Braking line hard to see

I like to know where other players and ai are turning and braking, thank you. :+1:

You don’t just… get a feel for it after a while?

The main thing for me is getting used to the capabilities of a car… how fast it can brake, how well it can turn in, what kind of grip it has… and this doesn’t take that long.

After that, I can apply my knowledge of my car’s limits to the track at hand. The tighter the turn, the more I need to brake, and the farther in advance I start braking.

Similarly, racing lines through corners become second nature after a while. There’s only so many permutations to ‘left bend’ or ‘right bend’.

It just comes down to player preference really. Personally I really like using driving and break lines even if I know all corners off by heart which in many cases I do. Again it’s just a guide and not something I strictly follow. I don’t believe I personally would drive aswell as I do without these guides. But again it’s all down to player preference.

I just find it obtrusive on top of the issue of not needing it. It’s so ‘video gamey’. If possible I just like to see the environment, the cars, and minimal HUD in racing games.

Right now I have driver names turned on, only because that’s the only way to also see the little camera icon showing me which cars I need to photo for Horizon Promo. Once I photo all the cars in FH games, I turn driver names off. Let’s me focus on the feel of the driving.

Exactly, each to their own. It sounds like your preference is to drive in a realistic environment. Whereas for me I don’t care where I’m driving or what I’m driving or what sound my car makes, all I care about is competing against other players. I enjoy the unpredictability of other players and guides like driving breaking/lines allow me to adjust should I get into a sticky situation. They also allow me to focus more on what’s going on around me as I’m constantly looking around and behind.

I do get a feel. But people brake unpredictably and this helps me figure out what they might look to do.

I look at the road and I use the white marking and apexes like I learmed to at Laguna Seca on Gran Turismo before they were a big thing.

This is the most videogamey car game that tries to be immersive that you can play. As realistic as you make this cartoon game, as seriously as you take it the dude behind or infront of you is probably wearing a disco chicken suit. :+1:

The only person I flex to by turning it off is myself.

Same here. I’ve never used the driving line or player tags, etc. either, not at all bc I’m that good , but just for the realism factor. I do use the driving line in F1, given the speeds & complexity needed to execute some of the turns properly & don’t find it too obtrusive.
I agree it’s all just player preference & what you’re comfortable with.

There is a parable from history about: “you can’t go straight by always looking behind you”.

I get a feel for how much I need to brake relative to what the line says. I’m not good at learning the routes in Horizon, so instead I see what a car is capable of, and judge based on that. Many cars can brake later than the game will suggest, and I can guess where I should be braking based on that. There’s also places where the game will suggest braking when at most I need to release the throttle slightly. I adjust quickly in most cars.

I think they should put brake hint on the dashboard/UI instead of a line on the ground.
(I remember in old GT it show the next corner gear and it flash red?)
And maybe Anna co-driver lol.

I wish they change brake guide into marker instead of a line.
People in mp often push other from side because they dont know how to pass a same section with a different line.
It is important when racing with people.

I also think the brake line is little bit unfair in online night/bad weather race because it is basically a night vision.

Exactly. In the end, following the racing and braking lines can hold you back. With certain cars, you can brake much later.

AND the racing line is not the BEST line. It’s a suggested clean line. But in actual races, you can cut corners closer than the line will suggest. And sometimes you can approach a corner much farther to the outside than the line suggests, allowing you to cut a smoother line through the corner to maintain speed.

The assist lines are fine for beginners but they will definitely hold you back in the end.

Driving/breaking lines are not like TC/SC where enabling them limits how you can control your car. Nor do they prevent you from learning a track and knowing which lines to take. They are as I said merely a guide and not something you literally drive on or break to.

I’m well aware. I’ve seen what they’re like since they’re usually on be default when you start FH games.

I’m just saying that trying to stick to them can hold you back. If you’re not sticking to them… great.

And perhaps some can eventually turn them off when they realize they are no longer sticking to them at all. Or not. Personal preference and all that.

And I do take different lines, and I use the game’s line as nothing more than suggestion of when it thinks I should brake. I don’t follow it as it says.
