Breaking from Top Speed

Hi Forza guys/girls,

I’m hoping to get some advise on how soon to brake/change to a lower gear when on top speed on a straight (6th gear most times & on the e.g. Yas Marina Track) and approaching a bend. I almost always crash or shift down to early before the bend and other cars are flying past.

  1. I always seem to spin off the road when on some decent speed (5th gear) trying to make slight turns at bends. I use a controller for now and only light move the stick when turning . Is the best way around it to gear shift to a lower gear and slow down? etc.

Thanks.

Are you swinging out before the turn to shift down (using about 50% brake and 60-70% throttle)
then letting off the accel. when entering the turn on the inside then slowly rolling on the throttle when exiting the turn (40-50% throttle)?

Do you have your ABS on or off? Where is your brake bias set? It sounds to me like you’re downshifting too early and locking the rears up; turn down the deceleration setting on your rear differential and downshift a little later and that should keep you pointed straight. As for your other question, if you’re letting off completely, the weight transfer taking place will unload the rear, and be enough to break you loose; again, turning down the deceleration on your rear differential will help with this as well.

Thanks for the reply guys.

@harley092 I’m not sure exactly what i’m doing as I’ve tried a couple of things, including letting of the accelerator and completely braking before the turn etc.
ABS is on and most times i’ve used assisted braking.
my question is what should I be doing?

@onetenoctane Yes ABS is on and most times i’ve used assisted braking. Where do I check the break bias and what should it be set to (i’ll try to find that out)?
When do I downshift, halfway through the straight, 80/90% into the straight?
When do I let loose completely, halfway through the straight, 80/90% into the straight?

Thanks again

In my experiences, assisted braking does nothing but screw you up. I would at least turn that off. That has the game decide when to brake and sometimes that’s more or at a different time than you want or need to. I’d say the more assists you can turn off, the more control you will have. Just start of with the lower classes to get used to it. Whatever ends up working for you, that’s what matters.

This is a very general statement but should cover the basics.

When coming up for a corner be on the outside of the track. Brake as hard as you can without locking up the wheels (shouldn’t be an issue with ABS, but I haven’t used that in so long I can’t remember how it is simulated in the game :-/) on the straight. Do not try to steer, keep the car straight. Your braking needs to be done on the straight otherwise you will lose control. Just before turning in you should gear down to the required gear. Come off the brakes and turn in to the corner aiming for the apex. You shouldn’t need to accelerate towards the apex. Remember the apex is the slowest point of a turn. After hitting the apex you should be gradually increasing power and moving out onto the outside of the next straight assuming it is a long enough straight.

Like I said earlier this is a very generic statement on what to do. The basics are in there. Practice and eventually you will get it. Once you are confident doing that move on to learning how to ease off the brake and steering in towards the apex. If done correctly you should be able to brake later still and get faster lap times. After getting the basics you should really look at the track layout. I said go to the outside of the track before turning in and aim to be there after the corner but that isn’t a 100% true. There is working out the best racing line, you may have a corner immediately after another corner so need to think carefully about where you want the car to be to hit both corners.

Also, every car is different so braking points will differ.

Practice practice makes perfect… Plan and simple…

Thanks a lot guys.

Will Driver C you’re the Man, thankssss a lottt for your detailed tips, they helped instantly.

I kept ABS on as usual and kept trying the same track and different cars and felt comfortable with the ones with good handling and breaking…long story short I made top 3% of the Yas Marina South Track!!

Thanks to your tips Sir.

I also found at that the more laps i did, the more i knew the track and I didn’t need to use the map anymore. Hopefully soon enough with a lot of practice I won’t be needing some assists any longer and I get much better at the game with better lap times.

Thanks again Guys.

p.s. realllllyy loving Forza 6 !!!
