I know ‘base tunes’ are the accepted method, but try an experiment if you don’t mind. Set your springs based on your weight distribution, half or double, depending on feel or type of racing you’re doing. For example: a 58/42 will be 580/420, 290/210, or 1060/840. If you soften the rear, your ar bars should be even, and you just set them by what type of racing you’re doing, because 30 something ar bars isn’t good for any offroad applications if you do want to add to the front or rear, you find your actual difference between 58 and 42, 58 divided by 42 is 1.38. Once you set any number, you divide or multiply by 1.38 and you get your other number. I set my damp even with my springs. A 58/42 gets 5.8 and 4.2, 60/40 gets 6 and 4, you can set damp however and wherever you want, but it’ll always be 1.38 apart for a 58/42, or 1.5 for a 60/40. I always set them even with the springs though. Like the escort barn find has 10 percent fw, but the spring scale doesn’t go to 600 for rally springs, so the springs end up at 300/200. The damp didn’t feel right at 6 and 4, but 3 and 2 ended up being perfect. I know it sounds low, but it only weighs 2323 lbs. I’m not saying my way is right and finding a base center isn’t. I’m saying my way is easier, works better imo, and gives you much more flexibility. They key is finding that 1.38 number. I’ve also experimented with setting the springs at 10 pct your total weight. It felt very, very balanced, but l didn’t like coming up with odd numbers on my damp. Sometimes you end up with something like 5.354, and l don’t like rounding numbers with damp. I hope l didn’t type all this for nothing. Give it a try, please. Perfection isn’t hiding right in the center of the scales. It’s just a range, and as long as you stay the correct distance apart, it’s all about preference and the racing you’ll be doing. That whole max plus min times your weight formula, then you still adjust from there. It’s overcomplicated and a huge waste of time. You can set your springs specifically for you, then get your 1.38, 1.5, 1.17 multiply or divide your springs by that, and you’re good. No saving base tunes after a long math session and a pen, paper and calculater. 580, 420. 5.8, 4.2. My preference is even ar bars, that l set at 10 for dirt, and 20 for road. I can tune 3 cars before you get your base tune, and you still adjust from the base. I can’t believe the community accepts this as the ‘way it’s done’ Trust me. You’ll love it. And you’ll never set another base tune
