah, player “engagement”… I keep forgetting 
so im going to finish this accolade are there any cars left in the autoshow with a wheelspin perk reasonable priced. i mean if i have to buy 400 cars there should be at least one or two cars worth buying here or do i have to keep buying the SVO and waste 3 mil
Frankly, wheelspins are a waste of time, really. You could, but I wouldn’t. Just buy the cheapest autoshow car of your choice, in the Car Collection menu (going from memory), using the Y to buy (on Xbox) without going through the longer process. Buy in lots of 5, or 10, or whatever you’re comfortable with clogging up your garage at a time and have money to spare. Then go into garage and just remove from garage. Rinse and repeat. Anything else is really a waste of your time. You’re going to hate it anyway, long before you’re done lol.
yeah i just went with the SVO. the wheelspins may not be worth it but with the game more or less giving away cars having to buy 400 from the autoshow there is no incentive to buy 400 other than the accolade so if there was a cheap car or 2 or 3 that sell for like 30,000 ish credits that gave a wheelspin or gave you 75,000 cr perk. i can see doing this perk as worth it.
i had 215 cars bought previous to this post and using the SVO as my car of choice i bought 185 of them cost roughly 3 mil in credits. So it would be nice to get something out of it other than an accolade
edit: i did forget u get the D-Type from the accolade but still give us bone
I just bought 80 2007 Honda Civic Type Rs. No clue why, I already had the rest of the cars.

Also completed this accolade recently, using the SVO method.
I find the limit to be excessive given the way the game is designed.
I play with the personal goal to win as many cars as possible and avoid buying stuff in the AH and AS if I can help it. I’ve been here since Pre, and as of the time I went to complete this accolade, I had only purchased 170 cars from the autoshow, and almost all of those were for gifts during various events, and or duplicates for certain challenges because I didn’t want to mess with my current car. Only in a few cases did I need to purchase a car from the AH or AS I did not have already.
I would posit that 200 cars would be the perfect spot to put this. And as I recall, it was bumped because of the Willys exploit when everyone was buying the willys for spins, so if you want to blame someone…
